Good quality !
Very bright and is handy to have. It has 3 different brightness settings. Little brighter than my old one I purchased years ago. The only thing I miss is the hook to hang light is in the middle, I like the one that hangs from the back top side of the light. Highly recommend.

Makita Man does it again.
A little flimsy feeling but it's handled a couple drops well. Not blinding but definitely bright enough and convenient to hang/maneuver if you are unfortunate enough to need it in crawlspaces.

Not as good as it should be, but the best that Makita offers.
Reviewing this light is rough because while it's not as good as it should be, it is the best of this style of work light that Makita has made to date. I had the first iteration of this light, along with Dewalt's 20v work light and Kobalt's 24v work light. I gave the Makita and Dewalt away and kept the Kobalt 24v. That was probably 4 years ago now. The Kobalt is still the best version of this light by a long margin. I think Ridgid might have just came out with a pretty comparable light, but I don't have those batteries, so I don't intend to test it out. See the photos comparing the Kobalt to the Makita. Pros: Light quality is soft and diffuse due to the layer of semi-transparent diffusion plastic. The light quality is quite nice, although it does not appear to be daylight balanced. The hook is endlessly more useful than the previous model. The hook is fiddly, but it works well. It mounts to the light between the handle and the light head, which allows the user to hang the light and then angle the head so that it still aims at your workpiece. The problem with the previous model is that the hook was attached to the light head, so when you hang the light, the weight of battery straightens the light out and negates any angle you may have set to the articulating head. Light intensity is very usable on high. Not has bright as the Kobalt, but more than bright enough. It also gets dimmer than the Kobalt, so that is nice when you want to preserve battery life and/or don't want to light up the whole world. For instance, when camping. Cons: The switch is an annoying spot. You use your thumb, instead of your trigger finger, like a drill or basically every battery tool ever made... The middle brightness setting is redundant and forces you to interact with the terrible switch more than is enjoyable. It's much larger and longer than necessary. See photos comparing the Makita and Kobalt. It's quite tall for no apparent reason. Build quality is significantly lower than it should be for the price, and for the Makita branding. My $60 Kobalt that I got on sale for $38 is significantly better built and feels more rugged. The Makita is constructed of mostly ABS plastic as far as I can tell. It is somewhat cheap and fragile feeling. In the end, it's not great. Not worth the price. But if you're on the Makita platform or have a truck tool set and a home tool set and want to keep only one brand of batteries in any one location... This is your best option if you like this style of work light.

easy to break
Was hoping this new version would be more robust than the old one, but the swivel function of the head snapped off the first time I dropped it. The hook is a genuine improvement, and it is brighter, but it's still pretty delicate. I glued it together and can still use it, but the head no longer rotates....just like the older version i was trying to replace.

Top !

Three level brightness and excellent fold up size
Yep it’s the thing you’ll need for those dark work spots or that astronomy night. Just add some cinematography filter LEE #106 primary red gel film and a rubber band. Or go hack-it mode and make a slide on tube with your colour selection inside.
