Great boots but watch out for the size. They run large.
This is the 2nd set of Red Wings I've ever purchased. Just a heads up, the reviews are true. These shoes run large. Most people go down 1 size but if you wear a 9.5, it's best to size down to an 8. Yes..........1.5 sizes down. Don't ask me why because I really don't know. I had spent a good hour at a Red Wing store getting fitted and trying on various sizes. Size 8 if you normally wear a 9.5. Thank you Pierelli Global Brands for sending me the boots quickly and at a very good price. Now about the boots........it will suck the first 2-4 weeks of wearing them. When new, the leather is stiff and quite unforgiving. Especially if you are like me where I had to size down 1.5, it starts off pretty tight. However, be patient with them. Put on a layer of boot oil to help break them in, wear some thick socks, and nurture it a bit. The insole will start to conform to your feet and the leather will stretch and soften. How quickly it breaks in will depend on how often you wear them but I notice a change after wearing them everyday for about two weeks. Once that happens, these things will be your best friend. The shoes will feel like they were custom molded to your feet. And the beauty is that they get more comfortable the more you wear it. I had literally hiked 3 miles in my old pair of 9111 Classic Round models without a problem. My best advice is to try them on first! Either at a Redwing store, or somewhere that carries Redwing shoes with a knowledgeable salesman. Just remember the leather will stretch so make sure they fit snug brand new. Specifics about this model, they are very stylish and versatile. You can wear them with some dark jeans for a night out, or it can work with faded jeans for casual, or whatever. You can even wear these out to work all day, come home, polish it up and put them back on for a date. It's very very versatile! I purchased the black leather model and I almost don't want to use them because it might seem a little too formal. It also looks delicate which makes me not want to wear it too much to scuff up. Don't get me wrong, they are by no means delicate. These babies can take a beating and then some. But it just looks so clean when new I just want to baby them. Given another 6 months, I'll probably be living in these things. Another thing to keep in mind about the Iron Rangers is that they have no traction in the snow. A picture of sole will tell you everything. It does not have any lugs/treads at the bottom which keeps it from getting decent traction on the ground. They are made to be "work boots" but I wonder sometimes because of the sole. Either way, just make sure you be careful when the weather acts up. Lastly, make sure you get yourself some type of boot oil or polish to treat it every month. These things are made of thick leather which will last forever if periodically cared for. Most dirt and debris can be solved with a wet cloth and a brush, but if you live in a city where there is constant exposure to road salt, oils, and chemicals, its best to oil them up regularly. Overall, these things are fantastic! I would recommend these to anyone looking for a stylish boot that will last for years. If you are looking for something comfortable immediately out of the box, then they might not be for you. But otherwise, I'll gladly recommend them. They are pretty pricey. That is about all the advice I can give that hasn't been said already on other reviews. Hope this helps.

Top notch
I was reluctant to invest in these boots for a few reasons. (1) I had tried red wing's moc toe 3 times before to no avail whatsoever- I had tried 3 sizes and still had far too much heel slippage. (2) Others' reviews told tales of treacherous break-in periods, and I wasn't quite sure if I was up for that. (3) They're pretty darn pricey. COLOR (Copper rough & tough on foot and on left in pictures) I went ahead and purchased 2 colors (harness and rough & tough) because I couldn't tell which I liked better on my computer screen. Both arrived 2 days later. I tried both on and knew immediately which ones I'd be keeping. While the Harness have a more clean cut and polished look, the hide used for the uppers is WAY stiffer out of the box. I have no idea why that is, because redwing clearly states that all of their heritage boots are made of the same hide material and just tanned differently in-house. After wearing them for a full day, I have to say that I do not agree with others' reviews saying that break in has to be painful- at least not in the copper rough and tough color. I could see how the harness color could be a bit harder to break in. But, honestly, these were a joy to wear right out of the box for me, personally. I also think that the copper rough and tough color will have a better looking petina with time. Please note that I did apply Chelsea Leather Food to my boots just before snapping these photos, so the coloration is a bit darker than they were when I first got them. SIZING I went with a 9.5 knowing that that was the closest I'd gotten to a good fit in the RW moc. The fit was spot on. I typically wear a 10-11 depending on the brand. <10 in Cole Haan> <11 in Nike> <10.5 in adidas> <11 in Asics> <11 in Brooks>. So, this was about a full size down from my average shoe size. The heel cup does a phenominal job of keeping my heels from slipping and I have a comfortable amount of wiggle room in the toe box. BUILD These things are tough. I have NEVER seen a shoe so well constructed in my life. Everything about it says "I'm built to last." The leather is the nicest leather I've ever seen used on a workboot. It's strong, sturdy, and just pliable enough to mold to your foot perfectly with time. Whether you're looking for a high quality pair of boots to wear on the job or a tribute to traditional American craftsmanship to wear with jeans on the weekend, look no further. Trust me, I did my research (probably too much) before deciding to go with these. If you can find a store near you to try them on before ordering, I strongly recommend you do that. If you're not able to, then just go into this knowing that you might have to exchange them a few times before you find the right size. And remember not to get discouraged if you can't get these particular boots to work for you size-wise. Try out some of Red Wing's other boots- I've obviously found all of them to have a unique fit. Hope this helped! All the best.

