What kind of string would you use for making beaded animal key changes

I would try to get elastic type string it's usually White elastic string on a roll I like it because it stays tied I bought another type but I wouldn't stay tied I had to wrap their bracelets with Scotch tape. We also use pipe cleaners but you have to wrap them after or the metal scratches the children.
