In this fractured fairy tale, Jack and Jill have the magic beans and Humpty Dumpty, with the aid of Kitty Softpaws, convinces his old friend Puss in Boots to help him steal the beans so they can climb the beanstalk to get to the golden eggs. Never mind that Humpty Dumpty and Puss in Boots had a falling out years ago, or that Jack and Jill are completely preoccupied by their squabbling over whether or not to have a child--and regardless that Puss in Boots is a wanted cat who's sworn off his thieving ways, and Kitty Softpaws is a cat burglar who works alone. Comedy abounds in this film, not only in the twists and turns of some classic fairy tales gone awry, but with scenes that range from a litter-box dance fight between crowds of cats to Jack expressing his paternal instincts by strapping on a baby carrier filled with a piglet in a diaper, and, of course, Puss in Boots' crafty use of his famous sad eyes to get just what he wants. The animation is top-notch (especially in the mass cat scenes), the music is compelling, and the voice talents of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zack Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton, and Amy Sedaris are solid. While considered by some to be a prequel of sorts to the four Shrek films, Puss in Boots is definitely a stand-alone spinoff. What the films do share is a common comedic interpretation of some well-known fairy-tale characters and knack for spinning a funny story that appeals to both kids and adults. While a heightened sense of peril and some extended fight scenes may prove a bit intense for the youngest and most sensitive audience members, Puss in Boots is generally appropriate for ages 7 and older. --Tami Horiuchi Way before he ever met Shrek, the legendary Puss in Boots goes on a heroic journey, teaming up with mastermind Humpty Dumpty and the street-savvy Kitty Softpaws to steal the famed goose that lays the Golden Eggs. Review: Colourful animation fun! - I first took an interest in this movie, not because it was a spin-off from the Shrek franchise, but because it was to do with cats. I wanted to finally see a computer-animated as opposed to just cartoon movie that treated the subject of cats in a new and appealing way. Walt Disney's 'Aristocats' was a bit dated by now, you see. I saw this movie advertised and decided I wanted to see it, but I missed it on the big screen cinema so the next best thing was to wait for the pre-ordered DVD to arrive from desertcart. It arrived as promised, and believe me I wasn't disappointed. It lived up to and possibly surpassed expectations. I was not expecting it to be like a fairy-story with swashbuckling animated character to boot, until I was reminded of his role in Shrek. I have only seen one Shrek movie, the first, so knew little about the character, but for me this did it. Everything about it is beautiful, romantic, daring and adventurous and this is now one of my favourite movies of all time-near the top of the list. I would recommend it as a present to anyone who likes animated movies. It is both endearing and enduring, a real charmer. I should know because it had me engrossed from the start. My mother shall be its next convert this Easter, I believe. I cannot recommend it highly enough! Review: Fun Movie With Fabulous Music Score! - I bought this at Xmas to provide some entertainment since the television companies don't seem to make that much of an effort these days, i was aware of the character from the Shrek sequels and was looking forward to viewing it on my new 60 inch 3D television, it comes supplied with a nice slipcase cover and the packaging actually looks really cool. The film itself was great, very inventive script, fabulous music score that stays in your head for weeks after you watch the movie, Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek were on fine voice form and there was amazing use of depth to the 3D image, there was also a couple of good pop out moments although not that many, this film is more about 3D depth than pop out, nonetheless i enjoyed it's use of 3D. I think children and adults can enjoy this film and i am looking forward to the announced sequel, i thought about knocking a star off because i think it could be sold cheaper but then i remembered that it is cheaper than many PIxar 3D titles so i decided to just call it 5 stars. P.S. Don't forget to watch the animated short, The Three Diablos, it's part of the extra content and its also in 3D and very entertaining.

Great cat great film!
This is a lovely entertaining film for any cat lover. They could not have made better choices for the actors whose voices they use for the characters. Puss in boots himself has a great attitude and goes from a frightened little orphan to a brave and courageous character. The naughty characters get their just desserts and it has a happy ending. Great stuff.

Fab!
Haven't watched the DVD yet, it only arrived a few hours ago. I love the Shrek films, and Puss in Boots is my favourite character. So now he has a story of his own. Perfect (purrfect - sorry, couldn't resist) to add to my Shrek DVDs, all arrived in excellent condition, very pleased with my purchase, thank you, great service.

