Moonlight: The Complete Series (Corrected/DVD) Mick St. John is a captivating, charming -- and immortal -- private investigator from Los Angeles who defies the traditional bloodsucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. In a life-altering twist of fate, Mick was bitten 60 years ago by his then-new bride, the seductive Coraline. Forever 30 years of age, Mick is as handsome and charismatic as the day he was "turned," and he eschews others of his kind who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, including the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous Josef, a hedge-fund trader who relishes his uniqueness, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living, including beautiful, ambitious Internet investigative reporter Beth Turner. Review: One of the best action / romance / dramas I have ever seen ! - I first saw this show in 2007 on TV and I can say, honestly, that it was one of the best romantic / action dramas I have ever seen. It was really sad when they took it off after 16 episodes. But since then, it has become somewhat of a cult classic thru the DVD and instant video sales. When it was on TV, Moonlight's fans were really devoted, but there weren't enough of us to keep this fascinating drama on the air. Which is why Big Network TV is not doing so well these days. I would love to see desertcart pick this up, and make more episodes, but it HAS to have the O'loughlin / Dohring combination or it won't work. Although I find the concept interesting, I am not a 'Twilight' fan, or an 'ardent' fan of the whole vampire genre...but this show was on a whole 'nother level. And I am not into 'chick flicks' or syrupy romance ( action and adventure is really my thing ) But I can tell you guys that the relationship between Mick St. John ( O'Loughlin) and Buzzwire reporter Beth is something you will not soon forget. It made you believe, for an instant , that reality and fantasy can mix and dreams can come true ...wow, listen to me go on ! Alex O'loughlin made the whole series what it was...he has that lonely, tortured, sexy badboy-with-a-heart-of -gold thing down to a fine science...he isn't just handsome...there is something about him, his energy, his voice and the way he approaches any role he has been in...that is hypnotic and compelling. And he has taken those innate qualities of his to any current roles he is in, as well. And Mick's best friend, Josef, played by Jason Dohring, was also excellent, as a 400 year old vampire/ dot-com billionaire whose baby face and ruthless charm covers a lot of secrets. These guys were total catnip to any woman who crossed their path! The sets, the fascinating story line, the continuous action and pacing of the story, the characters, all were top notch....I can't say enough about this show. Check it out.....I promise you that if you watch one episode, you will be hooked ! Review: Best vampire... - Don't know why I still can't buy it streaming - but a DVD is better than nothing. Alex O'Loughlin before H5O - which was terrific too. But this was different and I couldn't wait till it was on each week. I still can't believe CBS cancelled it at one season, as it won the People's Choice for new show that year. Sure it's vampires - and a somewhat different take on them - but the stories were compelling and the acting was good - and Alex O'Loughlin was perfection as Mick. When it aired it was during the early years of Youtube and had literally thousands and thousands of tributes to it. And you could see over the years as it was translated and shown in other countries and the tributes then showed up in Spanish...French...German...Japanese...etc... So glad I found a good copy of an excellent show.

Best vampire...

I never forgot how much i loved this series
This was a real treat for me. I watched this when it debuted on TV around 2007. I was glued to this series as the quality of writing and acting just blew me away. It even won an Emmy for Best New TV Series. When it was cancelled due to the actors strike at that time, I couldn't believe it. BUT, Warner Bros. was smart enough to put this our as a DVD series and I just found it (didn't know it existed). I have to say that the main character played by Alex O'Loughlin is what made me love this series . . .what an exceptional actor and so good looking. Writing and all other actors were just as good. If you like Vampire series, you will not regret by this. . . .you're drawn to it like a magnet. Thanks for making me so happy!

Moonlight - only one season
I adore Mick St. John, Private Detective - vampire. I never caught all of the episodes, and I wanted to know everything that happened. I purchased this complete series. I've watched it many, many times. When they decided that they were not going to create another season due to the writer's strike, they wrapped the story line up with four additional episodes, at the end. There really should be more, but I am very happy that it plays like an original series. It has a beginning, introductions, get to know the characters; lots of action, and romance. And it ends, I suppose as well as it probably could end. Love the story, love the actors. Very well done. Mick St. John is, for me, a much more dimensional character than Jack McGarrett on Hawaii 5-O. Love Mick St. John. Hope this helps if you're on the fence about it - great day. K

Wasted potential
This show has long been compared to Forever Knight (and not favourably) by those old enough to remember said show. Well, I'm not old enough, but I have seen many seasons of Forever Knight (thanks to Netflix). It's hard to see how anyone could prefer it except for nostalgia. Yes, Forever Knight and Moonlight has many of the same storylines, so this is definitely a remake of sorts. However, writing is only part of it. The other big part, especially in a show like this, is how the actors connect with their characters, and Alex O'Loughlin and Sophia Myles definitely bring it to the table. The main actors on the show have gone on to be much better at their craft than we see them here (for example, Jason Dohring has always been a presence on screen, but his acting was not at his best here), but the combination of them here was just magic somehow. This is a vampire show, and it doesn't shy from that - Mick and Josef drink blood as we might drink water, and Josef drinks straight from the source, as it were. However, it does have a slick, urban detective edge that makes it more appealing for those in the audience who might not go for a heavy paranormal bent (a la Angel). There's a lot here for an audience to gravitate toward. On the surface, we have a crime drama - Mick is a detective, after all. There's also the romance between Mick and Beth, a romance many years in the making, as well as Josef's star-crossed tragedy. The big interests, though, are the characters of Josef and Mick - they have so much history, and the few glimpses we got are very intriguing, especially where Josef was concerned. Overall, this was and is a truly great show with great potential to be something special. Unfortunately, between this having not been around long enough to garner a loyal audience and the Writers' Strike, there was never a second season, and the TV landscape is definitely poorer for it, especially with all of the newly minted paranormal shows being geared toward the younger audiences, leaving those of us who have graduated from YA fiction looking for something with a little bit more edge and finding nothing. But that's the story of Moonlight. By this point, chances are good that if you're looking at this DVD set, you've seen the show and you want to know what the extras are. Unfortunately, there's nothing here for you. There are no extras at all. Nothing. The 4-DVD set, as of this date, contains the 16 episodes and nothing more. I'm not certain why considering that, at the time, surely they could have gotten at least one of the main actors to do an interview or something. Anything. However, the choice was made, but at least lovers of this show got a DVD set. Something is better than nothing, I suppose.
