Burg Wachter Spring Loaded Adjustable Auto Closing Door Closer - Home & Commercial – Black

I bought this to replace a garden gate spring that I bought from B&Q that exploded into bits as I tried to fit it to the gate. That was utter junk.This gate closer is far higher quality and I wish I had gone for this originally. The packaging says that the spring mechanism is weather proof and can be used outside. You need a certain level of strength to set the spring without breaking your fingers.WARNING: the piece of plastic that is intended to be used as guide for the spring bar is not compatible with WD40 and probably not other solvents. After I fit the spring, I thought I'd spray a little WD40 on the guide to ease the sliding of the bar. The result was that the plastic guider went brittle, cracked and fell apart. No worry though - I just replaced it with a metal plate for the bar to slide on and all works fine. Probably better.

Ditch the screws and use your own. The screws supplied are awful in quality and the head came off most of them. The door closer is working really well after a few months.

Purchased Oct 25 - now July 26 the outer casing for this has cracked and split so internal spring is exposed and non functioning and so no longer effective to do what it is intended to do. Used on a garden gate - which it mentions in the description that it is suitable for, but obviously not.Was really impressed by it and it did a great job but obviously not robust enough for a garden gate use long term.

Simple to fit, very effective and good value

Did not close the gate properly slammed shut and sprung back open only to close very slowly and sadly remain ajar enough for my dog to he able to escape if it was out there. And then thr springs inside seem to have snapped while trying to adjust tension after a ping noise was heard while adjusting now doesnt do anything

Exactly what was needed on the garden shed door, fitted in minutes, no adjustments needed. Extremely easy, does not look out of place. Arrived on time too.

Works but creaky.Bought to replace the 25+ year old one I’d had on the cloakroom door after spring failed.Very easy to fit decided to use the old already there runner.Only thing is there is a creaky/grinding noise when it opens and closes. I’ve tried adjusting but doesn’t make any difference. I can live with it but the wife is going to freak with her OCD. This is what prevents a 5 star review.

Worked for a few weeks. Not sure why it broke one day. Perhaps I was using it under too much tension.

Bought this doorcloser for an inner door.Not all the reviews are positive about the supplied screwsso i installed it with better screws just to be sure.The Guiderail is not long enough according to some but if you install the spring-unit close to the hinges it should be good.Tensioning is a bit off a fiddle if the door is sunk deep in its post.Then you can use a extra tensioning arm beside the one which is supplied, an 8x80 mm bolt will do the job.Used it one week sofar and i am happy with it.Seems simple and robust enough.....
