Good Luck with some software bugs
UPDATE 2 - December 2025: The service support has been excellent. The U-tec team stayed on top of the problem until everything was fixed. Thank you. UPDATE: The fingerprint began to work, and my users were able to scan their fingerprints using the U Home app on my phone! The problem may be related to the Wi-Fi getting disconnected frequently. After many tries, I removed/reinstalled the batteries, and the scanner began to work after the Wi-Fi reconnected. Coincidence or not, that took care of the problem. We have an excellent 2.4 GHz service in the office, but for some reason, the lock keeps getting disconnected from Wi-Fi. In contrast, everything else in our office stays Wi-Fi connected without interruptions. It's the third time I've had to reconnect the Wi-Fi in a week of use. Initial Review: So far, the product has not worked as promised. The fingerprint registration only works if you are an "administrator". The fundamental problem is that the app cannot record the "normal user" fingerprint on the user's smartphone app, even when they are allowed to use my administrator phone. The U home app does not have an interface for a "normal user" to register their fingerprint using the app. The tech support rep told me, "For now, normal users have to use the PIN code method or the telephone app to open the lock. You can make them an administrator too". Making every employee an administrator is a silly suggestion because it will defeat the purpose of having an administrator. Today, I spent almost an hour with technical support troubleshooting the problem. It required removing the batteries, taking off half of the lock to unplug the internal cable, deleting and reloading the app, and repeatedly deleting and reentering all users' information. We conducted at least 10 trials with different employees, but NOTHING worked. After exhausting all her tricks, the support lady said she could not do anything more and would open a ticket for higher-level support. She advised me, "Please wait for an email within 24 hours." The app is not very user-friendly when it comes to creating new users, either. Mechanically, the lock is rugged and works well with a PIN code, but I paid extra to purchase a fingerprint lock. Please SAVE your money and buy their regular lock.

Excellent customer service
This review is more for their customer service than the lock itself. I have three u-tec locks now and, although i have had to replace one of them, they are, by far and away, the easiest to set up. I have had Kwikset and Schlage brands prior and they were difficult to set up, and both of them failed within one year, and as everyone knows, these types of locks are not cheap. Now to the main point of my review, customer service. Recently, I had contacted them about replacement keys for my Latch5 lock as I, or someone in my family have lost them. They don't offer replacement keys or tumblers for the locks, but what they did was to send me a replacement "clutch assembly", which included a new set of keys. I had to disassemble the lock and install it, but it was an extremely easy task and now my lock works perfectly, and I have a new set of keys. The lock is approximately a year and a half old at least, and the level of after care service I received was second to none. Initially, I contacted them by phone and explained my issue at which time they created a case and confirmed all my information. I sent them the S/N and a copy of my receipt and they ordered the new clutch assy. It did take some time to receive the replacement, but "Kiki" continued to follow up on the status of the shipment. Once it arrived, I installed it and initially had an issue, but it may have just been operator error. I contacted Kiki and was asked to monitor for the next few days to see if the issue persisted. I have checked the lock several times since and it seems to be working without issue now. Kiki has followed up by email at least three times since the installation of the new clutch to make sure that the issue is resolved and that I am satisfied. Not only am I satisfied with the lock, and that the issue of no keys is resolved, but I couldn't be more satisfied with the level of "after care" that has been provided from U-Tec. I highly recommend their locks, and also highly recommend, and commend, Kiki for the excellent customer service. Thanks, Chuck

Frustrating as hell
Sheesh what a pain in the butt this was to install. Not the mechanical part - that was as easy as anything like this can be. This is a pretty sturdy (but mot as sturdy as the older, not as "smart" model it replaced) lock that I used for entry to a server room in a commercial building. The app pairing and WiFi setup was insanely frustrating. I mean REALLY bad. It took an hour and a half or more to get this thing to the point where I could start adding users. The bluetooth pairing and discovery process failed at least a dozen times. It timed out so quickly that I had to start over several times. Once past that, I could not get it to connect to WiFi - it took another 8 or 10 attempts and I even had to verify that my APs were allowing 2.4Ghz connections since the app and instructions mention that about a million times - it doesn't support 5Ghz WiFi. But changing nothing, it finally decided to connect to WiFi (door is about 12 feet from an AP, BTW, so was not a signal strength issue). So it was hard enough to get going that I can't recommend it, but it was the only thing on Amazon that didn't seem like a total piece of junk except for the Schlage which had terrible reviews. Oh and as for ergonomics - why the hell would you put the fingerprint reader so close to the handle? I also found that you have to tap/smack the keypad area multiple times to get the think to wake up to allow for a PIN entry. The backup keyway is in a horrible spot too - just like the old model. Not happy so far. Note that these things EAT batteries, so you will be replacing them a lot. I'd suggest rechargeable Li-Ion or Eneloop Pros

