I ordered the GearLight High-Powered LED Flashlight S1200 with some trepidation since reviews were hit and miss on the construction and manufacture of the flashlight (and other similar LED flashlights). But I was a bit tired of using "regular" incandescent $5 plastic flashlights which didn't offer much light. Since the price was "right" for me, I ordered this Gearlight LED flashlight - and wow, so far, so good (I've only had it a short time). It's heavier than most flashlights I'm used to, but that's not a drawback for me. There is substance and heft to this flashlight, and I like that. It could do some physical damage, if need be, to someone coming at you in the dark, if the light didn't blind them first! The brightness of the light itself is all that I hoped for - very bright white light with several adjustable settings to fit your needs. I keep the flashlight in my kitchen so I can have easy access if I need to peer into a dark cabinet or closet. But the real reason I bought it is to take with me on my bike or on a walk around the neighborhood, and while heavy to hold (I have small hands), it gives me all the light I need and more. I am pleasantly pleased with this light, which came in perfect condition (I'm very glad about that - no scratches on the lamp as some reviewers noted in the past). I'm using it with AA batteries, and that, too, is working out just fine for me. If anything about the flashlight changes within the next few months, I'll update my review. But for the price, the construction, and the BRIGHT LIGHT this is truly a great flashlight and a great deal.

I am absolutely impressed by the performance of this flashlight for the price. In my former profession, I used quality flashlights on a daily basis. For years, my primary flashlight was the $120 MagLite Magcharger (original), and this easily surpasses that in weight savings, brightness, and battery life for a fraction of the cost. The last few years of my career, I used the Streamlight Stinger LED. While the Stinger was (and is) a great performer, this light holds its own against it for a lot less cost. At first I was unsure about LED lights, but I have become quite fond of them as they are constantly getting better, and became superior to halogen / xenon technology some time ago as far as I am concerned. I thought this GearLight was going to be a lot more mediocre than it turned out to be. The fit and finish are remarkable, and it has a high quality feel. The light functions flawlessly and cycles through its modes as designed. I use it with a 3.7v 18650 battery, and there is a sleeve provided in the box which facilitates the use of the 18650. Of course, it also comes with the adapter for 3 AAA batteries, but I never used it and cannot comment on its function. The AAA battery adapter does appear to be reasonably well constructed, and I see no reason why it would not work just fine. Next to the J5 tactical light I purchased from Amazon almost 2 years ago, this is my favorite budget flashlight, and I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a high value, low cost flashlight!

Edit: I got to say with this light lacked in a brightness made up and Customer Service. They sent me a new light I didn’t even ask for it and it definitely was brighter , and smoother and more even. I could tell that the LED array was different. So you still need to make sure you get the right one I think if the light looks like the one in the photo are you might wanna tell them to send you a newer one. But one things for sure, if you’re looking for a company that will stand by their product instead of someone with no address or Internet presence and impossible to get a hold of, Gearlight will take care of you. So kudos to them and I look forward to trying out their future products. was anxious to get this light and try it out. It seems to have decent build quality and the focusing ring is smooth. It also has a AA battery adapter so you get the choice between using an 18650 cell or three AAs. Three AA should give you a nominal voltage of 4.5 V as compared to 3.7 V with the 18650. In theory you should get a little bit more brightness out of the AAs. The other thing that I find curious is that the manufacturer doesn’t mention what kind of LED array is being used for the lamp. In my experience this is not a good sign as flashlights that use the Cree arrays are usually pretty proud of that fact, particularly the XHP series. I’m not a fan of the tail cap switch but it’s not a dealbreaker. This one has one but it feels like it’s decent quality. My basic problem is that it’s just not very bright. I don’t wanna mention names because it seems like my reviews get kicked back whenever I mention other brands so let’s just say I’ve comparing this light to one of similar price, between 10 and $20. And it uses a Cree XHP50. You can see by the photo where I have focused them at about the same size circle, and the one on the left that is the Cress is significantly brighter than the Gearlight. The wider you go, the bigger and more noticeable the difference. And remember the Gearlight is getting .8 V more juice to the diode. The light also has a little bit more of a yellow cast to it with a strong yellow fringe around the edge. However before you get to the edge the light circle is fairly evenly lit. That shows it does have a decent focusing lens and reflector. The XHP 50 wall considerably brighter it does show a more uneven lighting pattern. One cool thing about these LED flashlights that focus is that when you bring the beam down to its most narrow focus you’re essentially projecting an image of the actual LED array onto whatever you’re shining light on. So if you shine it on a flat white surface you get a decent image of the actual LED array. Or you can see the two comparisons that I’ve tried to keep the doorway about the same size so the Cree has its typical quad array which it has been using for sometime. The gear A has these narrow strips and essentially a zigzag pattern. I’ve seen these arrays before but in much older lamps. And if you use the size of the doorway to compare you can see the Cree is actually much bigger. There obviously a lot of people very happy with this light and my guess is they don’t have a lot of experience with high output compact flashlights. I do and this one is just too dim for me. Especially considering all of the varied low cost options out there.

