This is only my 3rd bait casting reel, the other two are Silver Max's. So I only have one style reel to use as a comparison. I have to say, this Brutus by KastKing didn’t disappoint! It’s an amazing reel! When I wanted to get started using bait casters after only using spinning reels for the past 45 years, I was told not to get a cheap quality reel because I’d have trouble learning how to cast without getting lots of bird nests. But I didn’t want to get one that was so expensive if I didn’t like it. With that in mine, you’ll be very happy with the Brutus. It only took a couple of casts to get the brake and spool tension setup for the way I fish. After that, I was able to easily cast whopper ploppers and various crank baits with accuracy and distance. The reel was smooth, easy to setup and fun to use! If you're looking to get started into bait casters and don't want to spend a lot of money, this is a great reel to learn on. I even used it on a KastKing Royale fishing rod I use for my other bait caster! They made a great combination! I guess this means I'll be buying another Rod (from KastKing)!

I haven't used the reel yet, but it's smooth, light and attractive. However, I do own a similar Kastking model at a similar price point and it has been amazing. To be fair, I only use it for jigging for pike and musky so I never really cast it. In fact, the light weight and small size made it attractive to me because ounces add up if you're jigging all morning. Also, I love the IPT (inches per turn) as it's about 30 inches. That allows me to get tight in a hurry. Also, I've landed dozens and dozens of fish in the 35 to 48 inch range - haven't cracked 50 inches yet - and there's more than enough power and drag. In fact ater the hookset, I usually have to dial the drag back. For me, this is a great reel at a great price.