Great!
I am both happy and displeased. The reason I had to buy this is that after 3-4 years the last one broke the latch would get stuck all the time, or constantly beep and have to be completely factory reset. However, I have one on my other door that has been good. So I have no idea but figured I'd give them another shot. What else can I say, the lock seems sturdy and with a heavier and more metal in this one. However, my old one had 3 screws in it where this has 2 so who knows. Adding it to the app was easy, getting on Wi-Fi took a minute but we figured it out. Not sure what I was doing wrong, it told me my correct password was incorrect but it wasn't. I noticed on these newer ones the fingerprint reader is smaller and not protected from the elements. On my older one, you had a little cut out where you would stick your finger into and the whole thing was covered. Mine is behind a screen door so this didn't bother me but something to mention. Otherwise, this one works well and is a lot faster in the app, the other one if I had to rely on the app to open it I would wait and wait and wait but this one works almost seamlessly (as long as the stupid app doesn't log me out which it CONSTANTLY does!) ONE THING I WANT TO STRESS UNILOCK NEEDS A WAY TO LOCK IT COMPLETELY FROM THE INSIDE!!!!!!! I have seen this mentioned over and over and over but they don't seem to read or care about this feedback. Something as simple as a toggle button that allows you to LOCK it so there is NO movement from inside. As it stands, if you install this with young kids they can just open the door and walk right out into the street, it would be locked from outside but the inside has no mechanism for stopping people from going OUT. We have to put on our deadbolt but this is a hassle because then if we go out one door and leave the deadbolt on then we can't get in that particular door, etc. It's a very commonly mentioned and seemingly easy problem to resolve if they would just take the time to listen and do it. I also wish you could add more fingers in the app. I have to add a fake version of me in order to add another finger so I can have a couple from each hand registered.

LOVE IT!
I was looking for a door lock with a keypad and came across this. I admit I thought the fingerprint function was a bit much but after looking at the other locks available and the ratings, I decided to give this one a try. It is a little pricey but it is worth every penny. Full disclosure, my lock had some kind of electrical glitch so I emailed the company's customer service to see if this was normal and they responded quickly and were so incredibly helpful AND even sent me a replacement door lock at no extra cost. I honestly could not have asked for better service!!! There are so many things I really like about this door lock. It feels substantial - it not only looks nice but it is weighty and solid and each piece is well made. It is extremely easy to install and I LOVE that if you have a standard door, there are no extra holes to drill so I can install it myself and not have to ask my grouchy husband for help. I've added the pin codes via the keypad and also using the app and while both ways are easy, using the app took no time at all. I love that you can unlock the door using a variety of methods and if all else fails, you can still use a normal key. And boy was I wrong about the fingerprint option! My family and I all thought the fingerprint thing was stupid... UNTIL we tried it out. Now it is the only method we use and I think the only time I've used the pin codes is when I first tested the lock to see if it worked. So since I've had to install this lock twice, I do have a few observations. First, take the extra few seconds and remove the screws and stuff from the little bags before you start installing and keep the stuff within reach. This will make your life a lot easier. Second, don't be an idiot like me and close the door while you are installing the lock, otherwise you will have to makeshift attach the handle in order to open the door again (just trust me). And third, tell you tech challenged loved ones that they do not need to press on the fingerprint pad, they just need to stick their finger there. It's funny to watch them do it but it's so unnecessary :) The only tiny suggestion I have to the creator of this lock is to make the hole that the wire goes through a little wider so you don't have to bend the wire in order for the connector end to fit through it. To me it doesn't make sense why it's not sized appropriately but maybe I'm just being picky. Other than that, I think this door lock is pretty great - it looks nice (I bought the nickel version), it's so easy to install, it's super easy to use, the app is very user friendly (you can even add a shortcut to your phone so you don't need to open up the app!) and their customer service is fantastic!

