I was advised by a firefighter that the older square blocks caused many a fire (as they fall partly out under the weight of plugs) and that it is better to use this sort of extender. I purchased this one as I needed to add a WIFI extender to a single socket and needed to keep another item plugged in and was planning to have one socket spare. As with many such items space is not allocated between the sockets to allow for the width of items such as chargers, WIFI extenders, doorbell receiver, air fresheners etc. They are really only designed for a standard plug and even a slightly larger plug can cause the space for the next item to not be able to fit. In this regard, I have had to place the two items at either end with the central socket therefore being unusable. Hopefully in time manufacturers will become wise to the need to have more space between the plugs to allow for the larger items to be managed. NB: I do have a more expensive version that does give more space for the wider items. In this instance it serves the purpose but can only manage two items and not three as ideally hoped. As before though, this is a safer option that a square box type, plus it does not stick out as much.
