WOLVERINE: WEAPON X is the character-defining origin of the man known only as Logan. Written and illustrated by auteur creator and master storyteller Barry Windsor-Smith, it is undeniably one of the greatest Wolverine stories ever told. After being taken hostage by an experimental Canadian military-science outfit, Logan is transformed into Weapon X, an unstoppable killing machine with an indestructible adamantium skeleton and razor-sharp claws. But Weapon X cannot be contained by his captors - and trapped in their lab with the monster they have made, they will face his feral wrath! It's a psychedelic horror story in the mold of Frankenstein, restored from original art and print sources for this stunning deluxe edition! Collecting material from MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS (1988) #72-84, plus UNCANNY X-MEN (1981) #205 and material from WOLVERINE (1988) #166. Review: Important story in the Wolverine mythos... - Book is fine, it's a paperback. This really should get an Artist Edition treatment, the scans of the original art in the back that show the inks in full color look amazing. I'd love to see this story reprinted in that format. Coloring from this era can get wonky, they really loved their pastel pallettes back then. Lots of pinks and purples. Worth a pick up for $20, but I'd like to see it reprinted in a better format. Whatever their "Absolute" equivalent is at the very least. They probably won't just due to the fact they'd have to cut a sizable check to BWS and Marvel are notorious for being incredibly cheap. Review: Great way to experience this classic original story - I would like to see more classic stories in this format - great to see in larger size and muted colors newsprint style. I imagine most buyers are familiar with the story, but if not, it is a great BWS work that is an important piece of Marvel lore. The extras are welcome as well - Thanks BWS!

Excellent Representation Of Barry Smith's Art
This is my 3rd color Marvel Gallery Edition purchase, the other two being the Captain Marvel and Warlock compilations. By a significant margin, this is the best Gallery Edition I've purchased in this series as far as *accurately* representing the art as it originally appeared in the original comics as well as including "bonus" material. First off, the story and art throughout by Barry Smith is incredible. Although I have the original comics and the 1st hardcover printing of the story, the larger size of these gallery editions was enough for me to once again rebuy this collection of comics by one of my favorite artists at the peak of his abilities. The reproduction of his work in this larger format looks impeccable and unlike what some other reviews say, the coloring is *not* washed out but true to the original presentation. Graphically, the paper is warm, off white matt versus the glossy bright white of the other two books with no black edges, thus the pages don't stick together when the book is first opened. This look also gives the book more of a somewhat authentic pre-late 90's comic book appearance and complements the original coloring which appears a bit more subdued then the rather garish reissues on gloss white paper that have been released over the past few decades. The only thing I would say negatively about this graphic choice is Marvel could have used a bit heavier paper stock but that's a minor complaint at best. The contents include the original Barry Smith written and illustrated Wolverine/Weapon X story as well as a short 5 page story detailing the fate of one of Wolverine's victims. Plus there is a Barry Smith illustrated X-Men story (from issue #205) detailing his battle with Deathstrike. Finally, there's 44 pages of various Barry Smith X-Men and Wolverine color comics covers and scans of original art. If you're a fan of the Wolverine character and especially of artist Barry Smith, this book gets my highest recommendation.

Pretty good story. Interesting use of colors
This was a good, quick read. I did enjoy the detail the artist put into the panels, you can tell they took a lot of pride in making small details really look lifelike. The use of color is interesting and I’m told that it is due to the artist believing he could adjust the colors so they would look good on the garbage paper they used to make comics with. Idk if it’s true, but cool story anyway.

10 out of 10 l .
Beautiful story and art, also depressing since this is who Wolverine is doomed to be. Also love how the drawings are kind of cyberpunk themed with all the cables and mixture of colors and shadows.

The best edition to date of this material!
Excellent oversized hardcover version of easily one of the best comics Barry Windsor-Smith ever produced! The garish 90s colors are a bit more subdued in this version but the real selling point is the high resolution scans of some of the original art included in this edition! Not artist edition level but still the best presentation of this material out there.