Great features, nice looking, not as large as I feared (updated)
Update 2: Loose handle? See below... Updated---added the fifth star: The secret to the finger print reader working nearly flawlessly is do not grab the handle while using the fingerprint pad. It may seem natural to grab the handle while pushing your thumb onto the reader, but that extra contact with the lock apparently affects getting a good reading. Once I stopped grabbing the handle my readings work on first touch nearly every time. I got this lock to use between the garage and dining room. I am beginning to use the Amazon Key Delivery feature to allow deliveries into my garage, and I only feel comfortable doing that with 1) a camera in the garage and 2) a lockable door between the garage and house. A normal keyed locking knob does not fit my situation because I have friends that need access to my house while I'm away, and they enter through the garage. With this lock I have given them separate codes to access the house and will add their thumb prints next time they visit. This lock was a Wirecutter best pick for lever handle locks, which is how I discovered it. I think this is the best value, with many great features for the money. Installation was super simple. The instructions were easy to follow. If you have to drill holes, the lock comes with some templates to help with positioning. Before you install, look for instructions about the optional Extra Security bolt on one of the templates. If used you will need to drill a small hole through the door above the normal knob hole. If you have a door over 2" thick and up to 2-3/4" thick, you will need to order the Thick Door Kit from U-tec. This is mentioned in the User Guide. Set up was a bit of a test, but it worked in the end. I knocked one star off overall partially due to how finicky the Bluetooth connection is to the phone. Only two feet away yet it has trouble connecting and reconnecting. One trick I found is to turn Bluetooth off/on at the phone before reconnecting. Bluetooth is used for setup, so it shouldn't be an issue during day to day use. Installing the app and adding rooms, locks, users was simple and intuitive. Be sure to check out the lock settings to set your default lock mode and add any notifications. When connected to the lock, the app can show a log of lock use...up to 1000 entries per lock, after which it will delete older log entries as it adds new entries. Notifications: You can choose to add notifications on your phone to let you know when specific users unlock the lock. Fingerprint reader (see update at the top): The star I knocked off was also partially due to the fingerprint reader being finicky. My left thumb worked fine, but it didn't seem to like my right thumb during initial testing. I found that by double-tapping and holding it seemed to work much better. When I arrived home today the right thumb worked just fine, so perhaps all is well after all. One more note: According to Wirecutter, the fingerprint scans are stored locally on each lock and are not saved in the phone app or uploaded to the cloud. That is a nice-to-know feature. Codes for entry: You can assign separate codes to different users, and the codes can be permanent or temporary. I've not set up a temporary code yet so I cannot speak to that, but setting up codes in general is a piece of cake. A minor shortcoming is that the display pad does not have the alpha characters next to each number (ala phone keypad and garage door opener keypad) for those whose code is based on a word. Backup physical key: The lock comes with three physical keys that can unlock the door using a hidden key slot on the bottom, outside. The only minor shortcoming here is that the keys are rather large. But it's a nice-to-have feature Google Home: I was able to add the lock to Google Home, but so far that feature seems mostly useless at this time. I really hope the manufacturer builds the Google Home integration out more to allow changing the Lock Mode based on my home/away settings in Google Home. It would be nice to have the lock in Passage mode when I'm home (unlocked) and in Normal Mode (locked) when I'm away. As it is, about all you can do is lock and unlock the door manually, but at least it's something. Battery life: I've only had the lock installed one day so I cannot speak to battery life...yet. The lock comes with four alkaline AA batteries, however for important equipment like this I prefer to use the more reliable lithium AA batteries. Alkaline batteries are too prone to leaking when they begin to get weak so I am phasing them out of all devices, starting with the pricier gadgets. Once my initial lithium batteries run out in the lock, I will try rechargeable batteries. I've been having success with the Tenergy brand batteries and charger so far. Loose Handle update: Over time my exterior handle became loose/wobbly. The set screw holding the handle on was fully tight and was not the problem. It turns out the screw holding the handle base (spindle) was loose. A call to customer service was all it took. The rep was helpful and understanding and sent PDF instructions on how to tighten the screw. The fix involved removing the lock and accessing the guts of the exterior piece, but all-in-all it was quite a simple fix. Good customer service retains 5 stars!

