why no ps4 dead space remake? seems unfair..

I believe it is because they wanted to fully utilise the power of the PS5 to make it look as good as it does. A PS4 version would have been too visually compromised to make it justify doing a remake. Plus there needs to be more PS5 only games to make it worth having the console.

Do i need to play any of the previous games?

No, it's the earliest game. There are other media entries though. The comic series is first, then there's an animated prequel film called Dead Space: Downfall, then the first game occurs. You'll be fine just starting with this though. It won't expect you to have read or seen the other stories.

Games seem to be quite glitchy? i'm on chapter 2 and there's a bit where every time i go into a lift it freezes at the bottom? really annoying

Try going back to a prior saved game. Check to ensure your physical disc is clean.
