Does the mattress fold up with this bed?

Yes your mattress folds up against the wall with the bed, however when the bed is down there is a 10 inch gap between the wall and bed!

What is the packaging size? Does it come as self assembly?

Dear Ian, Thank you for taking the time to contact us. The packaging size of the Vertical King wallbed is 160cmx45cmx15cm. The wallbed comes in kit form, assembly is required, however it only takes basic DIY skill to assemble and fit our wallbeds and we also provide with step by step installation instruction videos. Please note, the wallbed has to be securely fixed either to the wall (concrete, brick wall) or to the floor (concrete, wooden floor) or both. What is the maximum thickness for the mattress? How does the matress stays attached to the Sprung slat support?

Not sure about maximum - but ours is 15cm at least and is not tight against the wall. Mattress held by single strap of webbing around the top part of the frame (when upright). It holds duvet and mattress in position whil vertical.

Is the mechanism noisy when putting the bed up or down?

Not at all if you don’t bang it on the floor, while pulling it down. Any hinge can squeak and a drop of oil will fix this. We are very happy with this product. It is an excellent bed, far superior to any sofa clndertible and will take any mattress
