It uses flint (like in a zippo) and metal to strike the smark, which pretty fool-proof. I used to use a Colibri which created an electric spark. That system doesn't work all the time. My experience is that this lighter is more simple and works every time.

For those who’ve owned this lighter for more than 6 months, how’s the durability?

Mine actually works very well still , it's one of daily cigar lighters I have had no problems with it

How long does the butane last?

About a week or two depends on how often you use it and how long you leave it open and light it and leave the flame burning.
