I recently purchased the Seagate BarraCuda Internal Hard Drive HDD and I must say that I am impressed with its performance. The hard drive is easy to install and offers excellent value for money. I have been using this HDD without any bad sectors, and it works perfectly. This Drive is designed to provide reliable and fast performance for your PC, whether you use it for gaming, music, video, photo editing, or any other computing task. This HHD works just as expected. It’s easy to install if you know what you’re doing and know your way around the inside of your PC. It’s very good quality which is why I love Seagate. It is quite heavy but that didn't cause any problems for me. It’s worth the price, with stuff like this it’s better to not go for the cheap stuff and go with a trusted brand. Overall 10/10 and i recommend.

Just as expected

I will start off by saying that the drive I received is a 4TB Seagate drive and does (after a full format and surface test) seem to work fine. S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics report the drive as "GOOD." However it was manufactured in May 2015 and has been used/powered on for 32,826 hours which is 3.75 years. The drive is a Seagate "Skyhawk" Surveillance drive model: ST4000VX000, with a quoted MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of 1,000,000 hours. So, all being well, I could expect to have about 967,172 hours or 110 years of use out of it before it dies. For the price I paid this seems reasonable. However, it wasn't clear to me on Amazon (which may be down to me not reading things thoroughly) that I was purchasing a similar or equivalent drive to the BarraCuda, rather than an Amazon customer returned "like new" BarraCuda drive. If that is the case I think the seller could make make this clearer to customers. I sincerely hope the drive lasts for many years to come. However, if I do need to purchase a replacement from Amazon I will be paying very close attention to any 'returned', 'used' or 'like new' offers that might appear.

I purchased this 8TB drive as a backup volume to replace a dying 4TB Seagate drive. It arrived earlier than estimated, well packaged, via Royal Mail, requiring a signature. The drive seems to be a good basic model. Inspection with SeaTools and CrystalDiscInfo found no problems and verified that it was brand new. It came pre-partitioned in NTFS into 2.1 and 5.1 TB sections (7.2TB is all the usable space on any 8TB disc when it is formatted, alas), but it was two minutes work with the freeware version of AOEMI Partion Assistant software to make it one large volume as I wanted (lots of other free software is also available and would presumably have done the same as well). I wanted this drive to work on an old 32-bit Windows XP operating system, and as many people have discovered, XP can't see hard drives bigger than 2.1TB. However, in the old days Seagate (and others) got round that by including a cunning little chip in the "bridge" hardware in their external hard drive cases that fooled XP into thinking that 4MB clusters were 512K clusters and, well, short version is it allowed XP systems to see bigger volumes - like my 4TB drive that was failing. So I swapped out the old 4TB drive inside that Seagate case with my new 8TB one, using the same bridge, and... hey, presto, my XP system is happy with its new 8TB (well, 7.2TB) hard drive! I empahsise that this would only be possible using that generation of drive cases pre about 2016 that includes the little wonder chip. I'm hoarding mine like gold dust. This trick with that bit of tech should theoretically let XP see drives up to just under 17TB. Anyway, so far I'm very satisfied with this purchase, which came promptly and did everything a budget large hard drive is supposed to do.

I'm very pleased with this 8TB HDD so far. It's set up as a single-drive Raspberry Pi4B NAS under my TV for storing movies, music, photos, and backing up other important files from my main PC across wired Gigabit Ethernet. Small file write speeds are a little slow as would be expected for an SMR drive, but large files can be written or read across the network at speeds that easily saturate the Gigabit connection even with the drive ~70% full. If you're familiar with the potential shortcomings of an SMR drive and don't see them as a significant downside for your use case, I'd highly recommend this one as it's also great value for money and very quiet in operation.

