500ml Dr. Oetker Vanilla Flavouring Essence

Beautiful flavour, as you'd expect from the brand. Love love love. Would highly recommend for cheap vanilla essence, just don't expect it to be real vanilla. Having said that, I do have a load of grade a vanilla pods and I do use them in things alongside this, the thing that gets me though is that you can't really tell the difference when you've added the real vanilla - that to me says it is probably pretty good. The only thing the real vanilla seems to add is the visual black seed pods in the mix. This is obviously just liquid. I'm sure a really distinguished pallete can tell the difference but so far I haven't been able too. Just to be fair - I also never cook with real vanilla alone, but I do add it to get the black seed pod look where needed

Was worried would taste artificial and chemically but comes out just the same as other smaller bottles you buy in supermarkets. This does not work in cold recipes the flavor seems to need heat to come though.

I have been buying this semi-regularly since January. The first two bottles I bought were great but then I received a bottle that just smelled off? No vanilla scent at all even after baking, just an acrid smell of alcohol and industrial floor cleaner. I thought it was a fluke and got a refund, but recently ordered another and just opened it to find it the same bad smell. My guess is some of the sellers batch has either gone bad or been stored incorrectly and the essence/extract has curdled
