What kind of thru deck fitting is required?

The instructions call for a 5 inch diameter hole though the deck.

Does the flue build carbon and have to be cleaned frequently if used regularly?

We use ours almost every day during the winter and have only cleaned the chimney/flue once this season. It does not get much buildup. We clean the burner pot every other day though. If you don't have a barometric damper, sometimes you have to clean the fuel lines when there is a lot of wind because they can get clogged. We love our diesel heater and there's not a lot of really intensive maintenance you have to do (relatively).

Diesel runaway

After I almost burned my lobster boat up, I checked the fuel calibration and found it to be feeding twice the amount of fuel. Could have been out of calibration due to shipping. I strongly encourage an In line fuel shut off which is very simple to attach. Now that I have everything working as it should I will give it 5 stars.