I am always skeptical about lumens ratings. Especially when they claim 800 - 1000 lumens. If it's not a car battery spotlight with a head lamp on it, I always doubt the rating. Normally most lights are 350 lumens at best. So I never expect to much more. This flashlight is incredible! I bought the rechargeable battery for it. 8000 maH 3.7v. I live on a large property lot with a abandoned ranch behind me. Lots of wildlife have taken it back over. I went out at 9:00pm CST and tested the flashlight. This baby will penetrate the darkness. If you cone it done to spot light function, you can see 200 - 300 yards easy. The flood setting on it is just flat amazing. You open this up to flood and it will light up the field like noon time on a sunny day. I am not being generous, this light is everything the seller says it is. I can see why it's got 1,000 plus positive reviews. It has super bright setting, medium bright setting, low power setting, strobe setting and SOS setting. The only thing I don't like about all of these lights is one minor thing and it's consistent across the industry. You have to push the tail cap each time you want to change settings. I wish there was a way to go from any setting back to super bright with one like sustained push of the tail cap. Other than that, this is a great flashlight and will provide illumination to any situation. I tried the Duracell batteries that can be alternated into power chamber with the little battery holder for AAA batteries. With new batteries I did not notice any loss of brilliance between li-ion rechargeable and Duracell. I bought two of the 26650 Li-ion flat top batteries off of Amazon and they fit and work very well. If you are going to use it for 30 mins to an hour of sustained run time, I would suggest the medium or low power settings. The light emitting end will get hot at the high power setting after about 15 minutes. It has a warning, "HOT" on that end. You have to have some heat if you are going to have this bright of a light. I have not used the customer service department yet, but judging from the people who have had to, I do not expect any problems. After all, they build a great product and did not lie about the brilliance of the light. I am not sure of the lumens, but I have an AR-15 rail light that is 650 lumens for sure. I know this for a fact and this flashlight is brighter than that rail light. I would think it is up there in the 800 range. One other thing, this is not a skinny little pocket light, It is a well made, aluminum casing hand held flashlight. It is not so large in diameter you can't easily hold it in one had and flip the tail cap on and off. It is a little heavier than most, but that allows for a good size battery that will provide all the power you need. I would of uploaded picture, however the Amazon link would not work for me. Not sure why, it always did before. This light will work for you though, you will not waste your money on this flashlight. Well made and bright!!!

