Thomas Balinger Irish Songs for tin whistle In this book you’ll find some of the most beautiful Irish melodies for tin whistle in D. These songs stem from a long and rich musical tradition meaning there are quite a few variants of both lyrics and melodies. All songs have been arranged for the beginning to intermediate player. To facilitate playing I added tin whistle tablature to the standard notation. This handy form of graphical notation shows you exactly how to play every note–reading music not required. Chord symbols are added to all songs so you can play them together with others. You’ll find the chord diagrams for guitar where you need them–right next to each song. In the appendix, there’s a fingering chart for tin whistle as well as the basic guitar chords and a selection of picking and strumming patterns. Songs 1. A bunch of thyme 2. All for me grog 3. Brilliant for beginners
This book is brilliant especially for a beginner. None of them is too difficult and being written in music score plus tabs and with chords for guitar. You can be accompanied by guitar.

For beginners and intermediate players
For beginners and intermediate players who have time and patience then this book does the job. Well laid out and intuitive. Can be a bit advanced for absolute novices though.

Better than most other books I've bought.
An excellent book for tin whistle enthusiasts. A great selection of songs with all lyrics. Also all guitar chords and clear and precise whistle tablature. Highly recommended for beginners and more seasoned players alike.

Poorly printed by Amazon
The text on page 95, which is supposed to be Molly Malone (a.k.a. Cockles and Mussels) is a copy of text from page 93, "Poor Paddy works on the railway." Apparently, print-on-demand issue. Still, the notes/tabs are there, and even chord diagrams are from the right song, so I can live with it.

Well done. Familiar songs.
Often times these tin whistle song books have many songs I'm not familiar with. I expect that, then I listen and learn the ones I didn't know. That's good because it increases the lexicon of my song vocabulary of this tradition. THIS book had more titles I recognized by name than the other books I've seen. It's well laid out. The score is one the left page and lyrics (and even chord charts if you need them) on the right. I agree with other reviews that a spiral binding would've been an improvement--but not necessary. It's a larger sized folio and any decent music stand could hold it open. They've even printed the whistle TAB right in the score line with the lyrics. For this price you can't go wrong. Music and song books don't have the same necessity of design standard that other publications follow. Aside from the possible addition of a spiral binding this is how they should all be done, and for this price it's a great deal. ~JSV
