Extremely effective
This product has really helped me. I have been a nail/skin biter my entire life and it's a disgusting habit I've always wanted to change but found difficult as I bit my nails as a coping mechanism. As soon as I started using this product from day one I completely stopped. The taste is so bitter it really does put you off putting your finger anywhere near your mouth. The bottle is small but lasts a very long time as you only need to really apply it once every 4 days or so and even a small amount per nail will work. It does have a couple of downsides but easy to deal with. First is that I'm a man and it does make your nails a little shiny which is embarrassing but if you apply it the night before it should dull while you sleep and be more discreet. Secondly if you cook or eat with your hands you will get the taste on the food/in your mouth so make sure to use utensils where you can or get (disposable) gloves that are suitable for food handling. Overall though I still give the product full 5* since it is very effective at what it's advertised to do.

Works well!
Got this for my husband and it worked so well. It lasted a few days in his nails as well as the taste which helped him to stop biting his nails. Also made eating finger food a but tricky as couldnt lick fingers without getting the taste in his mouth but was all worth it.

Perfect
I’ve been biting my nails since I was 7 years old. I take medication for anxiety, and I’ve tried using fake nails, but since I didn’t have a proper base to stick them on, the glue caused an allergic reaction. My fingers became itchy and developed pus, so I didn’t know what else to do. This is the first time my nails have grown long enough to reach the tips of my fingers. This product, despite being unpleasant, works amazingly well. Even after washing my hands multiple times a day, taking showers, and scrubbing my hair with shampoo and conditioner, the product stays on. It’s incredibly bitter—very, very bitter. The smell is typical for nail polish. I absolutely loved this product

Great product
This is the only product that helped me grow my natural nails. The bitter taste is absolutely horrible and there was no way I could bite my nails.

STOP !!
Much better and more effective than the version many years ago. Bitter taste is very effective, but leaves a nice shiny coat, so nails look better whilst growing. Taste lasts for days, even with handwashing but can be removed with varnish remover !!!

Best nail biting preventer I have used!
This stuff really helped me stop biting my nails. Then I ran out and after a month or so the habit crept back in, with some stress, anxiety etc in life, so I ended buying some different stuff for some reason - it was rubbish, it didn't stop me biting at all! S o I've just ordered more of this. Straight away my fingers come to my mouth and instantly get taken away as it tastes so bad. I highly recommend this for nail biters everywhere. Update - I'm now on my third purchase of this stuff, as soon as I run out after a while the habit starts to creep back, one application of this and no biting for 2-3 days for me.

IT WORKS!!
I've been a biter for 45 years or so. To the point where I remove 90% of the nail. It's unsightly, sore and now because of covid, dangerous. So, I need to stop. This product has some really good reviews, so I decided to give it a go..... It works..!! I'm actually growing finger nails.. I've been using it for about 3 weeks. However, couple of days ago I had a relapse. This stuff lasts for about 3 days even with hand washing, bathing, washing up etc etc, so I got a little lazy and didn't apply every day as I had been. So, apply every day, its part of the deterant. If you get this stuff in your mouth it's tastes vile. As it should, but, the taste stays in your mouth for a long time. It taints everything, food, water, tea, everything. The only down side for me is this, it taints everything you touch too. I know that I bite the skin around my fingers too. So I painted the whole of the front of my fingers. But, it transfers to anything even remotely moist ie, sandwiches, fruit, crisps, even pistachio nuts.

Awful taste, but my 3 year old manage to overcome this within a day
We have tried one other product and had some success with it, but then something happened in nursery and my 3 year old decided that she will go back to sucking her thumb. We left it a while and then tried this product. Its clear that the taste is awful, but it doesnt last as long for us as for other people (we had to apply it twice a day to have any effect). My daughter however quickly realised that if she sucks her thumb and doesnt swallow the saliva, she doesnt feel the awful taste. So she spits it out and puts her thumb back in :( I would definitelly give this product a shot if you are trying to stop nail biting/ thumb sucking.

I cannot tell you enough how much this stuff saved me. My 3 year old lets me put it on his thumb. It’s fast drying and immediately he has stopped sucking his thumb! It tastes awful lol. If you have a thumb sucker I 100% recommend this. I still use it every 4 days or so just for a month to make sure he doesn’t return to his habit.

I've had a nail biting issue since I was 4 years old- I turn 32 here in less than a month so for almost 30 years I've been contending with this. I've tried all kinds of cures under the sun to stop my habit but this problem was deeper than something of a simple 'habit'. For anyone reading this review and thinking of this product to stop a serious, chronic habit- I want to recommend a few things. If you struggle with anxiety as many nail-biters do, consider visiting your doctor, a therapist, even a psychologist. Nail-biting is a symptom, not the problem. Part of the reason I'm finally able to tackle this is that I'm not only using this product to deter me but I have now been on an anti-anxiety medication for a few months prior. This has made me far more capable in terms of trying to take these OCD habits by the horns and work them out. You need management skills, to understand antecedents to your behaviors, and how to modify those situations. So ending your nail-biting habit if anxiety related might take more than a simple paint on product. Secondly, it states to use it once every other day. I use it almost every day - and become rather aware when the taste is fading and make note to keep coating it on. It's working great, my nails are the longest they've EVER been, and I'm thoroughly happy even if the taste of this stuff is completely rancid. (Aka- it does the job it's supposed to). Keep the bottle somewhere visible and where you frequently have your line of vision (but obviously away from children). For me, I set it next to my monitor screen. I'm on my computer daily - so I'm bound to notice it being right there. Don't let it go out of sight, out of mind. KEEP your nail clippers handy! Even if it seems easier just to bite or peel away an uneven bit of nail, you'll spare most of it by just clipping off those rough edges. Sounds like common sense, I know. But anyone with an OCD habit for nail-biting understands what this refers to and how much of a 'trigger' those rough nail edges are. Keep all these things available, Next, I also take Biotin. It's a supplement- you can get it from any kind of drug store or Wal-Mart, etc. Read the bottles carefully, make sure you grab the one-a-day variety. You don't want to have to pop 3 of these a day to get your recommended dosage. Biotin helps improve nail strength- and many chronic nail biters I know have flimsy nails. Mine are definitely stronger - and my hair! So double benefit. Mavala Stop has definitely been the best product I've found for deterring my nail biting. This stuff is foul and will even be obvious if you put food in your mouth with your fingers like... eating french fries might be a chore. Just a heads up. Which is good! Sometimes having our hands near our mouths like that is an unintentional antecedent. Try to use forks and spoons for your food as much as possible. Good luck!
