Bore Weevil 2.0

Birchwood Casey continually produces firearms cleaning and maintenence items. I use Birchwood Casey products daily in my gunsmithing business and wouldn't think of using anything else.

I typically don’t leave reviews, however this particular item warrants one. I bought this hoping it would aid in cleaning my pump, and semi auto deer rifles. I like the bore snakes for a quick cleaning, however I don’t trust them to get a good deep cleaning before putting them away for the winter. Insert this device, to which I could theoretically attach cleaning brushes and swabs, and pull them from the action, and put the bore. On my first attempt, it struggled mightily to simple just pull the bore brush through the -06 barrel. It did get easier with each subsequent attempt (of which I did 6 times). However, one my first attempt to run a 1” bore cleaning patch dipped in solvent, the patch got 1/2 way down the barrel, and the factory “knot” to which the threaded attachment for connecting swabs and the sort SNAPPED. Now left with a swab, swabbing eye, and a piece of the pulling rope stuck in the barrel, I was left to jam a cleaning rod from bore crown to action, and eventually was able to get it out through the action. I would NOT EVER recommend this product to anyone, for any reason

At time of order the description stated 1"x1" which didn't seem right and when it showed up it's closer to 4" dia x 1 1/4" thick. For an automatic spool for a thin cord this is way bigger than it should be and way too big for carrying in a range bag. I like the concept but to be useful for me it would need to be around 2" dia and maybe 3/4" thick. I have a surveying plumb-bob with retractable cord that could actually work for this application and it's 1.5" x 1/2" thick. And, the color is dark grey not red like in the photo.
