Solid build, does exactly what it says
Really happy with the build quality on this one. Used it to pull data off an old 3.5โ SATA hard drive I had lying around, and it worked exactly as expected - no issues at all. Super easy to set up and use. Would definitely recommend if you need something reliable for this kind of job.

A Clever Solution for the Puzzling World of Data
The Unitek SATA/IDE to USB 3.0 Adapter is a device that approaches the often-confounding world of data transfer with the precision and cunning of a master sleuth. It deftly bridges older drives and modern systems, allowing one to access files that might otherwise remain locked away in mystery. Setup is straightforward, and the adapter performs reliably, ensuring that documents, photos, and archives can be examined with ease and confidence. What is most commendable is its versatility. Both SATA and IDE drives find a welcoming interface, and the USB 3.0 connection delivers impressive speed without complication. In a realm where lost or inaccessible data can feel like an unsolved case, this adapter proves indispensable, bringing clarity and resolution to otherwise puzzling situations. Five stars for a tool that combines ingenuity, reliability, and practical elegance.

Works but with limitations, and has a insufficient power supply for powering IDE HDDs
This USB to IDE interface works only with Windows or MacOS. I only used it with my Windows 7 and 10 machines. The problem with the interface is that the power provided is insufficient for powering a IDE HDD unit. So, I had a previous Power Supply with a MOLEX connector from a previous USB to IDE interface kit, which I saved ( that device required a driver that I could not get, and I tossed it out ). This is the only way I could get it to work right with my Windows OS machines. Another thing is that this device is incompatible with Linux or FreeBSD if you use QEMU + hypervisor with a virtualized OS of Windows. You can not use this USB to IDE device to create and run a bootable drive like you can with USB flash drives. This device is also not compatible with FreeDOS OS, since the device uses a driver that it loads into Windows so that the IDE device is recognized.

Well worth the price to get this.
Took me forever to go through 5 different hard drives. This made it easy not only to check them to see if they worked, but, also to see what kind of drive I had. (The instructions tell you what side is what kind of hard drive) I found that I have two drives that are 1TB Western Digital quality drives. I am going to use them for backup. I have found an enclosure on here that holds both in one device. I have one IDE drive with 80GB drive that I can give to a friend for backing up their computer. I can either give them this device to access it or I can get them and enclosure made for the IDE drive. Well worth the price to get this.

Makes is so simple to get data from old hard drives!
I had five old computers, ranging in age from 10 to 25 years. They were my previous PCs. Somehow I believed I would be able to pull the data off of those old PCS at some future point in time, but I had no idea how I was going to do it. So I kept them around and kept them in air-conditioned environments, and they were a royal pain. As time went along, I had less and less hope that I would be able to figure out how to get the data off of those old hard disks. I recently saw an advertisement for a device that would connect to old hard drives and allow you to plug them into the USB on your computer and treat them just like they were a flash drive. The device was cheap enough that I decided to order one. Wonder of wonders! I had seven hard disks that I scavenged from those five computers. This device plugged into all seven of them, even though they used three different interface technologies. Two of them were beyond rescue, but the other five came up just fine. I was able to recover a lot of data, including many old photographs I had taken over the past 25 years, like pictures of my kids when they were growing up. I am excited to get these files back and to finally get rid of these old computers. If you need data from old hard drives, I highly recommend this!

Mostrly works, but slow
I used this to transfer data from an old IDE laptop drive to a new Samsung QVO 870 for storage. I ran into 2 issues: 1. This thing absolutely would not work with 2 drives connected. The second picture in the listing shows it working with 3 drives, but I couldn't get mine to work with 2 so I had to copy everything on to the transferring computer then again to the destination drive. 2. I received read errors on both drives when I first plugged them in and turned it on. After a filesystem check showed everything was good, I was able to access the files on the drive and copy them to my computer. 3. It's slow. Like USB 2.0 speeds slow. My initial copy speeds from the IDE drive were faster, in the 80 MB/s range, then they tanked into the 20 MB/S range. Whatever, it worked well enough and I was able to backup everything I needed to get onto my new laptop's NVME SSD. I then started copying everything on to the 870 QVO, and got the same results. 80 MB/s to start, then the transfer tanked to 20 MB/s. I stopped the transfer and switched the drive into my Startech 2-port SATA dock (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KILQOG0) and everything sped back up to the expected transfer speeds. Bottom line: it was cheap and it worked well enough for the one time I needed to copy everything from an old IDE laptop drive. I would definitely spend more money on a better adapter if I had to do it again.

Simple, effective and relatively affordable compared to other options
The product connected with some old internal and external hard disks with no problem at all. Didnโt need to load any special software to access the drives (Windows 11). Very happy. Amazon Prime also performed well: I ordered the item in the morning and received it by 7pm the same day.
