New Chapter makes vitamins and supplements that are whole-food fermented. I had never heard of whole-food fermented vitamins before but the process entails fermenting with probiotics - rather like the way yogurt is made. This produces a vitamin that is non-constipating and is easy on your stomach. You can take this vitamin on an empty stomach with no upset. My husband has been taking it first thing in the morning with coffee and has had no issues at all. This particular offering is designed for men 55 and over. It contains some ingredients like saw palmetto, selenium and nettle extract for prostate health in addition to the vitamins and minerals you expect to find in a multivitamin. It's hard to say one way or the other if any particular vitamin works or not if you aren't a chemist and cannot test them in a laboratory. However, my husband takes a multivitamin daily in an effort to stay healthy. This one has 250% of the RDA for Vitamin D3 and 417% of the RDA for Vitamin B12 - two vitamins my husband's doctor wants him to get plenty of. Plus there are additional things like tumeric and Astaxanthin. It's verified non-GMO and certified organic and suitable for vegetarians (not vegans, though.) These are BIG tablets. They are scored, though, so if you have trouble swallowing pills, you can cut them in half. They don't have that vitamin smell. They smell like alfalfa to me. I was concerned about this because I think B vitamins are crucial and they usually have a very distinctive smell. However, when taking this vitamin, it does turn your urine bright yellow so I'm pretty sure the B vitamins are in there in appropriate amounts. I'm also sure there is a probiotic component in this multivitamin as it definitely helps with digestion. If you are someone prone to constipation, this is a plus. One thing I would like to suggest to New Chapter is that they include an insert in the box that lists the ingredients and the RDA percentages in a type size that is actually readable. Particularly a vitamin marketed to aging people. I had to get a magnifying glass to read this info on the side of the box because the print is so small. My husband is happy with them and that makes me happy.