From Clarke's to Red Wings
I'm going to break my review into separate parts so that it's much more easy to read, and some people (like me) only care about certain parts in a review. Background: Originally, I had a pair of Clarke Desert Boots that I had worn for almost 6 years. I hadn't taken very good care of them so, while they had character, they were falling apart. I was going to just get another pair, but for years I had wanted a nice pair of Red Wings, so I decided on these. Fit: The most common question on these I've seen. I wear a 10.5 US in Nike's and an 8.5 US Wide in my now destroyed Clarke's. I had gotten a 9.5 US Wide in Iron Rangers originally, but I had slight heel slip and a little too much toe space. I exchanged them for a 9 US Wide and they fit perfectly. I no longer have heel slip, it's tight inside but to where the leather will conform to my foot, and I have just the right amount of toe space. I recommend going to an actual Red Wing store if you can to be sized. While the half size to full size down tip is pretty much true, everyone wears their shoes differently. Look and Build Quality: While looks are subjective, in my honest opinion, these look fantastic. Very minimalist looking, not really flashy, but the subtle high quality stitching and eyelet accenting makes the boot stand out. The very first time I wore these I received a compliment from a total stranger. These look good enough to wear in a semi-formal setting, or just out and about town. The build quality is also very good. Just pulling these out of the box and examining them, you get an idea of how much time and precision was put into making these. The stitching is very well done and consistent, the spacing on the cuts is precise, yada yada. Red Wing knows what they're doing. Comfort: These are going to be uncomfortable for a while, according to everyone ever. For me, it's not too bad, but I wear boots all the time, and my feet are used to being abused. If this is your first boot ever, it is going to be a bad experience until they break in. That said, any high quality leather boot is going to be like that. It just takes time for that new, hard leather to break in. Once it does, leather boots feel great, even compared to sneakers. Anything bad I can think about: The speed laces. These things are flimsy and honestly should just be eyelets instead. You'll probably crush these fiddling around with them, but you can easily bend them back in place. Not a big deal, but still. Eventually I'll have these popped out and replaced with ACTUAL eyelets. The stock laces they give you are pretty average. Most people just take them off and replace them with Redwing's Leather Laces, which I've done as well. I highly recommend you do it too.

These do run big!
Best pair of boots I have ever had! Not only do they look super good they are very comfortable, durable and they provide plenty of support. Pair these babies up with some raw denim and you're good to go! Two complaints; the laces that come with it are too short and I couldn't tie the top speed lace and they run really big!. Order one whole size smaller on the length and I ordered a pair of leather boot laces from Red Wing trimmed to size and I'm good to go! I'm sure these boots will last me 10 years as I don't wear them every day (neither should you, allow about a day for them to air out or get some shoe trees. They are built with all natural materials and will rot if they are moist for too long). If they get minor scuffs just rub some boot oil on them and they are like brand new. I can't wait for these to wear just right and look like I've had them for years. SIZING: All my other shoes are sizes 8.5-10.5 Depending on brand, I've been wearing Red Wing work boots at my job for almost 10 years and they run 8.5EE - 9D depending on if they have a liner or not. The first pair of Iron Rangers I had to return because they were too big I ordered size 8D, they pinched my foot and were too long. The pair I replaced them with are size 7.5EE and they fit perfectly. COMFORT: These shoes are made with all natural materials and will shape themselves to your foot. That means that there is a break in period and it may be a couple wears or a few weeks. I wore some thicker socks and rubbed them with boot oil and they were good to go after a couple of days. WIDTH: These boots are narrow so make sure you get the correct width it makes all the difference in the world. ARCH SUPPORT: What arch support? These boots do not have an insole like a work boot or other type of shoe (google goodyear welt). I have really high arches and this has not been a problem. I love these boots!

