Kenmore Elite 41002 4.5 cu. ft. Front Load Combination Washer/Dryer in White, includes delivery and hookup

I purchased this unit 3 years ago because it got great reviews and was rated as a top appliance in its category. Because we were spending so much on this unit, we decided to go ahead and purchase an extended warranty. I'm glad we did. After the first year, the entire electrical system shorted out. It took almost 2 months to get the unit repaired. After it was repaired, the machine seemed to work fine. Three or 4 months later, the pump stopped working. It was repaired. Six months later, the pump stopped working again. It was repaired. 6 month later, the pump stopped working again. I called the repair number and was given the runaround. I was told it wasn't covered. I contacted Amazon and they contacted Sears/Kenmore. In the meantime, I spoke with a customer representative and I was given the wrong number to call to escalate my situation. I called back and spoke with a different representative. I was given the wrong number again. I finally went online and was able to make an appointment. The issue seemed to be resolved. Recently, the dryer has stopped working again. I went online to make a repair appointment. I was told that they couldn't make an appointment since I had purchased the KENMORE extended warranty through Amazon. If they set up an appointment, I would be charged. I called the main repair number and was told the same thing. They transferred me to the Sears/Amazon Warranty specialist. They were nice and told me the unit was covered. They then transferred me to a technical specialist. He informed me that I was not in the right place and I would be charged if he made an appointment. After speaking with him, he asked to put me on hold. I said that was okay. Well, that was a mistake. I have now waited almost 10 minutes for someone to answer my call and it doesn't appear that anyone will pick up. I am absolutely sick of dealing with this "customer care." I have tried to get the unit replaced, but I keep getting the same message that they can only replace the unit if I have to have the same repair performed 3 times within the first year of purchase. If I were you, I wouldn't waste my money on this item or any Kenmore/Sears item.

EDIT: While I love the machine, It's dead now after only 7 months. Do not buy! Love the way it makes laundry easy, but a high price for 7 months of use. I have owned this washer/dryer for almost a month now and absolutely love it. As other have said, it's probably not a great choice for a big family, but with a little planning, a 1-4 person house hold is fine. I was hesitant on buying it due to some reviews on Amazon and I would like to address those: 1) I read it doesnt dry well. - I have had no issues with this. Dont overload it. Also, because it dries with steam, cloths "feel" like they make be a bit wet when you first reach into the dryer, but when you take them away from the steamy drum, they feel dry in seconds. I've even washed hallway rugs and had no issues. 2) It's easy to overload - Again, no issue. I have filed the drum half way up with heavy jeans and shirts and had no problem. The load did take 4.5 hours, but who cares? I didn't have to wait to move it from machine to machine! 3) Loads take a lot longer - Loads do take a bit longer, but because the machine is all in one, who cares? I put my cloths in before I go to bed, set the delay for about 4 hours, enable the "Keep Fresh" feature and like magic, the laundry is ready for me in the morning. Laundry does indeed take longer, but they require no attention from the user. With the delay timer and keep fresh, just plan a bit ahead and you will no longer have a "Laundry Day" at your house. Because it is ventless, there is almost no risk of fire, so I feel comfortable letting it run while I am at work. My laundry now does itself while I sleep or am at work. All in all, I love the washer/dryer combo and dont ever see going back to 2 separate machines. We did buy the pedastal to put it on, which is nice because of all the storage inside and the top of the machine does get hot, so I dont feel comfortable leaving anything on top of it.

We read reviews keeping an open mind needing this for a townhome and purchased to save space. Well, there was so much steam after i opened it i had to reach for my oven mitts, I DID. I can not stress enough you must read the whole manual for this product. I did not have the patience. I had to rewash shirts becuz they were totally wrinkled. I had a deodorant stain on my sweatshirt and well after spraying the stain, letting it sit, then washing I wanted to check on it, but the door was locked I couldn't pause the machine to release the lock and I guess it baked the stain onto fabric not to mention my husbands knee high socks turned to ankle socks. My friend mentioned it sounds more like an oven. The buttons were soo hot on shirts and jean zippers.. omgosh. I couldn't touch my clothes. If you have animals as we do, the smallest dog hair kind of bakes on the inside rubber part of tub. And yes we tried to clean it every wash but it was soo hot I felt like I was cleaning a hot oven. But really who has time to clean the rubber after every wash. We did lent roll our clothes before putting them into the wash but theres always some hair left. I hope this product works well for some but we definitely gave it a good 3 weeks and finally had to buy 2 separate units. The bottom drawer was excellent and served its purpose. Its sold separately. I would not recommend this washer/dryer combo unless you are fully committed in reading the manual. I wish someone could have showed me how to use it because I rewashed alot of clothes. They came out wet and had to line dry most on a portable cart. It saved time from switching clothes out into a dryer but to also find out a full load will not get dry enough. Also, I kept finding myself rewashing clothes in order to get the dryer to work. But some may not have this problem. The Amazon delivery guys were so polite and understanding. They did an amazing job and didnt scratch our trim like NFMart did. Would purchase from Amazon again. Amazon has great service!!

