What is worth noting here is that this is a new and wonderful translation by Adam Thorpe. Flaubert is not easy to translate, and the richness of his prose is a great part of the novel's charm as well as its tension in showing through a tragic and beautiful character rural France being pulled into the modern world. Emma Bovary has never been more pathetic, or empathetic, or beautiful. Thorpe's short introduction is worth the price by itself. Review: A very sad but well told story - I'd give this 4 1/2 stars, but can't figure out how to do a half. Poor Emma - she's not a bad person, just immature and a dreamer, but bad things result. Very well formatted Kindle book.
