Sarah Raven offers gardeners an intoxicating and revolutionary new approach to creating vibrant gardens which reach out and grab you. Want to create a dramatic garden that leaves a lasting impression ? This stunning guide offers a new approach to planning and planting, encouraging you to throw caution to the wind and orchestrate colours, textures, scale and scent to spectacular effect from spring until autumn. The key is colour : intense, strong and voluptuous such as deep crimsons combined with acid green and incandescent orange. Integral to the vision is a feeling for dramatic scale: plants with huge presence, architectural foliage, strong, sculptural shapes and to complete the effect, flowers with silken and velvety textures and flooding the garden with scent. There are schemes for sunny, open beds and borders for shady areas , for damp soils and to clothe walls and fences - many of which include lots of quick-growing annuals and take only a season to achieve, so there will be something here for all gardeners regardless of the space or situation you are working with. This is the go-to guide for achieving a spectacular and striking garden. Review: Amazing - This book is so helpful to gardeners looking for some inspiration on how to spice up your garden borders. The flowers and colours she uses are so beautiful, just makes you want to have all her flower layouts. Has photos of all the favourite and most used flowers, and talks you through how to use them, when to cut, sow, plant and with what etc. very useful. My only grip would be that i would like to see some more photos of her garden overall (pan out photos rather than specific area photos). However that would perhaps deter you from going to visit her garden at perch hill then. I only wish i had enough room to try all her creations. Review: Excellent - I absolutely love this book and wish I had more on a similar vein. As an enthusiastic gardener, I've thoroughly enjoyed it as an inspiration for areas of the garden within my overall design. While I would have liked more photos of the overall composition of the gardens in which the plants featured, I don't regret my purchase for one moment as it is packed with new and exciting combinations, full of colour, texture and all in all, thoroughly inspiring. The book describes different seasons and the key players providing interest throughout the year. My favourite thing to try and attempt this early spring is the forced rhubarb, wallflower foliage and deep purple and hot pink hyacinths. Annuals, bulbs and biennials are useful to flesh out what can be somewhat desiccated looking borders of bland bush-blobs with their lush foliage and flowers, and this book is perfect for breaking the over-sold, over simplified G. Jekyll pastel palette.

Inspirational planting ideas
I bought this book to give me some new ideas for colourful planting in my flower garden. I love the colour combinations she uses and the way she suggests plants and schemes for different planting situations and conditions. The only negative for me is that I can't seem to track down many of the plants she uses.

inspiring ideas
A very easy to read book, full of inspiring ideas and tips. Photos and text very well correlated and photos well labelled. I've only recently started gardening and want to create something eye catching. A book like this is very valuable if you're starting from a blank canvas and want to get some ideas of whats possible and how to achieve colour and structure all season long, but equally would be inspiring if your garden is already established, this book would definitely make you feel like embracing bold and beautiful colour.

Bold and beautiful
What can i say that will do justice to the delight of owning this book. I purchased it on the basis of Sarah's TV programmes and was not disappointed. Informative, colourful, enjoyable, the perfect book to read but then keep by your elbow to dip into time and time again. Colour is the key to this book and during the miserable days of winter it has been a real tonic! Easy to read but with lots of information, even for 'seasoned' gardeners.

Great book with lovely photos but the suggestions often would work best in a much larger garden than I have, as some of the plants (climbers like Campsis, for example) can be monstrous when they get older.

Afraid of color?
Are you afraid of too much color in your garden? Do you fall into the trap of conventional landscaping rules of lumping similar colors with each other? Then, take a bold step and challenge your visual senses. The Bold and Brilliant Garden is an invaluable addition to any gardening library. Sarah Raven presents the use of beautiful color combinations in a very naturalistic manner. She outlines the use of different types of plants and color combinations, and she supplies us with a wealth of vibrant color photographs.

Really enjoyable garden book
Beautiful Book. Tons of great ideas for creating more of a depth to your garden. Truly a lovely book. Just like my wardrobe, I struggle coordinating different flower together and this book is a great guide. Pretty enough to leave on the coffee table!