I have had this machine for about two months and I absolutely love it! First off, I need to make it clear, this machine's first duty is to save space. It is not for more than 1 or 2 people in a household. I can see how a family could use it, but they would have to completely change their way of doing laundry. You would have to do several small loads throughout the day, and use the programmed cycles so it can do its thing while you are at work or during the night. It can be done, this is a very smart machine. You just can't use it like a regular washer/dryer pair and expect it to get things done as quickly. The cycles are about 3-5 hours as long as you don't over load and don't over dry. I take blankets and other very heavy items to the laundromat. It is important to limit loads to not above the lower edge of the window in the door. It is also important not to over-dry the loads. It is true that at first, the items feel "damp." But they are not wet. The way the machine dries uses condensation, so they may not feel that "hot and dry" feeling like with a tumble dryer. All you need to do is take each item out and shake it smartly a few times and let it get to room temperature. It will feel dry then. If you dry items to the point where they feel "hot" I noticed that items will shrink, even if they were older items that should have done all of the shrinking. This is the reason I did not give it 5 stars - the issue with shrinking clothes when over-drying. There is a learning curve to use this machine, but once you get used to it, its great!

The unit works great. I have been using it for about a month with about a load a week. I am an pro athlete so most of my clothes are athletic and sport. The unit washes great using HE Tide or Costco Pods. Using the sport gears mode each time. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t set the dryer to automatically start after the wash cycle. I do highly recommend HE dryer sheets. The dryer has been working extremely well so far. No issues with drying a week worth of clothes with towels and a set of Kong’s bed sheets. Overall I am extremely please. The dryer does get hot so i usually leave the clothes in there for and other 30-60min to cool down with the door open. The smell clean and dry clothes embalme my condo afterwards and I love it! Ha Review above is a few years old. I still stand by it. This machine is amazing. No issues. It cleans and dries just like it was designed for. Some may need to change their habits since it functions slightly differently than the regular washer/dryer. Overall great value. I wanted to buy another for my new house but it’s discontinued. I have the LG now.

The main reason I purchased this dryer is the quick delivery and included installation costs. The two lost stars are entirely due to issues encountered during the installation of the machine. The machine itself, after being properly installed by a 3rd party plumber, works great. The first issue was that the delivery team showed up early (by an hour) for the appointment. Not really that big of a deal, but slightly annoying since I was out. The second issue was that the delivery team was unable to hook my dryer to the existing gas line in my house. The existing shutoff valve was 3/4", and they only had parts for a 1/2" valve. The product description needs to give technical installation requirements like this to avoid installation issues. The third issue was the hookup for the steam dry options. The delivery team brought the Y split with a short and long hose to connect the dryer. They refused to install it since I didn't provide a new long hose to connect the washing machine. Again, lack of documentation on the product page. For those who don't know, its best practice to not re-use washing machine hoses once they have been disconnected. In this scenario, the delivery team made the correct decision. The final issue is that the delivery team quickly left once they realized the gas and water could not be hooked up, and failed to install the exhaust tubing or test other functionality of the dryer. While my installation experience was bad, the machine itself works well and dries quickly. The only feature I haven't been able to test are the steam features, I'm still waiting on new hoses from Amazon. I'll update this review in a couple months to see how the machine has broken in.

The dryer is very slow to dry. The Amazon description does not tell you that you have to take half the clothes out after the wash cycle and dry them separately. That is not convenient and doubles the advertised time to do a load because the dryer takes most of the time. I thought the whole point was to set it and go and it would wash and dry. Also, EVERYTHING comes out very wrinkled. I do NOT recommend this product.
