As good as it gets
Ordered Thursday for FOC 3-5 days delivery, arrived Saturday so that's the 1st good point. I have a 4.5 x 3 x 1m pond overstocked with various fish (the first year that we had them they were very productive!) surrounded by fruit trees, and relies on a pupmed filter that I clean out 3 times a year, so I knew that after 1 year since my last water change that there would be a lot of c**p at the bottom. Having previously caused a leak by scooping out the debris with a net I didn't want to go through the palaver of a new liner again. Having read some of the adverse comments about frequent blockages I thought that it was worth a try as I just wanted to remove all that lurking fish poo. Well yes, after 3 minutes it blocked with a small pebble, and then every so often with a bit of weed or harder fibrouse stuff. But, did it suck up all of the gunk? YES it did. Did I mind the occasional blockage (mainly weed) that took 2 mins each to clear? NO, not at all. Could I see the bottom of the pond? NO, but the clear part of the tube showed me when I needed to move the pump head. If you would prefer spending 3 days moving your fish to a temporary holding area, and doing a complete water change / clean then you don't need this vac. For me, this is much better than the ones that filter the water back into the pond, just suck all that nasty up and dispose on the flower beds. Summary: gets rid of the gunk, followed by a water replacement (no more than 1/3 of the pond at any one time), some lost time for the odd blockage (and this will reduce with more freequent usage), = I am more than pleased. One minor criticism, the discharge hose is on the short side, so you need to extend it using whatever piping you have available.

Horses for courses
Four stars for a horse that fits my course. I have a seven foot long by four foot wide by three feet deep pond with butyl liner which I built myself about a year ago, it was clean from the start save for a few grains of sand. It has a pressurised filter and the water is very clear. The pond is by my own admission well over stocked and I do tend to overfeed my fish as I love to see them battle to gourge themselves. I needed a pond cleaner that was easy to use once a week to keep the pond floor clear of fish waste. In this respect the Hozelock works perfectly. It was very easy to assemble, there is no disassembly when not in use, I take it out the shed put the drain hose in the flower bed and plug it in. It is comfortable to hold and use simply by use of a sweeping motion back and fourth. The fact that it drains water is useful for topping up with clean but you could put a filter bag on the outlet pipe and flush the drain water back into the pond. It has a useful clear window in the handle so that you can see what you are drawing up. The whole process takes 5 mins each week, very simple, no fuss or bother or without clouding the water, perfect for my needs. What it wont do is pick up stones or sizeable vegetable matter (it does pick up sand and grit). My pond is new and I have kept it clean from the off, and I dont suffer with leaves or vegetation falling into it, if yours has stones in the base or routinely suffers from roting vegetation then the rotors will block and stop the machine. The rotors are relatively easy to clear out as the nozzle is removable but it will be a pain if you need to do it often. If it had an on/off switch it would get 5 stars, you turn it off by pulling out the plug, not ideal with wet hands.

Quite heavy
It's okay, but have to keep taking it apart as it stops quite a lot.

Hozeloc Vac 1752
Contrary to all the negative reviews this item gets, it does a great job....although the advert for it on Hozeloc site saying its a heavy duty vac/shredder, you DO NEED TO RID THE POND OF 99% OF FALLEN LEAVES, as it does block very easily when deluged with loads of leaves...it simply cannot cope, and after emailing Hozeloc about this, and receiving a prompt reply 16 minutes after they opened at 9am the next day, the Consumer Service Advisor advised me of this point..... it's actually meant for all the smaller stuff lurking at the bottom of the pond, and any stray leaves etc it finds it copes fantastically well with..... So to sum up......DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO SUCK UP 100'S OF FALLEN LEAVES....IT WON'T COPE.... and once you know this ....everything is fine.

VERY DISAPPOINTING BY HOZELOCK'S USUAL STANDARDS
I have a 4,500 ltr semi-raised pond that had developed too much sludge at the bottom, so I decided a pond vac was in order and chose this because I have always found Hozelock stuff to be really durable and practical. It arrived quickly and comes dis-assembled in an extremely compact box but it was very straight forward to put it all together - ready to go in under 5 minutes. Once in use, with the heavy pump at the very end of a 5ft arm it is quite unwieldy. Additionally, the supplied hose is only about 2m long so you need to buy an extra length and it is a push-fit onto the base of the top handle where you align some grooves and lugs. Why they didn't go the extra mile and make that a twist lock I will never know because its uber annoying that once its wet, the push-fit connector comes apart if you move it too vigorously. First annoyance, there is no on/off switch on the item, so you either have to run a protected, switchable extension cord to the side of the pond or you end up legging it back to the power point to turn it off and your hands are wet !! .... very poor design. Suction is immediate and strong but it started to fail within 20 minutes. Being magentically driven, the impeller just stops rotating at the slightest sign of resistance. When I took it apart, I found a small fragment of white plastic had broken off the integral collar that aligns the impeller in its housing. After 2 or 3 more fails, I found more tiny bits of plastic and notced the impeller was now spinning with a noticeable wobble because the missing fragments were allowing too much lateral play in the impeller shaft. Eventually I gave up, took it apart, cleaned it, re-boxed it and sent it back. I now await my refund. Really disappointing from Hozelock - this is just a shabby peice of design from the lack of a cut off switch to the flimsy design of the impeller unit to the really poor hose connections.

If you have a pond buy one.
This was a early birthday present, and can i say it works a treat. Took some time to get the technique on how to use it effectively. However like all things a little practice and you will eventually get it right. The rubbish this collected from the bottom of my pond was amazing. I was caught unawares by the ferocity of the suction, and the amount of rubbish it brought up. I would advise anyone who uses this to invest in a cheap paddling pool to use to catch the water as it is really very strong. The only downside to this product is it doesnt have a on/off switch. Consequently when you plug it in it starts. As this is a very strong pump I would advise you invest in a foot switch attached to the power input. Dont fix one onto the unit as this could invalidate the warranty.

good unit for fibreglass ponds
good unit for fibreglass ponds, i can only fault it on design, 1. unit has no on/off switch so if you are using on your own it's a problem (simple answer get a remote controlled plug and carry transmitter) 2. dirt etc is sucked through motor i small stone and unit siezes and you have to strip unit to remove (logic says if the makers were to make a small box attachment to the tools or motor and supplied a pre hoover bag to fit, foreign objects would not pass through, otherwise a good unit albeit a little clumbersome.

Great for the price
With the vacuum machine at the front, its a but weighty to use. Its a pity there's no on/off switch on the device, it has to be switched off at the plug. Great suction and did a great job, but if you remove the nozzle from the water, and return it, it doesn't continue to suck water, curiously enough. Nozzle must be submerged and the device switched off and back on. Easily assembled and disassembled to store neatly, taking up so little space. Overall, I'm very pleased with the job it did.

Lasted One Month
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! I used it to clean my pond once. When I got it out to vacuum again one month later, it wouldn't turn on. Also, I purchased this from Amazon AU, yet it was sent with a Euro plug - WTF. The vacuum has no switch on the unit, so every time it clogged (which was often) I had to race back to the wall to turn it off.

Finger weg - totaler Schrott
