What are the dimensions?

When closed, it is approximately 7 1/8" x 4". When open, there is about a one-centimeter wide size border that goes all around the edge that is approximately 1/4" deep.

Is the case plastic or cardboard?

It's hard to tell for sure, and the outer casing is certainly a plastic. But when you tap on the portion that holds the magnet, it sounds like plastic too.

What are the usable measurements for the inside of the palette?

Mine is 6-1/4" x 3-1/4" on the interior. I use it for rectangular as well as square and round shadows. I do not have mine completely filled, and everything stays in place very well. Have had it for more than a year.