The legend of the puss in the boots
Ah ha! With the Shrek franchise having run it's natural life, you might have thought you would have seen the last of the characters from it. But that was not the case. With Dreamworks animation looking to see if any of the supporting characters from Shrek might be worthy of a movie on their own, there was only one logical choice. And thus Puss in Boots is back. In a movie that takes place some unspecified amount of time before his first appearance in Shrek Two. The film sees him in the position he was in back at the start of his first film in that. A sword for hire. And one with a past. One which comes back to haunt him when a cat burglar called Kitty Softpaws drags him into a get rich quick scheme. Which puts them up against two outlaws. And a figure from Puss's past. Can he save the day, get the money and the lady, and redeem himself at the same time? Styled like a cross between a spaghetti western and a Zorro movie at first, this gets both styles exactly right from the off. The attention to detail in the animation and the character design is very impressive. It gets more into fairytale territory as it goes along. It does have the Shrek style of slighty twisted versions of traditional fairy tales - bringing us Jack and Jill as a pair of hillbilly bandits. And it's not laugh out loud a minute funny, all occasional bits of humour coming out of character interaction. Kitty Softpaws, despite good work from Salma Hayek with the voice, and her natural chemistry with Antonio Banderas, isn't quite the strongest of characters, but that's only a minor complaint. One thing this does have in it's favour though is an excellent score, music in the style of the setting, and one that should have you tapping your feet as you go along. It doesn't break new ground, but it takes a great character and puts him in an entertaining escapade of his own, and it's a lot of fun all in all. Here's hoping for a sequel. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options: Languages: English. Subtitles: English. It's also English audio captioned. The disc begins with several trailers but you can skip these via either the menu or the next buttons on the dvd remote control. All these trailers can be seen amongst the extras as well. Some in the previews section, and some in the world of Dreamworks animation section. The latter gives you the chance to see music and/or clips or related items from five other Dreamworks movie. Such as an advert for the How to Train your Dragon live show. Which can also be seen via the main dvd menu. Only other extras are three deleted scenes. These are animated storyboards rather than cgi animation but they do have music and sound and dialogue and a short introuduction to each from a producer of the film. They can be watched individually or all in a row. If doing the latter they last for six minutes in total. There is also a rather cursory eight minutes long making of the voice track for the movie feature. This is laden with clips from the film, but the other parts, showing the actors and work and being interviewed, are quite good.

Very Enjoyable Movie!
Despite thinking this would be a little inferior to Shrek, I found it to be as good, if not better than Shrek! The storyline is very good, the charactors are very funny & whitty, & the animtion is superb! The main charactor of this films of course is "Puss In Boots", he steals the show all the way through, he is always making you laugh many a time through this movie. The action sequences are amazing! The animation combined with the fantastic storyline and the humor make for one of the best family animated movies around! This film is not to be missed! Now on to the product its self: The film comes in a standard blu-ray box with three editions of the film. Blu-ray, DVD & a digital copy. Each edition coms in useful a lot. The Blu-ray is obviously the main version which contains masses of extras pluss amazing picture quality! DVD is useful for if you want to take it to a friends house or to watch on a portable DVD player, but the picture quality is obviously not as good. And the digital version is a nice addition too, you simply insert the DVD copy into your PC or Mac, a screen will come up, then you enter the code that is included inside the box. Then you select weather you want to use iTunes or Media Player, then within secconds its saved to your computer & ready to watch any time without a disc! The only flaw with it is that it is only DVD quality, but nevertheless, its a nice touch! I reccomend this to anyone who is looking for an entertaining, fun family film! Hope you too enjoy it!

Wonderful Fun!
I saw Puss In Boots at the cinema and it really was fantastic family fun! I bought the DVD because on Amazon one day it happened to be going new for only a few pounds so I decided this was an opportunity I couldn't miss; and I'm glad I bought it. The movie itself is extremely funny and clever in places - something the older audience will pick up on - and it's just such a light and enjoyable movie. The service was excellent, the price low, the condition immaculate and the movie...need I repeat myself? All in all a great buy and a great movie

Great for its target age range
Watched this with my family and we all laughed at least four times, the kids laughed much more. If you are looking for a film that will keep the kids entertained while being reasonably entertaining for the parents then you could do a lot worse than Puss in Boots. Antonio Banderas has the perfect voice for Puss, and the other voice actors are well cast too. The triple play is means that we have covered all the bases for repeat viewings, with the process for copying the digital copy to iTunes being particularly painless. It doesn't tie up your broadband either as it copies the film from the disk rather than from an on-line copy like some digital copies do.