I've had 5 of these drives since early 2020, and the last one has just failed with an abnormal power supply issue. The others all failed for a combination of bad sectors and disk errors that caused my Synology NAS system to reject the drives. Whilst I did plenty of research on cost per GB + reliability + compatibility (these came out top) prior to purchasing these drives, and have had good results of with older Seagate models in other systems, I'm now very disappointed in this drive and manufacturer. I would highly recommend you look at the Toshiba N300's which have I have been using successfully for (18 months for the oldest so far) to replace these drives as they have failed. Out of the first 4 I bought to fill my DS920, one failed within a few days, so I bought a 5th as a quick replacement whilst I began the warranty replacement process (always slow). That ended up being refunded rather than replaced, and drive prices being volatile, it had gone up in price by £50 between buying and being refunded - so the seagate warranty of a like for like replacement was a joke from the start. Special disreputable mention is reserved for CCL Computers. 3 of the 5 drives were bought via Amazon from them. When it came time for those drives to fail and be replaced - the first was refunded, eventually, not replaced as Seagate's warranty claims; the second suffered an administrative mixup (two drives had failed in a similar time frame but from two different suppliers) where I checked with them in advance about the serial number of the drive that had failed (which I thought was theirs) and they said to send it to them, only for them to later decide that I'd mixed up suppliers and the failed drive I'd sent them wasn't one of theirs. It was eventually returned and the other failed drive (that was one from them) was sent on (over two weeks wasted on that). Over a week after getting the correct drive they declare that be working fine and thus returned it again - only for my DS920 to reject it in short order (the Toshiba drive it was then replaced by has been working fine for three months now in that same bay, so not the NAS at fault). This last drive to fail is also from their batch - ironically a month after its two year warranty has expired. Side note, the above drive that wasn't from CCL was apparently taken out of another OEM system and sold on via a retailer on Amazon (as a new, warrantied drive). It wasn't until it failed and I ran the serial number through the Seagate Warranty checker that I discovered this. However, praise for Amazon support here, we attempted to contact the supplier, but because they didn't respond within a week, Amazon refunded the money for the dead drive themselves. This drive had developed >1200 bad sectors before it finally dropped out of the NAS volume. Upshot of all this, 5 Seagate Barracuda 8Tb drives bought from 3 different suppliers on Amazon, all died within 25 months, and only about half the cost of replacing them recovered. I'm also thinking that the I in RAID is perhaps a tad misleading at these capacities and costs! ;-) Buyer beware with this brand and model (and suppliers!)

Great Product, Good Price. The next best alternative to an SSD or SSHD(SSHD drives are not really my thing). If you plan on using the drive to just store small files get the 5400rpm drive. Otherwise, if you're planning on installing and running any applications get the 7200rpm drive (assuming you've no SSD). It really makes a difference. I own both a 5400 drive and a 7200 drive. I notice a major bottleneck with the 5400 rpm drive when running applications. This is a rare occurrence with the 7200 drive. Most CPUs are so fast these days the bottlenecks will tend to appear during the read and writes from the drive when working with a file. While bottlenecks do occur with this drive they are very minimalistic. I am running a AMD FX8350, 8gb RAM, GTX 770, Windows 10 Pro. The password screen appears in under 8 seconds(avg 5) and the machine is fully booted and able to run any application in around 20 - 25 seconds. A small note though is if you're using a nvidia graphics card with this drive. You should really opt for an SSD as nvidias Geforce Experience uses quite a lot of Read and Write time and you may find a bottleneck when running that program. This is the only application that I use that I would need an SSD. I should also state that I don't have a SSD in my machine and to be honest I don't really miss it. This drive far exceeded my expectations. It is also fairly quiet. Far quieter then my other branded 5400 rpm drive.

Fatta questa permessa passiamo alle impressioni su questo hard disk. Intanto il primo elemento che mi ha colpito è il form factor, molto compatto e molto leggero, non sembrava nemmeno un 3,5" mentre lo tenevo in mano. Ci troviamo di fronte ad un HDD ad alte prestazioni, ma pensato per l'utente medio. Prestate attenzione che essendo un 3,5" pollici NON può essere inserito nei portatili, ma solo in PC fissi oppure nelle apposite case per Hard Disk. Ma andando più nel dettaglio tecnico, i 7200rpm portano a questo prodotto un gran vantaggio in termini di velocità, grazie alla rapida rotazione del disco, ma lo costringono d'altro canto, o ad essere attaccato ad una fonte di alimentazione diversa dall'USB (nel caso di inserimento in un case), o altrimenti di essere installato all'interno di un PC. Il mio test è del primo caso, quindi le prestazioni riportate nello screen possono risultare inferiori a quelle di un collegamento diretto al PC tramite cavo SATA. Il risultato è soddisfacente con un casuale in scrittura fino a 125MB/s. Per il test ho utilizzato un Macbook Pro con processore i5 da 2,6GHz e porte USB 3.0 e l'applicazione XBench Quindi se volete rifarvi alla mia recensione e quindi ad un utilizzo come hard disk esterno in un case per HDD vi consiglio questo prodotto. Per un utilizzo all'interno del PC consiglierei invece di mettere mano al portafoglio e di pensare già all'acquisto di un SSD.

Contrairement à ce que j’ai pu lire sur le site pour d'autres Seagate, le disque dur est arrivé en excellent état, il était parfaitement emballé et protégé. Il fonctionne à merveille, très rapide et très silencieux. Concernant aussi d’autres commentaires qui se sont plaints d’avoir reçu des disques Seagate de plusieurs To sur lesquels il ne restait plus que quelques centaines de Go, il faut savoir, que la plupart du temps ce n’est pas le disque qui est en cause mais la capacité maximum du stockage interne prévue d’origine à l’intérieur de la machine. Cela m’est arrivé avec le Seagate. La solution est de brancher le disque dur sur une autre machine qui n’est pas bridée, de le formater et de le partitionner. Cette manipulation permet, aussi, de voir si le disque dur est abîmé ou pas. Dans mon cas c’était bien mon ordinateur qui était bridé à 2 To de capacité interne et non une mal fonction du disque dur.
