love it!!!!
i am a late (very late indeed) adopter of this game. Just bought it recently (in 2011!!!!! i know!) and totally love it. I was put off by the DRM issue when it first came out in 2008 and I am glad I revisited the thought of buying the game! I have always been a big fan of customisable avatars in games and there is really tones of customisation to play with in Spore, from cell stage to creature stage. The tribal/civilisation/space stage customisation is a bit limited in term of the clothing/gears you can choose from, and the creature stops evolving once it reaches the tribal stage. Much has been said about the game play, i just want to emphasise again that each stage is unique with the space stage being the most in depth of all. it's like having 4 mini games (cell, creature, tribal, civilisation) and a big game (space). Since you can literally create any creature in any way your imagination takes you, the replyability value is very high! the best game of the year 2011 (at least for me) :)

Good game, for what it is.
Hype can be good and bad, good to get people aware of the game and looking forward to it, bad if the hype exceeds what the game delivers in the end. Spore is a victim of its hype, but to just then write it off completely because of that does it a disservice. I have not played a game I have enjoyed in a long time, these days there all just clones of first person shooters and real time strategy games. I don't want shinny new graphics overlaid on top of the games I had 10 years ago, I want something new or failing that at least something fun or interesting, spore delivers in these respects. It's the first time in over 2 and a bit years I have enjoyed a game and even made me laugh. I would rather play a game that lasts me a few days and I actually found fun and interesting then a game that takes weeks that felt like I had played it before and am just going through the motions to get through to the end of the story. I am aware that there are things in spore which are utilized from those past 10 years but it just has something about it, how its been designed and brought together that adds a sparkle to it, makes it interesting and fun for a change. I also don't believe this game is going to get its full potential for me as I'm 24 years old. I think this game is going to be even more exciting and provide more game playing time for 12 year olds, the kind that when The Sims first came out brought it and made it one of the worlds's best selling games. Spore is more like Lego and Playdoh put together but in 3D, where you put all the blocks together and create something yourself and then pit it against the other things you have made till you are left with 1 of them destroyed and one of them headless which rolled under the sofa. Aimed at ages 12 and up, not 20 and up sadly. This is not a game for someone out of there teens looking for that in-depth, web-based, number calculation, galactic civilization, bounty hunter, rogue trader, role playing type of game with intuitive interface made 3D. It is a kids game, where they get to do a little bit of all the above to keep things moving and to give them something to do but primarily its to allow them to goof off and have some fun making silly monsters and evolving them to fly around the galaxy. In this respect spore is a brilliant game, it just needs to be taken for what it is, not for what people thought it should have been. Because of all this I'm giving it 5 stars for fun, no matter how short the experience was and 4 stars over all because I'm not 12 anymore to fully enjoy it for a long period of time, which is my problem, not the games.

SPORE IS FUN
Trust me when i say that spore is fun it lets you create your own creature and make it attack or befriend other creatures. Many people have said this game is not good but i just don't think they play it properly or hate it because their friends thunk its boring; i have spent hours on this game and because no game is the same i never get bored because i didn't want any arms or 18 eyes just aren't enough. So I've said it before and ill say it again SPORE IS FUN!!! Another great thing is they constantly make it better using patches, for instance everyone used to hate it because you could install it only 3 times now that no longer exists! so ignore anyone just following the crowd and read reviews written by people who do their research.

