A beautiful upgrade for something I hadn't even thought about in years
Our dish rack, which we use every single day, which we look at every single day, was something I had spent $3 on at a box store. It was white plastic and probably 10 years old. It no longer drained well (did it ever?), which is literally 50% of it's purpose in life. It was hideous, but I rarely saw it, even tho I looked at it every day. But then I looked at it, with it's puddling drain tray and bowing sides, and I hated it. So I bought this instead. This, which costs 15 times what the last one did. This, which is stainless steel and clearly high end, smooth plastic where appropriate. This, which has a rotating/adjustable drain spout so no matter where you place it you can be sure your dishwater will drain into the sink and not leave a puddle anywhere. Yeah. I spent fifty bones on a dish rack, and now I'm here reviewing it, because I'm very very GLAD that I spent fifty bones on a dish rack. Despite being very compact, it fits everything we need it to fit (we have a dishwasher, but certain unwieldy or delicate items my husband refuses to put in there), and it looks good doing it. We took a few minutes adjusting it's position when we got it.... do we want the silverware bin here or there, the outside hangers here or there, and finally settled in a location where we slide it out front under a cabinet a bit for tall things but otherwise it's back against the backsplash and STILL, the drainage spout reaches the sink and drains beautifully. We gained space and aesthetics. EVERYONE WINS.

What a dramatic change in my kitchen.
This strainer changed the overall looks of my kitchen sink area. No more dishes sitting in the straining on top of the counter -- always full with dishes. This strainer fits perfect (down) lower in the sink so it doesn't show. It is very sturdy. Has holders for plates, glasses and a separate part for silverware. I love you can put it in the dishwasher also. The 'drip tray' at the bottom is a wonderful feature, allowing the water to flow out and preventing it from pooling. It does not sit flat on the bottom of the sink, but has little 'legs' so it is up from the sink. I wish I had discovered this strainer years ago. As I remember, it was a little pricey, but well worth it.

Looks good while doing a great job
I've gotten compliments on this dish rack. Who compliments a dish rack? Nobody, unless they encounter the SimpleHuman compact dish rack. There isn't much to say because it does everything you want it to: - It has a small footprint. - It is sturdy and can support large, jenga-like towers of clean dishes. - It looks good, even after getting splashed with soapy and/or hard water. - It has a flexible drain to make sure dripping water goes where you want it to. - It has cup hooks on the side so you don't have to worry about stacking pots with wine glasses in the mix. There really isn't anything more I could want out of this rack. If you do dishes by hand, this is the dish rack of your dreams.

Attractive functional dish drain
I saw this product in a neighbor's home - and the feature attracting me was that it did not rest directly onto my counter and that there was a spout to drain accumulated water into the sink. Have always hated dish drain pads which tend to get yucky and stay wet. I like the look of this item - it's sleek & sturdy - roomy enough for an accumulation of dishes since I don't empty right away. The bottom of the pan is easy to clean and wipe down and while water doesn't visibly pour out, there isn't much moisture that accumulates there.. Surfaces stay clean & dry. This dish drain is an excellent design & well made.

compact, well made drying rack
Looking for a stainless steel drying rack found this one. It is a combination of plastic and (presumably) stainless steel, with internal parts made of plastic coated wire. The aesthetics are not entirely appealing to me (why the solid wall, bucket like appearance?), but we have had other Simple Human items (e.g., trash bin) and have been happy with them. It doesn't need a tray, instead it collects the water and has a movable spout that can be placed to direct it to the sink. Because of this and other design choices it sits pretty tall, which could be a problem if there is a cabinet over this part of the kitchen counter. Some details are unnecessarily cheap looking (the hanging tray for utensils is entirely in gray plastic, not great), others feature "interesting" choices (why only two external "hooks" to dry glasses? and why place them so tight to the body of the rack?), but overall the balance in price/looks/quality/practicalities is good. Haven't had it long enough to see how well it ages.

Best compact dish rack
I couldn't find a better looking, higher quality compact dish rack. The functionality is perfect for a kitchen sink that services just two people. The draining system is ingenious and no other company seems to have even considered how important that is. The product line of this company is always innovative and thoughtful. Fast forward 38 months: I still believe it's the best choice for small spaces. I've run the unit through the dishwasher without the latex grommet that seals the base and the frame. It turned out great. I replace my dish racks every few years, as the high use either wears out the finish or looks tacky. I will buy another one soon after I've scratched the finish off, left calcifying deposits on it and otherwise failed to properly care for it.

Just buy it and judge yourself for the price later
Yes, I do feel kind of stupid for buying a $50 dish drying rack. But do I love it? Also yes. This is the greatest dish rack I've ever had, and a huge step up from the awful plastic ones you can get at Target. Like everything Simplehuman sells, it is expertly designed with features that MAKE SENSE: a huge tray under the ENTIRE dish holder that is angled enough to let water actually drain; a separate spout that swivels independently of the tray that you can point any way you want; feet that raise it up off the counter so you can tell if any water spills out... They have seriously thought of everything, and I can't think of a single thing that I don't like about this dish rack. Yeah, it's $50, but you get a 5 year warranty from the seller and wont have to toss it in a year for breaking or being useless. Also it looks pretty cool sitting on the counter.

LOVE!!! BEST DISH RACK EVER!
I've never spent this much on dish rack, and I've never been impressed by one either. I decided to splurge on this perfect item after reading reviews. It really does hold so many dishes & pots and pans all at once - very well! The pull out drain and pivot drain spout are so convenient! I love that it doesn't sit directly on the counter and is suspended by sturdy legs. The utensil holder keeps ALL & alot of utensils in so well, without them falling thru as I've experienced with my other dish rack utensil holders. Love the look, quality and most of all the awesome functionality of this well designed rack. Thumbs up to simplehuman, job well done!

Maravilhoso!

The BEST small dish rack. Seriously.
This item is exactly as shown in the picture. I was able to stack a full load of dishes in this rack. Even an oven tray and cutting board. I'm seriously impressed. Sturdy, deep, and it looks great. The cutlery compartment (removable) is also deep so your forks/spoons/knives don't bounce out or fall all over the place. I highly recommend this rack for any small space.