Nice Boots!
Very nice boots with typical QC problems. I knew I was a size 8 and they fit well. The sanding on the sole edges looked unfinished and rough. The leather welt where it meets the heel rand was not cut even. Remidied with sandpaper and a razor blade. Oh, one of the speed hooks was super sharp and I had to use a small file to keep it from shedding laces. I also added kilties and some older laces I had laying around to change the look. Overall, very satisfied for them being on sale. Would buy again!

3rd day review
Day1: Delivery Shoes delivered by amazon, got them at $242 (old nitrile sole not vibram) so I was extremely happy. The moment I opened the box I was complete wowed of how good they looked and felt. I had done my research including watching almost all IR videos on YouTube and reading all reviews here. Like everyone I went full size down. I normally wear 9.5D on nikes so got 8.5D on these but right of the box they felt extremely tight. Day 2: Oiling So even though they looked pre-oiled I grabbed the red wing mink oil and generously oiled them and let them sit for an hour. The oil did darken them a bit but not too much (see the before and after pics attached). I wore thick wool socks and walked around the house for 30 mins but it was painful so couldn’t take it anymore. They were too tight, felt like I should have gone for 8.5EE instead. Day3: Wear them to office I tried them in the morning with regular socks and was surprised that they felt much more comfortable this time so I decided to wear them to office (desk job). Now here I am, almost 3 hours later and they are comfortable enough that I don’t notice that I am wearing them. No pain no tightness but the sole does feel little hard while walking so hoping that get better. All in all I am very happy with my purchase. They look great, they scream quality and they feel durable but still i find them little pricey at their full price but for $242 I think they are a good buy. Looking forward how they feel next week, will post the updates here. Edited:**** Month 2 : Love love love Its been over 2 months since i got them and I have been wearing them to office almost everyday. They look superb and extremely comfortable now. I love how well the leather feels, keep touching them every so often while at work. I have oiled them twice by combining red wing mink oil and their heritage leather cream. It darkes the shoes for couple days but they go back to original color away after few days.

These are legitimately some of the best boots on the planet
OK, here's the thing with Iron Rangers: These are legitimately some of the best boots on the planet. They're extremely well made, extremely good looking and only get better with use. That said, there's a price to pay beyond the ~$300+ --- sizing appropriately and breaking them in. If you're considering buying a pair, I would STRONGLY encourage you to visit a Red Wing store to have them fit you professionally. These things run huge, so where I normally wear an 11.5 consistently, they told me to get an 11. That seemed to be consensus among all the blogs I read (and I read a lot prior to shelling out the money). Something I didn't run across is that they also run narrow. I have a narrow foot, so this didn't bother me but they're definitely more narrow than most of the shoes I've ever worn. Again, going to a physical location will alleviate this, even if you don't buy them there. Now, I'd also suggest reading up on care. You'll find a thousand different opinions but honestly. just take care of them. They're meant to be worn, not coddled. I don't care what anyone says, I think the Copper Rough and Tough color look better off the shelf than the Amber Harness (which EVERYONE has). I love the copper, and if you decide they're too light you can always use weatherproofing products to darken them. While we're at it, I'd highly suggest the Doc Marten Leather Balsam for just about any shoe but please be aware it could darken them slightly. I used it on these and although it does wear off slightly over time, it definitely darkens them permanently. Not that I'm complaining---they look fantastic. Next, don't freak out about the leather soles. I've been wearing mine for a good month and they're finally starting to shape to my foot. I can tell the cork sole will only get more comfortable over time. It just takes a while, but when they finally are broken in they're very, very comfortable. Mine took a good two weeks and a little discomfort, but it was worth it. I did more research that you'd believe before I decided on these, and I'm glad I did.

