Rich colours.
I had the original Philips LivingColors remote controlled lamp, and this is a nice evolution of the concept. It's very small, especially compared to that model, but feels robust. I'm not sure what it's made of, but it feels almost ceramic - solid, dense, and well made. It's quite bright, but dimmer than most of the other Hue lights. However, this lamp occupies a useful place in the ecosystem, as unlike the lightbulbs, it is capable of producing true greens and pale blues, which they are not (note, the lightstrip can do both, but is more expensive). This lamp cannot, however, produce the range or brightness of white light that the bulbs and lightstrip can. So if you want accent colours, this is a good choice - if you want white light, or something to read by, this would not be suitable. *Update* With the release of the 'Richer Colors' (3rd generation) Hue bulbs, this lamp has become mostly redundant, as those are brighter than the Bloom, and produce the full range of colours (including rich blues and greens) *as well as* bright white light (cool to warm shades). It is therefore better value (given Bloom is around the same price as 1 bulb) to put a Richer Colors Hue bulb into an existing lamp than buy this product.

A great start to our Hue home!
We purchased it some time ago, but just installed it recently. Although it looks small, the light is quiet powerful and is able to colour a wall or fill a normal sized room with background light easily. This was our first Philips Hue product and it was super easy to connect it to the bridge and just as easy to control! The app is very useful, you can set different scenes and colours, also it was very easy to connect to Siri. (I imagine it will be just as easy to connect to Alexa, but she is still packed away as we just moved). Haven’t got around to test all functions yet, but so far very happy with it as a background light. Excited to try out how it works with music/movies. We got a £60 bundle deal for the bridge and for the light from the Treasure Truck earlier, which was worth it, but if you only want to use the Hue system for this light, that comes out fairly expensive. Based on this light, I’m very happy with the Hue system and will be switching more lightbulbs around the house!

PRICEY BUT POWERFUL
If you are considering the Philips Hue system, you will already know that it is not cheap. However, what you do get are quality devices that are easily controlled from your phone or tablet. We use this as a bedside table lamp - plenty bright enough to read by. Do we use the colour change facility often? No, but move the lamp elsewhere in the house, and we know that we can. That, I suppose, sums up the Hue system - pricey to buy into, but once you’ve taken the plunge, it is the best.

Great lamps
Been putting off buying these bulbs as I know I would just want more. Now I’m hooked. Linked up to Alexa using the hub (bought separately) these bulbs are slightly pricy however they are more than worth it. The hue app is very user friendly and has some great functions. You can set the lights to come on as you drive into the drive way and switch off when you leave the house. The disco app is incredible. I plan on filling every room with these bulbs. If you are thinking about it trust me just go for it. They pay for themselves in the long run from running costs. Definitely recommend Have these set up behind the tv and they give off an amazing backlight effect. Great for corners and up-lighting effects

Don't think that this is anything other than accent lighting.
If you're looking for a cheap alternative to buying Hue bulbs outright, then these sort of are, sort of not, and sort of a lot less than the main bulbs. I know they are not advertised as a 'Hue lamp', per se, but they really are accent lighting; plain and simple. The unit is a lot smaller than you think it's going to be and the unit feels really well made. There is a tiny design issue that is easily rectified -- it needs another cable notch in the base, to enable it to be pointed either way without wrapping the cable around it. At the moment it is just designed to have the cable come out of the base at the front (i.e. the direction of the bulb face.), instead of letting you point it in either direction. But that's me being niggly. The cable could have been longer (at 2 - 2.5m long) but again, it's not a huge deal. The amount of light is decent, for such a small unit, but the bulb isn't as flexible in colours displayed as the main bulbs. There are certain recipes that this won't work in. Which is a shame but not the end of the world. Pairing and adding it into my system was easy, no issues then or since. At the current reduced price of 40GBPs, it's worth it if you're looking to add some colour to your room.

Mood lighting
This links with the Philips Hue Hub to allow a mood colour in your room, it is not bright enough to illuminate the room alone but will provide a colour to a corner or a glow from behind your television. It was very easy to setup, login to the Hub account and search for new lights. You are able to pick pretty much any colour you wish and choose how bright you wish it to appear. I have mine behind my TV where it is set to a warm yellow colour (turning on at dusk and off at a set time), I use my Harmony remote to control it so that on turning the TV on the light reduces in brightness to 50%, turn the TV off and it goes back to 100%.

Expensive but worth every penny
Although expensive if you have already invested in the Hue system this is a must purchase! i have it placed behind my TV which then fills the full wall with whatever vibrant colours i choose, or late evening i can turn to an orange/yellow colour and dim the other lights to make it feel all warm and cosy. They are not as bright i would say as the normal bulbs but do fill a full wall with colour and the colours seem much more vivid then the normal bulbs, but i suppose this is its purpose not to make the room light but to cast colours, which it does this brilliantly. It feels a very quality product made of a kind of pot rather than plastic too.