Cheated by Amazon!!!
Be very, very, careful buying software from Amazon s.a.r.l !!!! I bought this Spore (PC version) game on 30th December, for my grandson's 12th birthday on 15th February. The game doesn't work, or run, because the Game Handbook with the Installation Code was missing from inside the sealed box. How did that happen? It appears that I have no redress because my right to return the game expired on the 9th February. This was six days before I gave him the game as part of his birthday present. This game was shrink wrapped, but looks as though it was not new! This is very alarming. Be warned. This was not a new game!!!!! The box contained two A5 promo sheets that were "badly screwed up", for the game Spore Origins and for The Sims 3. It also contained what appears to be a valid Spore PC DVD. HOWEVER, THE BOX DID NOT CONTAIN ANY INSTRUCTION BOOK NOR ANY PAPER DETAILING THE INSTALLATION CODE. WITHOUT THE INSTALLATION CODE THE GAME CANNOT BE PLAYED. I have now decided that I will NOT BUY SOFTWARE FROM Amazon AGAIN. This is not just a simple omission of the handbook, because of the inclusion of two badly screwed-up promo sheets. This looks as though it may have been a "customer return" that has been "re-shrink wrapped" and put back on the shelf!!! I assume that the Installation Code would be on a separate sheet, but I don't know for sure. My grandson tells me that normally it is printed on the back of the Manual. I feel cheated by Amazon, not only do they recirculate customer returns, they haven't given me the right to return a non merchantable item. This is a disgracefull way to run a big business!!! Late addition. Having now read a lot of 1 star reviews for this product, well over 400 one star reviews must be a world record, I now think I know why my box was missing its Instruction Manual and Installation Code. It appears that the DRM protocols employed by EA, the software giant, are very restrictive and only allow 3 Install Tokens. Many events, such as a hardware malfunction or hardware addition, will result in the forfeit of a token. Even reinstalling the software on the same computer results in the loss of a token. It seems possible to me that a disgruntled Amazon employee in their Returns Department owns his copy of this game, but has exhausted his three tokens. By taking the Instruction Manual, but not the DVD, he gets to start again with the full set of tokens. Surely this can't be true. Do you think that I am being too cynical??? Very Late addition. After quite a lot of searching through a lengthy series of steps, much more difficult than is necessary, I managed to speak to somebody about my grievance. They were very curtious and, after checking with their Management about my assertions, they allowed me a full refund and paid the postage to return the faulty item. This was quite a professional recovery action and I am now much happier. I am still alarmed that Amazon appear to be re-shrink wrapping returned software from customers. It can look brand new, yet may not be. I still don't trust Amazon. My son is most upset with the imposition of only three Install Tokens, and the long list of instances that can forfeit a Token. Most people might agree that installing the software on another machine was a valid reason. If only this was the single reason that EA impose. He now doesn't trust Electronic Arts. My grandson is most upset that the software refused to install, and run, when he and his father tried to do so. He can't understand how a brand new sealed software package isn't brand new and fully working. He still doesn't trust Amazon.

Read This! Best Review For Anyone!
I've recently played this game despite it being out for quite a while! This game has to be one of the most imaginative games ever created in ever such a long time, the possibilities are quite simply endless in the sense that what ever you do will have an impact on how the game starts and ends! The game is brilliant for young minds growing up as it helps them to think not only for themselves but for the other creatures in the game, and even their own race of creature they've made! Perfect, Fun and slightly educating! *****5 stars every time Don't bother saying no to it just because people have made it a low majority of stars! Believe me, it's addictive and so worth buying! and no other place on the net does it cheaper ;D Eliot Ruben (most legit review)

A simple game for simple people
Spore. In 2005/6, Spore looked to be a very promising title. The complex character modelling, the procedural combat and dynamic diplomacy; A universe on an epic scale. A game so deep, you were promised to spend more than a lifetime playing it... That was back then. Now the game is as deep as your wallet. All it does is take your money and run, leaving you with a very weak series of mini-games. Playing spore is like playing an online Java Game. There are no complex controls, just simple point and click tools and two choice options. From cell stage, you point and click your little cell around the game world eating meat until you evolve to creature stage. Creature stage is a massive dissapointment. You walk around from nest to nest with only two options. Attack the creature or play simon says. Making friends is as simple as copying what the creature says... as simple as it seems... wait, you thought I was going to it wasn't? Well sorry, it's simple. Combat is equally as easy with the player just pushing either 1 to bite or 3 to slash. Sometimes 2 to charge or 4 to spit, but they seem to have no affect on the enemy. Going to Space stage leaves you feeling like you've wasted your time. Yes, the mini-arcade games were fun, but you don't feel like you've actually achieved anything. This is what I meant when I said Spore was like an online java game. You have fun but you feel like you've wasted your time. Anyway, space stage was boring. It promised freedom but all it did was chain you to a few missions. Your home colonies are also under constant attack by pirates and enemy empires even if you never killed another animal before. The attacks are so frequent that when I was exploring a different star system, creating life and terraforming a planet, i was greeted by 10 attack messages at exactly the same time. What's worse, 5 of these were biological timed reponses where I had 5 minutes to save 5 colonies. Even on easy mode, the game is still excruciatingly diabolical when it comes to disasters and attacks. Eventually you get bored of shooting off every damned pirate from your planets as combat is just point and click. Diplomacy at this level is also equally frustrating. To make an ally, all you did was give them a gift and compliment them then voila; you were allies. This has got to be the simplest "open world" game I have ever seen, and despite the fact the people can create anything they want, everything looks the same. All the creatures are red skinned and ugly! Spore is... or spore was meant to be a great game, worthy of legend. Now it's just another corporate money scheme to rake in the cash for EA. If you like a bit of fun now and then (ie. casual gamer) then Spore might be the game for you but for the hardcore gamer like myself; man... what a dissapointment.

