VERSASTACK Storage Organizer, Small Parts Organizer, 20-Compartments, Lid Includes Secure Latch (CMST17828)

This product is CRAFTSMAN’s VERSASTACK 20-compartment storage organizer (it is CRAFTSMAN Model Number CMST17828). This is part of the VERSASTACK line of products that is particularly notable because all of the VERSASTACK products are capable of being fitted together as part of an organized tool storage system. In this case, the product is not so much designed to be used for actual tool storage, but instead for storage of consumable parts and supplies that the user will need to accomplish their assigned tasks. The VERSASTACK line of products share the same basic dimensions and inter-compatibility as the DeWALT TSTAK line of products. This makes perfect sense since both the CRAFTSMAN and DeWALT product lines are actually owned by Stanley Black & Decker (Stock Symbol: SWK). The CRAFTSMAN product line was purchased from Sears Holding in 2017 by Stanley Black & Decker and incorporated into their stable of companies. Many of the DeWALT TSTAK products have equivalents in the CRAFTSMAN line of products, and vice versa, but there is not 100% replication between the product lines. For example, this particular product does not have an equivalent product made and sold under the DeWALT product line at this time. Many of the products that do have equivalents are identical with the only discernable difference being the use of red polymer or yellow polymer in their production. This particular product uses the same basic footprint as the large DeWALT ToughCase+ case used by DeWALT and CRAFTSMAN to merchandise their large bit and drill selections (and also sold empty for drill and bit storage outside the United States). (Please see the DEWALT FlexTorq 100-Piece Impact Driver Bit Set (DWANGFT100SET) and the CRAFTSMAN 140Pc Drill/Drive Bit Set (CMAF140SET) as current examples.) The size of the case is reported as 17.16"L by 9.75"W by 2.73"H. There are minor differences, most notably that the handle for the unit has been incorporated into the inside of the case (for additional space) and replaced with a simple polymer strap handle. The inside of the case has been changed to allow for both permanent and removable dividers to be incorporated. The case is supplied with six (6) black dividers and nine (9) red dividers to be placed into the slots provided in the sides of the case and in the permanent dividers to define the twenty (20) individual compartments for parts storage. Also of note is that the bottom of the case also has grooves to accept the bottoms of the dividers and prevent small parts from migrating from one compartment to another. As with the other CRAFTSMAN and DeWalt products, the top of the case is injection molded from high-quality and high-strength clear polycarbonate polymer. The case lid is designed to close very nearly touching (but not quite) the tops of the permanent and the removable dividers to help keep stored products in their assigned compartments. Finally, the case top has a polymer seal around the perimeter to provide the case with an IP54 dust and water resistance rating. This VersaStack case has top and bottom latch components included on the left and right sides to latch the product to other VersaStack, DeWALT TSTAK, and large DeWALT ToughCase+ cases. The lid also has two “Secure Latch” components on the front of the case to lock the lid to case. The case top also has the necessary components to allow the latching of small VersaStack and DeWALT ToughCase+ cases to the top of the case, if so desired. Please note that the CRAFTSMAN VersaStack products are not directly compatible with the CRAFTSMAN TRADESTACK line of products (or the DEWALT ToughSystem 2.0 line of products) except through the use of the CRAFTSMAN TRADESTACK Adaptor. I like these cases very much. I looked on every possible source venue to find this same product made by DeWALT but, as of this moment, it is not yet being produced. So, I will have to accept a little “Red & Black” in the midst of my “Yellow & Black” collection. I will live, but it will not be easy. The two organizers I have purchased (so far) have gone far to help me organize the many parts I have purchased for several of the common work areas I have. I may have to purchase more, if everything works out as it appears it will. So far, I have only one concern with the product and it is this; the polymer strap handle does not allow sufficient slack to allow me to easily insert my hand to grasp the handle. I wish DeWALT would make the strap handle a longer and a little easier to pull out of its storage slots. Other than that, I think that this case is great, even if it is “Red & Black”. It is helping me sort though and to organize my individual components into a system where I can find my parts time after time. It saves me a lot of time, money, and frustration when working on my projects. Thank you for producing a quality product.

We are using it for livestock showing. So we turned it into a clipper box! It works amazing with the other main box and keeps our livestock clippers in place without movement! Keeps everything organized and seems durable!

The entire VERSASTACK system is awesome. Everything locks together and the builds on them are super sturdy. I highly recommend the whole system.

Very sturdy equipment, great to organize item's, well made.

I like the nice clear full window and overall it feels very sturdy but there is one thing that annoys me about these a lot - the lid opening. The lid opens exactly 90 degrees, and doesn't have any sort of friction or snap action to keep it in the opened position whatsoever. If you even so much as touch the thing the lid will tend to close itself. Really the hinge is actually a little too smooth for its own good in this case. I find the sizing to be good for general shelf storage or portability if needed. It can store quite a bit more stuff than the low profile compact Packout, and the items inside are quite a lot easier to view through the clear window. The tradeoff is that you don't get removable bins and they don't really latch and unlatch from each other quite as securely or easily. I would say overall these are best for home garage use for organizing random bolts and other stuff that you might need to occasionally access on a level and stationary surface. If you need something to actually pack into a vehicle and access frequently for field use, I'd probably recommend the Packout system instead.

Nice and sturdy, keeps everything in place.

This organizer attaches to our tool box and is so convenient I'm considering adding another. Snaps on securely and is easy to store and access. I highly recommend.

I almost have the complete set and I really like the Vera stack from craftsman. It’s made well. I like the containers good sizes and I’m sure I’ll have it for many many years.

Bit smaller and cheaply made compared to the compatible Stanley and DeWalt equivalents - only half sized too - I mean sure its useful for extra fasteners or whatever, and you can move the dividers about, but I expected a little more - oh and you cant stack other items on top One way they could improve the EXISTING design is a few more plastic projections coming out the bottom, so it mates better WITH the TSTAK/VersaStak/Prostack designs its 'compatible with so it's ok but ... Mehh could do a LOT better ;)
