I bought this for my niece who is 7 years old and she loved the pictures and the fact that Emi was similar to her. It was clear and simple for her to read out loud. The next day she asked me to do her hair and I twisted it exactly like the story. Such a great bonding experience. Can't wait to see Emi's other journeys Thank you! Review: Good for girls becoming conscious of their Afro hair - My daughter loves this book. Hence, highly recommended for any young girl become more conscious of her Afro hair.

Lovely positive story
Lovely story & my four year old daughter identified with Emi immediately. Nice quality book, vibrant pictures and positive message. Would definitely recommend! One thing that we noticed was when Emi selected a hair accessory from the tub she had nothing in her hand o_O

IT'S A GREAT BOOK!
Being the mother of a mixed race 4 year old boy who has 'complicated hair' texture, it is always important for me to find books that he can see himself reflected in the story and this book did that so beautifully AND the illustrations are really cool.

7 year old loves it
I personally did not find this book as good as I expected it to be BUT who am I to comment? I do not have afro hair, my daughter does, and she absolutely loves it! She keeps asking for me to read it to her, she calls her own hair cotton candy or liquorice sticks etc, so I guess it deserves 5 stars rather than 4? Pictures are lovely throughout.

Educational
Perfect for educating my 4 year old daughter. She wanted her hair like Emi's after reading. We then had to make her hair neat at bedtime and in the morning do cornrows in her very blonde hair so she had twists just like Emi

My niece is falling in love with her hair!
Recently I noticed my niece complain about her hair and how she wants it straight (it’s curly) so when I got this book for her on her birthday, she started to like her hair again. She loves her curly hair and is proud of it. We need to instil self-love in our beautiful boys and girls from a young age! Thank you!

Perfect for instilling love in hair
I loved reading this book to my daughter. It was all about the curly hair without comparing it to straight hair. It’s important that my daughter hear positive things about curly hair without it seeming like it’s a bad thing that they have to get over because it’s not straight like their classmates. This book is all about emi loving her curly coils hair and I fully recommend for anyone little girls you want to instill pride without bringing up straight hair or a certain palm shade of people who tend to have straight hair. Totally recommend this book!

Relatable for little girls. Wonderfully written and illustrated.
Santa brought it for my 9 year old along with other similar books to help her learn to love her curly hair. She could relate to the little things throughout the book and it made her laugh. She especially loved seeing the washing routine was the same as hers with pictures of comb, conditioner, spray bottle etc. And the satin bonnet while sleeping. So relatable and wonderfully written and illustrated. She has really been struggling to love her hair but these books have helped her understand a little more of how to embrace what she has been blessed with.