SPORE - Please give me more!
One of the most hyped up games of the year has now been released, and I have finally resurfaced to tell you about it. Made by the creator of the SIMS, SPORE was never going to be a disappointment. There are some pretty obvious similarities, like the graphics, SPORE has the same simple futuristic 3D animations and idiot proof options tabs, and just like the SIMS I did feel a bit like God on a power trip. But this is where the similarities end, SIMS fans be warned. You are now in control of evolution. Life for you starts out as a single Spore in a tide pool; you must fight your way through life, evolving and reproducing until you can walk on land and create a future for your species in space. Travel through six evolutionary phases by making friends and killing your enemies, whilst all the time moulding your creatures for their survival. As exciting as this sounds, at times the game does become a little tedious and almost too easy; this may have been because I played it on `easy', but still, it is a shadow of what it could have been. Despite these flaws I did admittedly become quite addicted, and found letting my peculiar and ugly featured aliens go, extremely hard. Overall I would say it is definitely worth a bit of your gaming time, but do not expect the epic adventure we were all led to believe SPORE would be.

Much Needed
Excellent Game that has kept my 13 year old son busy for many hours. Creating and designing new characters is fantastic. You are as good as your imagination will let you go........... One Big Problem...... The follow on 'Dark Spore' has major problems linking up to this original game. According to the manufacturer, Dark Spore is an add on or extension to the original......But we have installed and uninstalled many, many times... and still the 2 will not run together..... With regards to the manufacturer EA Games, they don't even wanna know.... I've given up Emailing them...... Typical case of 'Take the money and Run'........EA should be ashamed of themselves. Many others are having the same problem sadly, EA will not respond with a 'Bug Fix'........... Consider this if you are considering buying Dark Spore extension with the main Spore Game. Thanks for reading this... Guy J . Alicante. Spain.

Erfinde neue Species

CREATIVETY GAME ! ! ! GEEEZE !
Like the title to my review states...this is a creative-imagination driven game, as it is game play. They give you everything you will need for each stage. You design and build your creature along the way as it grows into a more smarter, and capable creature. You start out as a microbe, and progress an improve upon your " critter " as it developes. You can check on Youtube for " how to " on all levels of the game. And how to extend an adjust limbs for ANY kind of critter. Eventually your critter will develop the ability to tribe, make fire, hunt, even war with other tribes. Once you master this, you move to where we currently are " civilized " city an nuclear capable. If you master this stage it comes to a fun stage- " Space....the final frontier,, these are the voyages of the...." you have creator modes for practicaly EVERYTHING. They provide colors, textues, and building tool that would RIVAL the Sims ( HENCE the " new " builder tools of Sims 4 THEY GOT THEM FROM SPORE ! ! THE TOOLS AREN'T NEW ! ) Spore is great ! I play it, when I am not playing my Sims 3. Give it a try...if you like the gsme, look for me, I am CassKORR-ria on Spore, hope you will make me a buddy and enjoy my creations. *** UPDATE- 03-09-15 Had several questions asked if Spore will work on Windows 8, 8.1 YES it will work..on SOME computer systems, you may have to SAVE your game, an RESUME say, after each developmental stage. I have to do this, myself once in awhile, IT DOES NOT BOTHER ME, I play the Sims 3 and with that game, you save an resume periodically as well. SUGGESTION ON SAVING; Shortly after your creature has made landfall, and you have added newer upgraded body parts ( eyes, mouths, limbs, etc ) THIS will keep you from losing ENTIRELY all your effort, should the game crash-usually in the event of your having died when you lost a fight, or an Epic ( giant monster creature ) kills you.
