First used in combat during the Punitive Expedition into Mexico and then extensively during the world wars, the Colt Government Model (1911) pistol remained the standard issue handgun in the US armed forces for nearly 80 years and has continued in service with some units to this day. In fact, the M1911 has seen a resurgence amongst US Special Operations units as US Marine MARSOC and MEUSOC personnel are issued current generation 1911-type pistols. In addition the pistol has seen service with famous law enforcement agencies such as the Shanghai Municipal Police, LAPD Swat and Texas Rangers. Nearly a century after its introduction, the M1911 pistol remains a popular design and is now produced by virtually every major firearms manufacturer doing business in the USA. Colt 1911 history
Great book, plenty of facts on the venerable 1911, my favourite handgun.

Like all the books in this series, well written with a good mixture of historical context and technical info.

A typical Osprey Weapon book.
This book doesn't stick out, but when covering such a famous gun, what hasn't been said already. It follows the Osprey Weapon formula closely, which isn't a bad thing, but it is still a beginners book that won't appeal much to people with a good knowledge about the Colt M1911. A good book for the purpose it is meant to serve, to be an introduction of the gun's history and use.

Great Present or for General Interest
This book is a great treatise on the venerable 1911 and gives a lot of detail about the process by which it was adopted by the US Army. The paper quality is good and the photographs clear.

Excellent Factual Book.
This is an excellent factual history of the Colt 1911 Pistol with plenty of coloured photographs of the weapon. As with other Osprey publications in this series, it is a bargain at the price!

もっとボリュームがあると良いと思うのですが、あまり取り上げられなかった南米産のガバメントについての記述は目から鱗でした。Model1911のファンであれば、手元にあっても邪魔にはならないと思います。

Worth the cash!
I have a stack of these series of books, i’ve only been disappointed once.. This Particular one was super!!

Excellent!
This is a moderate-length book that features something that some authors don't cover very well in some 1911 books-- that would be the history of the brave men who used these pistols in combat. Very well written and researched, with an emphasis on the people who made the gun what it is today, those people being American heroes. Detailed yet succinct, a very nice simple read that is great for any 1911 fan, especially people new to the gun.
