I thought it was great! Learned a lot about trend analysis
I thought it was great! Learned a lot about trend analysis, stock charts, moving averages and good places to put stops on existing purchases. The authors perspectives on what makes stocks move, confirmed my own feelings. Some good information on short selling. A good read and reference book for market traders.

Good Book
I might be a little skewed since I am not a novice to technical analysis, but all in all this is a good book for learning basics of technical analysis. I purchased this because it was x10 less expensive than the newer versions and I wanted to get a feel for what the CMT test would require. Pretty much what I expected. For a beginner, I might suggest the newer versions although this one is great if you have the ability to relate past experiences to the present. In fact, my favorite part about this version is just that... I love reading about stock history and relating it to now. To me that's more useful than learning 100 new stock indicators. It's a history lesson and a great technical characteristic if you will... realizing that the past repeats itself. Can't give it 5 stars because it isn't the easiest of reads and I didn't learn many new things, but again I am not a beginner so take that into consideration before relying on this review.

Old But Great
This was a hard to find book at the start of my career. I often buy the book as a gift to a young one keen on learning the psychology of stocks. It is ancient, dry, old school and WORKS! Timeless work beautiful to have and hold. To properly access the theory it is about the equivalent of two college or university credits. To practice the theories buy some chart log paper and enter data daily for an old school exercise.

All made clear!
Well, it's 5 stars for the first half of the book, I got it a week ago. It all makes good sense. I'm sure the 2nd half will be just as good

An oldie but goody
I bought this more out of curiosity than anything else because Magee & Edwards are often credited with being the fathers of modern technical analysis. But because of its vintage, the concepts covered won't be anything new to most traders as they discuss the most common and fundamental market patterns which are, these days, taught in every trading classroom and book. Where this book is fascinating though is more of a history lesson. When patterns such as Head and Shoulders were first being noticed, charts were drawn by hand using prices published each day in the WSJ, and as such, the budding technical analyst was forced to concentrate on a just a few stocks or commodities as time would allow. Seeing how technical analysis used to be done and how the price patterns haven't changed all that much over the years (many of the charts are from the 20's, 30's and 40's) will give the seasoned reader added depth and appreciation for their trade, if not teach you anything new. For a newbie trader, there is certainly value in learning these concepts from a book that treats them as cutting edge, but a lot of the surrounding information is obsolete (such as chapters on how to choose your graph paper!), so a lot of pages won't be of much interest. The technical analysis is explained in an easy to read manner, however, so it's not a bad book either. In summary, an interesting history lesson but there's nothing here that hasn't been covered in a thousand books published since.
