'Did we go too far?' Charlie asked. 'Too far?' cried Mr Wonka. 'Of course we went too far! We've gone into orbit!' WHOOSH! Inside the Great Glass Elevator, Willy Wonka, Charlie Bucket and his family are cruising a thousand feet above the chocolate factory. They can see the whole world below them, but they're not alone. The American Space Hotel has also just launched. Lurking inside are the Vermicious Knids - the most brutal beasts in the universe! Can Charlie and Willy Wonka stop them from destroying everything? The text in this edition of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator was updated in 2022 for young independent readers. Review: Nostalgic - This is a wild ride from start to finish. Reading this book is like jumping back into childhood, where everything is bright, bold, and a bit bonkers. The new colour edition brings a whole new level of excitement to Roald Dahl's classic story. The illustrations pop right off the page, making the wacky adventures of Charlie and Mr. Wonka even more immersive. If you loved the original, this version adds a fresh layer of magic. Plus, it's a hit with the kids – mine couldn't put it down! A perfect pick for family story time or for any adult wanting a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Okay Sequel, Featuring Space Aliens and Youth Potions
I've just read this out loud to my six-year-old daughter, and though it's not as good as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", she enjoyed it and laughed at the jokes. The story's in two parts. The first half deals with the Glass Elevator shooting off the Earth into space, and Mr Wonka saving a new American space hotel from being attacked by man-eating aliens. This leads to lots of radioed messages to the President of the United States, and a slew of jokes about the leaders of other nations, in a way that's a wee bit politically incorrect today. One of the aliens sustains a large bruise on its bottom in the attack. The Glass Elevator then returns to Earth and crashes back through the roof of the Chocolate Factory. Mr Wonka wants Charlie's aged grandparents to get out of their bed and help Charlie run the factory, but they excuse themselves because they are so old. Mr Wonka gives them some pills he's invented to make them young, and when they take too much, he uses another drug to make them old again. This part really did capture my imagination when I was a child reading it, but it does utilise negative numbers in its arithmetic, which most junior school children won't have learnt yet - I now have to sit down with my daughter and a number line chart, and explain it to her, because she's asking so many questions on the subject. It's a fun, lively read, but it's only still being read because it's the sequel to such a classic book. Age 8+ years, if they're reading it themselves.

Audio book heaven
Clearly I am in no position to review this - but on behalf of my 6 year old (and me 40 years ago) everyone knows that this is a superb book. the reason for reviewing, however, is that I got it as a kindle, and with the audio book option - wonderfully read. My son sat on a long journey listening intently to it for at least 2 hours. And the only sound were the occasional peals of giggles at a particularly funny bit.

The only misstep in Dahl's corpus of children's books
The Roald Dahl stories still speak to adult kids like me. However, I've noted that this sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the only weak link in his otherwise excellent corpus of children's books. I will just offer my brief impressions of this book. This story is made up of two halves. The first half focuses on the journey back to the factory. The Elevator links up with a space hotel and Mr Wonka and the Buckets are chased by Vermicious Knids. Once they are back at the factory the story changes gear to talk about the abuses of Wonkavite by the grandparents. The Elevator links both halves of the book because it is used for all the journeys that Charlie makes. However this does not disguise the fact that this book has two distinct halves that do not cohere together. Given Dahl's constant striving for excellence and perfection in his other stories, the writing style is laboured here and lacks freshness. Also, the jokes come off as lame and feeble. Only Willy Wonka holds the book together. As such, this book is not quite as compelling and coherent as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Muito boa história
Uma continuação da história da fantastica fábrica de chocolates que é bastante interessante e divertida. Com ela você conhece melhor os pais e avós do Charlie. De fato, é uma história muito criativa.
