(3:01) Angels with filthy souls (2:04) Blooper reel (2:02) Deleted scenes / alternate takes Now and forever a favourite among kids, this 1990 comedy written by John Hughes ( The Breakfast Club ) and directed by Chris Columbus ( Mrs. Doubtfire ) ushered Macaulay Culkin onto the screen as a troubled 8-year-old who doesn't comfortably mesh with his large family. He's forced to grow a little after being accidentally left behind when his folks and siblings fly off to Paris. A good-looking boy, Culkin lights up the screen during several funny sequences, the most famous of which finds him screaming for joy when he realises he's unsupervised in his own house. A bit wooden with dialogue, the then-little star's voice could grate on the nerves (especially in long, wise-child passages of pure bromide), but he unquestionably carries Home Alone . Billie Bird and John Candy show up as two of the interesting strangers Culkin's character meets. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are entertainingly cartoonish as thieves, but the ensuing violence once the little hero decides to keep them out of his house is over-the-top. -- Tom Keogh Review: One kid and burglars getting legally murdered in the most festive way possible. - Forget subtlety—Home Alone is peak holiday magic: one kid, a mansion, and enough booby traps to make burglars rethink life choices. Funny, ridiculous, and somehow heartwarming, it’s the only movie that makes you laugh while silently cheering for minor electrocution. Truly the best Christmas movie… sorry, Santa. 🎄🪤💥 Review: A classic for a reason - Even though this is shown every year at Christmas on some random channel I always seem to miss it. So I decided to get it since I've not seen it for a few years. It's still a great film. A special note must be made on the transfer of the 4K version. It's excellent. Normally 80's to early 90's transfers on 4k are hit and miss. We've had some good ones over the years and a few disappointing ones and this is certainly one of the great ones. The colours are fantastic and the detail and clarity of the image (while retaining it filmic look) is also fantastic. I really can't imagine this film ever looking better than it does here. If you love this film you owe it yourself to get the 4K Blu-ray.