(Amazing Support) Pretty happy with this lock. Fingerprint works well enough, but can be tricky.
I got this because my wife was getting really tired of having to search for her key when entering the house from our garage while her hands were full. This has done the trick very nicely. Installation was not easy, but it certainly was not difficult. I'd say it took me about 45 minutes or so. Fingerprints work relatively well. This reader does not ask you to place your finger down many times to get the sides of your fingerprint like you have seen on smart phones. It asks you to place your finger down twice only, and that's all you get. From there, you have to learn how to place your finger on the lock for it to work. I'd say right now we are at about a 30% failure rate... a little less than about one out of every three tries fails. So far, a second time placing the finger (being more mindful about placement) has worked. At first, it was close to half, so I think we are learning how to better place our finger to get a successful read. We have pretty much never had to fall back to the user's code. So far, I'm relatively happy with this functionality. I'd like to see them improve the fingerprint reader. My only real complaint so far is that I feel there is not enough indication in the description of this lock that you need to purchase an additional $50 wifi bridge if you want to use your smart phone app if you are further away than bluetooth range. I definitely wanted that functionality and it would have been nice to know I needed to purchase the bridge unit as well, and get it all setup at once. Added one star for excellent technical support. They quickly sent out a new part to fix the problem. When that didn't fix the problem they sent a second. Problem fixed at zero cost to me. I am extremely pleased with the level of support I have received. (Update 7/6/20) My lock died, the electronics worked as far as the code and finger print, cell phone integration... everything was fine. But when it tried to unlock, it failed. I contacted support and after a few short emails, they identified the problem and sent a new part at zero cost to me, with very useful instructions on how to replace it within the lock. Potentially the best support I have received from a consumer device company in the past year...

Buyer Beware!
I don’t write a lot of reviews but I must try to save at least one person from buying this lock. I’ve been using it for months now and given it every opportunity possible. It just fails at just about everything it’s supposed to do other than stay locked. First. the smart functions are essentially useless as the battery drain is so fast it becomes a major nuisance. The battery access isn’t even convenient as it’s secured by a small screw, no idea what the purpose of that is. Second, the fingerprint reader is nothing more than an agonizing troll bent on torturing you. It never works, clean it, clean your finger, reregister prints, family of four…It works for anyone ever. The success rate is less than 10% and everyone in my family has given up on it and now just use the code. Which is also a nuisance because when you touch the pad to wake it up you often have to do that multiple times as well. Last, the app is really buggy as well. You have to wake the lock up to connect to Bluetooth because your WiFi is disabled due to battery drain. It often fails to connect and you have to force close the app and reopen to connect. The lock bypass controls are layered in the settings and more of a pain to set than it should be. No idea why a bypass code can’t be a lock code. Just lazy app development. My family hates me for putting this lock in. My kids glare at me and I’m pretty sure my wife now thinks the neighbor is smarter and hotter. Do yourself and your family a favor and pass on this lock.

Not very reliable
When this works it works really well but I have had to reset it twice already using the reset button. My other half is losing faith that we can rely on the lock to give us access when needed. I have got round this by having a key box with the keys for manual operation on the outside of the gate but this has been extra cost and effort for an already expensive lock

simply a toy
It stopped working after a couple of years and the key could not unlock it.

Recomendable.
Excelente calidad! Probé Philips y Eufy antes que esta, pero nada mejor que esta Ultraloq, más de 5 meses con las baterías originales.

Very happy with this smart lock, the customer service and the corresponding app.
I got my carpenter to fit this lock as part of fitting a new fire door to my apartment front entrance, therefore cannot comment on the installation process. The app is easy to download. I had to use an international phone service (Viber) to be ‘talked through’ how to set up the user for this smart lock, as I did not manage to figure this out from the written instructions that came with the lock. The customer service is in America and Australia (not the UK where I live) but the woman spent around 40 minutes with me on the phone until it was resolved. This phonecall was then followed up with an email from the company, so the customer service is excellent. You can set up multiple users for the smart lock with different codes, but it is not possible to change the code - if I ever want to change a user’s code, I have to delete the user and then re-ad them. It’s simple enough to do, but it would be better if there was the option to simply change the code without having to delete and re-ad each time. Once you know how to do this, it doesn’t take long. Very happy with the finger print access (2 finger prints per user) and also the 4-8 digit code access. I have not yet tried connecting this lock to Alexa or any of the other advertised features, so cannot comment on this functionality feature. I do keep the emergency key for the lock on my keyring along with my car key etc, and another spare key for this smart lock in a secure location ‘just in case’ I do get locked out using the digital function of this smart lock - the key hole is discreetly under the smart lock. Not yet had to use my emergency key access, but it’s good to have it available! Overall, very happy with this smart lock and the app that works alongside it. I like that with each ‘user’ you can choose if you want to add them as an ‘admin’, ‘normal user’ or ‘temporary user’. One last thing to comment on, is that this lock is not too loud to operate. There is a small beep and motor sound when it unlocks, but it is not bothersome which is great. Photo: side view of both sides of my smart lock.