Great old school boot!
I looked long and hard through both Red Wings Line of Heritage boots and Wolverines 1000 mile boots. I honestly couldn't decide on either so I bought a pair of both! There was no way I wasn't going to buy Red Wings because I have owned several pairs of their work boots and a pair of the Pecos, and have loved them all. The Pecos gave me a good lesson on what a real break in is like. I thought for sure the boots were too small but the salesman reassured me after breaking in, the boots would fit like a glove, and they do! It took a bit of leather conditioner on the inside of the boot as well as the outside to relax the leather to mold comfortably around my foot. The reason I just reviewed the Pecos is because it leads me to tell you that I was expecting a stiff boot, but I am confident that conditioner inside and outside the boot, I will relax the boot around my feet correctly. I'm a small guy and wear a size seven. The smallest size is a seven, so I was unable to follow everybody else's advise, ordering a 1/2 to full size down. Also, one of my feet is a bit smaller than the other. I read some complaints how one boot fits different than the other. Chances are your feet are less perfect in size than the boot. When they arrived I put them on and could tell I was going to need to put inserts in to close any gaps between my feet and the top of the boot. I could also feel the areas that I would focus leather conditioner. The next day I put some inserts in from the drug store. It was a perfect solution to my personal size dilemma. I'll always see it as cheating, and I'll never know how they feel with out inserts, but it works good enough to get my feat against the leather which needs to happen to begin shaping the leather! So I took notice to any area that I felt discomfort. I oiled the boots with leather conditioner inside and out adding a little extra to those areas. I apply it with my fingers so I can rub it in good and reach inside the boot. I used a saddle product, mink oil works also. If you oil the inside of the boot like I do, you'll need to wear socks that you don't mind getting discolored a bit during the break in process. In the following days and weeks I will re apply conditioner again if need be. As of today, I can already feel the leather relaxing. Some of you are wondering what I thought of the Wolverine 1000 mile Addisons by now? On a scale of 1 to 10 I give the Red Wings a 9 because I knew what to expect and appreciate the break in process. I'd have to say the 1000 mile Addisons are going to get a 10. The fit was a bit better out of the box. The leather felt softer I can see requiring little to no break in, and the size seven was slightly more accurate, although after time I may need to add inserts depending on how much they loosen up. This comparison is specific to the 2 models, and I can't say this would be the case for all the rest. I'm still a Red Wing guy and will never stop purchasing real work boots form Red Wing. I wouldn't recommend either boot for real work. Maybe for project managers or superintendents, But neither would go to war day in and day out through all the seasons and hold up the way Red Wing 2412's do.

Great boots, but inconsistent leather thickness between left and right
These are great boots overall — well made, comfortable after break-in, and the design and craftsmanship are what you’d expect at this price point. However, after wearing them for a few weeks and properly breaking them in, I noticed something wasn’t right. The left boot’s side leather is significantly softer and thinner than the right boot. After checking more closely, the difference in leather thickness is obvious, which affects support and structure on one side. This isn’t something that was noticeable when new and only became clear after normal wear. Unfortunately, due to this manufacturing inconsistency, I had to return the boots. I’ve taken photos to clearly show the difference and attached them to this review. It’s a shame because they are otherwise excellent boots, but consistency at this level really matters.

Exceptional boot. Don't overthink sizing
From the moment you take them out of the box, the quality and attention to detail is obvious. I have received multiple compliments on them while standing around at the pub. They simply look outstanding. I also love the smell of new leather and they have that in spades. These are likely the best made boots I own. Sizing was my biggest concern before they arrived. They are comfortable but take a bit to break in properly. That being said, I've had no issues. I did not try the boots on before ordering but instead spent hours scouring reviews to determine the best size. My original intent was to size down by 1/2, per many reviews and recommendations, but then my actual sized boot dropped dramatically in price so I ordered those. I've never worn Red Wings before but I have worn boots my entire life. I typically wear size 10 UK but I have a similar pair of Grenson boots that are 9.5 and a Frye lace-up that is 10.5. I went with 10 for the Red Wing. It fits my right foot perfectly but is a little large on my left. I wear thick Smart Wool socks and I wear a thin liner sock on my left and have had no issues. I've been wearing them for two weeks now and will often walk to the market and back, about 5 kilometres. They are a tad narrow but are long and my left boot has 3/4 inch spare room at the toe. I bought some inexpensive leather inserts for both, which seems to have helped. No foot pain, no complaints. They are comfortable, look great, and make me feel like a man - a real man with hair on his chest, a deep voice, and who doesn't get the hiccups when eating spicy food. Yeah, I feel like that man. You can too. Probably.
