great battery at a bargain price, Made a difference to my car performance.

Replaced worn-out battery in VW Golf mark 6, (2013 reg). VW dealer cost is around £400, and I think they will put the smaller-power version of this battery in, (so I could have bought that on here, and saved even more money). I checked the max power-draw, (Amps), and storage capacity, (Ampere-hours), and this battery is the one they fit to 1.6l and above Golfs, whereas ours is 1.4, and teh engine is not so heavy to turn over, so doesn't need such a large battery. So far as I know, the same starter motor is used across the range, and so I was not worried getting the slightly higher power, (Don't take my word for that though - make sure you check your own one). It was only about £10 more expensive for this one, but the stop-start activates more crisply than ever it did before, and really does make the car feel like it was when it was new. I've noticed no heating, or other problems, and am really happy. I've rated it 5 stars for value-for-money, as the VW one was so much more. Even at Halfords, this same battery is double that price, and at the local auto-store it was the same double-price. I've rated 5 stars for longevity - but tbh we've only had it for a couple of weeks, so can't really comment. The battery it replaced was the same brand, (lower power), and that lasted 7/8 years or so from new, so I am confident giving this one 5 stars, because the original one was Exide brand, also. Fitting it took around 1 minute. You need only a 10mm socket for the battery terminals, and a 13mm socket for the mounting bolt, (just 1 bolt clamps it on). Be careful with the battery leads, and make sure you remove the positive first, (and fit that last when re-fitting). Remember that the engine, and most other metal components you could spark on, is linked to the negative, and with any loose petrol or oil in the engine bay there will be a huge and unacceptable risk, (make sure you wipe any completely, (and I mean completely), away before fiddling with batteries), because there is a very real fire-hazard if you start sparking around near petrol; you might save a few pounds on a battery, and lose your whole car, (and even be injured or hurt someone else).

Die Autobatterie kam in sehr guter Gefahrstoffverpackung, war passgenau und einbaufertig vorgeladen. Sie ersetzt die zweite "Varta 61 Ah" im Golf Variant, die jeweils beide 6 Jahre Lebensdauer erreicht haben. Die Excide hat jetzt 64 Ah und einen angegebenen Kaltstartstrom von 640 Ampere, die Varta hatte nur 540 Ampere. Der alte Akku war im Kurzstreckenbetrieb und nach einer Woche Standzeit entladen durch die ständige Innenraumüberwachung und Funkfernbedienungs- Bereitschaft. Hoffentlich lädt sich die "Excide 64 Ah" im Kurzstreckenbetrieb in Rentnerhand immer wieder schnell auf! Die gute Verpackung diente auch noch zum sicheren Transport der Altbatterie zur kostenlosen Entsorgung im Wertstoffhof. Ergänzung April 2020: Leider hat die Autobatterie kein 4Jahre Lebensdauer erreicht. Das lag aber NICHT an der Excide, sondern an mehreren Tiefentladungen. Diese wurden durch ein fehlerhaftes Plus-Ladekabel von der Lichtmaschine zum Akku verursacht. Vom erzeugten Strom kam an der Autobatterie kaum etwas an. Der Anschluss im Plus-Verteiler, der oben auf dem Akku sitzt, war weggeschmort! Ein Fehler, der bei Golf, Polo, Seat, Audi und Skoda der Baujahre bis 2005 wohl mehrfach auftrat. Die Werkstatt fand nichts, der Ruhestrom am Auto war ja auch okay. Bei YT taucht das Problem öfters beschrieben auf, zum Glück gab es nur Schmoren der Isolierung, keinen Brand im Motorraum. Nun wieder die gleiche Batterie gekauft und eingebaut, seit der Montage von einem neuen Kabelschuh aus dem Industriebereich (gecrimpt und verlötet!) ans Pluskabel gab es keine Startprobleme mehr. Ergänzung Januar 2023: Nach mehreren Tagen Kälte unter 0Grad C sank die Spannung unter 11,5 Volt ab. Kein Kaltstart mehr möglich beim Motoröl 10W40. Batterie wurde nun im Golf durch eine Varta ersetzt! Ergänzung 8/2024: Die mit Erhaltungsladung 1/2023 abgestellte Excide-Batterie von 2020 hat nun ihr zweites Leben in einem VW Polo 1,4l 16V 75PS angetreten. Die darin eingebaute, genau baugleiche Excide-Batterie wurde Anfang 2015 eingebaut, hat also über 9 Jahre gehalten! Ergänzung 12/2025 Die Varta D15 kann die Spannung nicht mehr halten. Nach 2-3 Tagen sinkt diese unter 12V, bei 0°C reicht es nicht mehr zum Motorstart. Nun habe ich meine Excide von 2020 zurück, die zuverlässig im Polo ihr Gastspiel gegeben hat. Dort ist nun auch eine gleiche von Excide verbaut. Sollte die Varta nach knapp 3 Jahren bereits defekt sein?
