9702A Coffee Grinder (Matte Black)

I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend because he had been using a small, handheld grinder, and it was a process and whole workout when we wanted to make just 2 cups of coffee.We couldn’t be more thrilled with this grinder! The knob indicates the amount of cups you’re making, and there is a sliding switch that allows you to control the coarseness. Simply adjust the settings to your preference, press the start button and walk away. The grinder stops automatically with the perfect amount of coffee/cup ratio ground. You pull out the catch and dump it directly into whatever maker you’re using. It’s also a lot quieter than I assumed! It doesn’t have that nerve-grating, screech type of tone when grinding.The only design flaw is that the catch-can, when in place without the lid, looks like it is covered; so, it’s easy to turn on without realizing that coffee grounds are going to start spewing everywhere if you forgot to put on the lid.

So first off I would totally buy this again as a drip coffee drinker. I don't know how well it would work on espresso grind but it seems very fine.Pros - easy to clean, easy to use, nice hoper size for beans, reasonable grind containerCons - oily beans suck, it builds up static very quicklyHow to use -So there are a couple of things to do on this.One if you have oily beans you need to push the beans down or jiggle the machine, dry beans feed in just fine.Two I highly recommend a fine mist spray bottle, spray the top of the grounds container and inside the container... If you do not do this and use it daily you will start having coffe grounds flying all over the place.Those being said it is working great. I use it 2 times a day on the 12 cup setting and a very corse grind and clean it... Every 3 ish months. Costco beans are super oily and I haven't figured out a way to get them to feed in, I even removed the guard in the hoper. But cheapy Amazon beans are dry and work great.

After a month of daily use I am quite pleased with this coffee grinder, which offered a good compromise between what I wanted and what I could afford. It produces a better cup of coffee than my faithful old blade grinder ever did and is certainly preferable to what comes preground in bags. I like its little blue "on" light and its timed grinding; BTW letting the ground coffee sit in the hopper for a minute dissipates any static.Overall it's a decent entry-level burr grinder: not particularly loud, not especially messy, and just a rinse to clean (although since the hard plastic hopper is clear and the grinder's body is black, it can be difficult to see if you've taken it off the drainer and put it back in, which I hadn't. Twice.) I have yet to clean the burrs or other interior parts so I can't comment on that.However, although it works well in my pour over Clever Dripper, I've had to adjust the grind settings several times - simply done by moving a front pin - from Coarse to ultimately one click finer than Medium. This leads me to think that the Fine setting wouldn't produce the powder grind required for Turkish coffee and might not be fine enough to satisfy espresso machine users.

I had high hopes for this coffee grinder based on the good reviews, but after two uses it stopped working. Honestly, this is what i'd expect from a $12 coffee grinder from Dollar General. It's junk.Even before it stopped working, the design was poor. If it didn't fail, I'd probably still give it a 3 star rating because the way the hopper is designed, you have to sit with the the grinder while its grinding and constantly shake it for the beans to fall into the hopper. Otherwise, it will grind some beans, but leave a gap of air between the grinder and the beans in the hopper, so you're constantly shaking the grinder so the beans continue to fall.After the 2nd use, it completely stopped griding beans. The baldes still spin, but its so impacted with coffee grains that it won't grind any new beans. It now grinds until it smokes then it shuts down. At this point it either needs to be disassembled to be cleaned or perhaps I can take it out the garage and blow it out with high power compressed air. Either way, I don't expect to do that after every two uses, especially with 18" of snow and 15 degree weather like when it stoped workin last week.IF you buy it, and your blades don't bind up from coffee grains, it's still not a great grinder because of the hopper design. Definitely not the quality or design I'd expect for the price. If yours does stop grinding, like mine, after 2 uses, then clearly it's not worth buying at all.Personally, I'd suggest another model. I'll be spending more on something better and this one will most likely wind up in the dumpster

Edit: It's been a year and still working all day like it was new. Still would give it 5 ***** This dry, smokey summer I finally experienced summer days that resulted in static conditions in the powder container. I ran a couple of experiments and the top 2 are: 2) after grinding I ran water over the bottom OUTSIDE of the ground collecting container (please NOT the machine. Never run water over the machine). Then a couple of taps and no static. My water is high mental so better water may produce other results. 1) use a stainless still container. No static. This worked better than the container that came with the Burr so now I am using a stainless steel measuring cup and holding it to catch the grind.2022 original review: My blade grinder luckily died just before Black Friday. I opted to take a chance on this other option of grinding, the Burr grinder. After research I picked conical and stainless steel. I feel lucky I found and bought this brand! The grind amount is spot on. I enjoyed exploring the options between course - powder grinds to pick the perfect grind. After finding that setting every pot is perfect.I ground 5 different settings for a friend of mine who was thinking about upgrading to a Burr grinder. The machine grounded each perfectly without a rest.The directions say to 'clean after every use.' I clean every weekend. I use the grinder 7-10 times/ week. The little machine seems happy with this. If the hopper holds beans for several grinds, why would I need to clean after every grind?The hopper does not hold a bag of coffee. For us consumers in apartments/ small kitchens this is PERFECT. There are larger (more $$$$) machines that hold full bags of coffee. If you need an excellent machine with a small footprint this is the one.

I purchased this grinder based on other reviews, but also because it appeared that it’s design and appearance was a copy of other more expensive and well-known branded grinders. It appears I guessed right. This grinder produces consistent and uniform grounds and is much less noisy and messy than others I’ve owned. Let’s face it. Some grounds will escape or get stuck in the machine. But this was does a great job of containing them.One thing that worried me when I first used it. When I turned it on, the initial surge popped the electrical breaker. But apparently it was just a matter of breaking in the motor and after a few more pops, this problem has resolved itself. I will update this review if the problem recurs.I notice that some of this grinder’s reviews discuss the timer/per cup dial settings. I ignore that and premeasure and grind enough beans for each cup. So not an issue for me.All in all, I think this burr grinder is a Best Buy. Though the price has inched up a bit, it is still a good $30-40 less than other comparable burr grinders.

Worked fine for about 2 years, but just crapped out out of nowhere and won't even turn on. It ground fine for most of the time I've had it, although it's not very consistent on grind size based on the setting, but did well enough for the price. It is also very loud. I think it's a decent budget option, but you should see it as semi-disposable.

I like this coffee grinder a lot. Some may find it messy, which it is, but I find it therapeutic. I like my coffee strong so I scoop four serving spoons of Starbucks French Roast into the Grinder. I press the button and let it run for about 10 seconds. While this is going on I tip the machine from side to side settling the beans into grinder, I give it a whack or two then turn off the machine so as not to overheat. I repeat this about 3 times until you hear the grinding process is complete. Once this is done I shake and whack it again to settle coffee into hopper. I pull out the hopper, pull of the lid and whack it in the filter to knock off the coffee. There will be enough coffee to fill the filter. This too will take a few more whacks to get the remaining coffee into the filter. I have the grind setting right in the middle. This may sound like a lot of bother, but the coffee tastes great!
