Q: inside diameter of the inner ring which fits over the light fitting?

The inside diameter of the smaller, inner ring is 41mm, without a reducer fitted. This fits the larger light fitting of my standard lamp

Q: Can I use a different sized top ring eg from a 20cm kit to bottom ring eg from a 25cm kit, to make a cone shape, not a drum shape?

It could be done but you would have to cut a crescent shape rather than a rectangle out of the stiffened lining and I'm not sure that even the larger of the two kits would contain enough of the stiffened material to accommodate a crescent shape. You could try making a pattern out of paper before you attempted to cut the provided backing. Hope this makes sense.

Q: how much fabric do i need?

The amount of fabric depends on the size of the kit. For the 25cm one you need a covering 82cms x 25.5cms. Regards Linda
