Simple straightforward timer that works!
A nice simple kitchen timer with a good loud, long enough, bell that you can hear from a distance. Nicely designed with stainless steel that will clean and it sits securely on the surface and is heavy enough that it won't get easily knocked off a table, worktop etc . Just what I needed.

Well made, weighty, easy to use, loud
Bought this for my mam who has arthritis in her hands. She'd had a cheap plasticky effort before but because it was light and the twist key was hard to grip, she dropped it and it smashed to pieces. She loves this new Salter one. The turn key is easy for her to grip, not needing lots of force. The flat base and stainless steel casing give it enough weight to sit on a bench and not easily be knocked off or over. What she likes most is that the ring is LOUD - she says that there is no chance of missing it. I think it is a quality looking but wonderfully simple bit of kitchen kit, good enough looking that you won't want to hide it away.

Stopped working completely, very unreliable before
I bought this one year ago as my timer of 10 years (a reliable tomato shaped Heinz one) was a bit of an eyesore. I have been disappointed with this one right from the start. I decided to go for Salter as they are a good brand…but this has not translated over into a good product sadly. I made sure to use this correctly (wind to 1 hour mark then back to whatever time you want to set every single time you use it -this is important when using a mechanical timer) so I do not think that is what has caused it to not work. The problem with it is mainly that it sticks/stops ticking before it is done. This means that I can not rely on it. This only used to happen occasionally but then happened more and more frequently and now, when I wind it up it doesn’t tick/move at all. The bell still works. I am really disappointed. My rubbish (ugly!) free Heinz one worked with no problems for over 10 years. It was still working when I replaced it with this one…I will now try another brand and will think twice about purchasing salter products in future.

Might be good -don't know yet
Made by Salter, this timer has a 2 year warranty. I bought the Salter as I've already gone through 2 IXIGER mechanical timers. I've only just received it and had to stick the metal centre piece back on. It came off as I removed the plastic face guard before use! However, so far it's been used 3 times and nothing else has gone wrong. Compared to LCD type timers which require batteries, this is fabulously easy to use. Just turn the face and it starts. Wonderful. The digital ThermoPro 99-Hour Kitchen Timer, for example requires multiple screen jabs and body rotation. Also, the time setting can't be changed once the timing starts!! That's dead easy with a mechanical timer.

Timer sticks.
Sometimes the timer does not start when set and seems to stick. Another product poorly made in China. Salter used to be a good quality make but it seems no longer.

Six years of satisfaction
I am about to replace our salter timer which amazon has just shown me was purchased in 2019. and I can say it has done the job excellently. I am therefore hoping that the new Salter model which we replace it with will do the job equally well for the next six years.

Excellent product
Excellent product. Timer works well and is loud and clear. Rubberised base keeps it firmly in place on a work surface.

Poorly designed, flimsily constructed.
The tick is really annoyingly loud - much louder than most old-fashioned alarm-clocks. It’s a bit like sitting next to Big Ben. So you wouldn’t want to have this in the room with you whilst in use. But you would *have* to have it in the room with you, because when the bell finally sounds it is, ironically enough, whisperingly quiet. Just to add to the madness, there is no way to turn the bell off when it rings. I checked this in the instructions just to be sure - and it’s true: you just have to stand there, waiting for damn thing to run down, which takes about 10 seconds of really annoying, whispery ringing. I bought this particular timer because of Salter’s good reputation. They haven’t upheld that reputation with this bit of kit. It looks smart in the photo but is, I’m sorry to say, cheaply-made and poorly-designed tat in real life. I gave it one star for the fact that it is just about usable. And one star for looking pretty. But it’s going straight to Oxfam.

I purchased the Salter Mechanical Stainless Steel timer in September, 2020. The ringer wasn't as loud as I would have wanted, but I liked the style of the timer. It matched all my stainless steel appliances. Unfortunately, the ringer didn't last for more than 7 months. The timer is definitely not worth the money spent. It cost $13.18 and shipping was $12.87 Amazon UK. Don't waste your money on this product. It's all looks and no substance!
