Will this product seal a chrome shower caddy to prevent rust? ... or should I just purchase a stainless steel caddy?

In my case, so far so good with my shower caddy, which was treated with the Rust-Oleum product.

i am using this product on metal small animals cages with some rust. do i need to use a primer first?

If there is visible rust on the metal, you should use something like rust cure or some other phosphorus acid solution that will kill the rust before applying the paint. You could just spray it, but the rust will likely come back and cause the paint to peel off.

You put 10 dollar clear glue over a 300 dollar door knob?.... The fact that your handset can't survive without a cheap enamel is more worrisome. My 15 dollar Kwikset knob looks brand new after 7 years.
