IDEAL | Rubik's Cube: The Original 3x3

I recently purchased the Rubik's Cube, and it's truly a classic and timeless puzzle that continues to captivate enthusiasts of all ages. Here's my detailed review with the pros and cons: **Pros:** 1. **Enduring Appeal:** The Rubik's Cube has maintained its status as the world's best-selling puzzle since its introduction in 1980. Its enduring appeal speaks volumes about its universal fascination and entertainment value. 2. **Addictive Challenge:** The multi-dimensional challenge posed by the cube is incredibly addictive. With over 43 quintillion possible moves, it provides a diverse and engaging experience for users, making it an excellent choice for individuals who enjoy brainteaser puzzles. 3. **Quality Construction:** The classic stickers have been replaced with durable plastic tiles, eliminating concerns about fading or peeling. This upgrade enhances the longevity of the cube and ensures a consistent and visually pleasing appearance. 4. **Improved Mechanism:** The Rubik's Cube now features a new mechanism that results in a smoother, faster, and more reliable solving experience. This enhancement adds a modern touch to the traditional puzzle, making it enjoyable for both beginners and seasoned solvers. 5. **Educational Value:** Beyond its entertainment aspect, the Rubik's Cube serves as an educational tool. It challenges users to enhance their problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, and strategic thinking. It's an excellent option for cognitive development, especially for individuals aged 8 and above. **Cons:** 1. **Learning Curve:** For beginners, there is a learning curve to mastering the cube's solving techniques. While this adds to the challenge, some users may find it initially frustrating. 2. **Limited Age Range:** Although suitable for ages 8 and above, the Rubik's Cube may be too complex for younger children. Younger users might require additional guidance and patience to fully enjoy and understand the puzzle. 3. **Solo Activity:** While solving the Rubik's Cube can be a rewarding solo activity, some users may prefer puzzles that allow for collaborative or competitive play. The solitary nature of cube-solving might not appeal to everyone. 4. **May Not Appeal to Everyone:** The Rubik's Cube, with its specific style of challenge, may not be everyone's cup of tea. Some individuals may prefer puzzles with different themes or gameplay dynamics. In conclusion, the Rubik's Cube remains an iconic and unparalleled puzzle, offering a unique blend of challenge, entertainment, and educational value. Its timeless appeal and recent improvements in construction make it a worthy addition to any puzzle collection. Whether you're a seasoned solver or a beginner looking for a rewarding challenge, the Rubik's Cube is a classic choice that continues to stand the test of time.

A few weeks ago I found an old Rubik's cube in a cupboard. I should have done the sensible thing and left it there but no, I had to have a go! After spending many hours on it my arms started aching because it was a bit stiff. As my wife had left me by this time I decided to buy a better one and this product seemed ok. The difference is amazing! This one is a joy to use. Lightweight and easy to twist. No aching arms! Amazing that even after all the years they are still as addictive. I can highly recommend this cube but please don't blame me when you are buying lasagne for one.

When my kids were younger( 20 years ago) they all had a Rubin cube and they loved them. Yes they were frustrated by it on occasions but with practice they could do them quite quickly. If you’ve never had a Rubin cube they work quite simply. The cube rotates at every level meaning you can mix up the colours and then try and get the colours back to blocks again. This original Rubin cube rotates easily and is a good size in your hand. When my kids were younger I used to only mix them a bit so they stood a chance of fixing it quickly then as they got better I mixed them on every level. It’s a great time filler and as our original cubes had long since gone I sent them all a new one to entertain them during lockdown. They were all thrilled. I would say these are suitable from age seven upwards to adults. A great little puzzle that’s stood the test of time.

I ordered this cube to replace my 1980s style original and was disappointed to find this a redesign, so I wrote a negative review. However, after some research it appears that the cube was redesigned to be more like the more-expensive speed cubes with a slick movement. Now, I am used to the stiff original so this redesign was an annoyance, and I think it could be better publicised. However after some practice, I was able to adapt my playing style and quite liked the new design. It is easier to turn and it tends to realign itself if the cubes are not perfectly aligned, but I still found it wobbly and loose and I wasted time in constantly lining the joints up. Basically it is trying to be like the more expensive speed cubes but at the fraction of the price. So great for a beginner or as a toy. I returned it and ordered the GAN cube at five times the price. I can't wait to see how it compares.

Great fun, I'm 58 and can still solve it, which drives my 17 year old mad, as she can't. Good build quality and I like the fact that the face of each cube section isn't a removable sticker. I purchased it on a whim as my daughter did not believe I was able to complete it, even though as a teenager (80s) I was one of the fastest in school to do it.

I bought this as a present for my Dad, and he keeps going back to it, even though he's only managed to do one side so far. I saw some reviews here which suggested the cube might be fake or come in different packaging. The cube I received came in the packaging shown in the item's photo and I believe it to be genuine. However if you get it off the Marketplace rather than sold directly by Amazon, you might run the risk of getting a knockoff. It has coloured tiles set into each cube piece, which is a better idea than the stickers that used to be used on these cubes, however a couple of the tiles had small plastic bits sticking up at the corners which I had to take off very carefully with a penknife. That said, the cube looks and feels sturdy and it has a nice turning action – it feels just as it should do. The triangular stand you can place the cube on when not in use is a nice touch. Despite the delicate operation I had to do on two of the tiles, I can't bring myself to mark it down from a justly deserved 5 stars.

Uhh... yeah. So it has colours and it works and stuff. Plus it's a topographical wonder of the modern age. Further to that it makes an adequate miscellany for any empty shelves you have lying around. Oh, and if you (or the person you are buying it as a present for) can actually solve it then it'll do as a party trick for the repertoire. One thing, google a guide for solving it before you buy the fancy block. click on a few links, and if everything is gobbledegook then consider whether this isn't a waste of money. If you can cope with the algorithms (fancy term re. rote learning several patterns) then you'll be just dandy with this. Seriously, it isn't hard you just need to memorise a few patterns. It's not like you need super einstein magic abilities to divine how to solve the damn thing. Let other people do that for their fancy 12 second solution videos. Just learn the pattern. Up, right, up, backwards-right, up, right, up, up, backwards-right. Blah blah blah. When you're actually holding it then it's just muscle memory.

It's a bog standard rubiks cube. you get what you pay for. Works fine for when you're learning and doing algorithms slowly, but once you've got the hang (for me it was around a week) you'll probably be looking to upgrade to a more premium cube. If i knew this initially I would've saved a little more and just bought a speed cube as my first choice because this is real clunky to turn now I've gotten fast. The price is for sure worth it though if you're just looking to casually solve it as a party trick.

Tolle Challenge