My first order was delayed and a defective flashlight was delivered. Inside the box, the 18650 tube was gone and the flashlight could not be turned on. Days later when I checked back, a missing package seal on the bottom might explain why. Customer service is GREAT though. Responded quickly. Provided full refund with a coupon. So I reordered, and I am glad I did. The new ones are all functioning very well and I like both the quality and pricing. There are many good reasons why I chose this flashlight among others: 1.) With very affordable price, it outputs approx 1000 lumens bright light on the highest setting. This kind of brightness usually is beyond good enough but still won't accidentally blind your friends or families if you use it at a campground. 2.) Flexible choice on battery. Can take primary/NiMH AA batteries(x3 with adapter), or 18650(x1 with tube) or one 26650 (without any adapter or tube). Using a protected 26650 li-ion battery, which is not mentioned in the manual, it actually performs the best and guarantees you hours bright light. On the highest setting, it yields 5-hour stable high (>80%) brightness and after 8 hours it is still dimly on. Heat dissipation is quite well. Head stays warm, not hot at all. 3.) Good quality. I am impressed that it actually comes with 3 O-rings(2 on lens and 1 seals the bottom lid), that means should be at least IPX-7 waterproofing level (not tested but I am confident to use it outdoor in the rain). The hard-anodized body is well machined. I already had two smaller versions LED flashlights, but hopelessly attracted by s1200's bolder and stronger look. The package comes with a adapter for AAs and a clear tube for 18650. A couple of things can make it better I think: a) The attacking head could protrude slightly longer to keep the lens from scratching. The metal head is only a hair higher than the convex lens--this doesn't provide much protection when you place it upside down on a less perfect surface. b) Emitted light seems yellowish warm, especially near the edge. Should give another choice, such as the more popular cool white. Update on the initial defective one. Days later, I found some black smudge inside the battery chamber, spreading across the black insulation ring around its positive spring contact. Seemed to be glue or soldering residues that short circuit the battery. So I wiped it clean with alcohol, now it is as good as other normal ones! No doubts, I am happy with the purchase after all and I have ordered a few more!

This Gear Light LED flashlight is a mid-size flashlight. It can use AA batteries or a lithium rechargeable battery (18650 3.7v) A sleave is provided for the thinner lithium battery. I have only used AA batteries to date. There is an attached lanyard. It easily changes modes, and it is easy to zoom. The On/Off -Mode switch is on the butt of the unit and is a raised bright red button about a half inch across. It has a firm feel and click when pressed (easy to find and press without looking) I like the features and the very bright LED. This is the second of these Gear Light Flashlights I have purchased and it is sturdy, well-made. I bought the first Gear Light about a year ago. I think the cost is very competitive and reasonable. I consider this a GOOD BUY.

First off, the flashlight is a terrific value for $15. It's really bright, has all of the different modes I've come to expect from modern flashlights, and feels really solid. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if the need arose. Now for the impressive part of this review. After sitting for a while the batteries ran down then leaked inside of the tube and covered the battery holder (this is a battery problem, not the flashlights fault). I cleaned everything up as best I could and replaced the batteries, however the light wouldn't work. Under further inspection the battery hold had a contact that was damaged due to the battery acid. Oh well, for 15 bucks I'll just by another one. When I looked the listing for this light up on Amazon, I noticed some reviews stating that the company, GearLight, stood by their products. So, I thought I would email them and see what a new battery holder would cost - I wasn't asking for warranty work, of freebies as this was not the flashlights fault. They replied to me the same day and asked me to verify my address and that they would have one sent to me the next business day! Fast forward a couple of days and they sent me an email stating that the package should arrive in the next couple of days (which it did) and that there was no reason to return the old one (I was thinking they meant the battery holder). Imagine my surprise when a brand new flashlight showed up on my doorstep! I couldn't believe it, I mean I was expecting to buy a replacement battery holder, and they send me a whole new flashlight, for FREE. I can't explain how awesome I think this is, especially for a $15 flashlight. Needless to say, they've made a loyal customer as a result of this. Buy with confidence!

Extremely bright with a choice of reducing intensity down two stages. This is well thought out. HOWEVER: Battery corrosion will kill the internal conductors and can't be repaired. Change the batteries before they age.
