Rewiew of NETVUE Wireless Security Camera Outdoor (Vigil Plus) / a great camera and a greater app!
As an official tester of the NETVUE Wireless Security Camera Outdoor, Rechargeable Battery Powered Surveillance Cameras for Home Security, Smart AI Detection, IP66 Waterproof, 2-Way Audio, 1080P Night Vision Cloud/SD Storage (this item can also be checked on the Netvue.com site) which I purchased from Amazon.com, I will outline the experience I had: (1) unboxing: (2) activating the camera and Netvue App (which searched via my iPhone 12 Pro with latest IOS. Note I note this because initially I had difficulty finding and activating the NetVue (Outdoor) Vigil Plus Camera from the list provided in the App: (3) and testing the camera before locating it at the front door. I received the following items in the box with a message to “check the package to see if it's well or if any parts are missing. If so, please contact us”. [Photos of unboxing, day, night shots, with and without White Light] 2. To activate the NetVue App (note that NetVuE end with an “e” because there simile apps ending in “VU” that do not work), first set up an account in the NetVue App which is fairly easy, just follow the instructions in the App. There is a small manual in the box but more detailed instructions are given in the App about every aspect of the camera and the App. I experienced a little glitch in activating the Vigil Plus Camera but was able to resolve the issue by phone and email: [email protected] with NetVue support. 3. Before installing the camera outside, I tested it. Since there is “No Cabling - it is equipped with a rechargeable battery that can last 8 months” … all I had to do is charge the battery with the supplied USB cable and follow the instructions in the App for adding a camera …. Click the + sign in the upper right hand corner then scroll down to “Outdoor Cameras” and click on “Vigil Plus” and then “Add New Camera” and follow the directions by answering the question that will get you through setting up your camera on your internet network, etc. After getting acquainted with and wealth of information that the App gives about the camera, it is a good idea to go the man menus available; below is a partial listing of the services supplied by camera and app: [Menus of Netvue App] I hope this gives good overview of this wireless, battery (I added a solar panel) operated Vigil Plus. I also added a 128GB Memory Card (for recording of events). I am very happy with its compatibility with Alexa which I had on a Vuebell Video Doorbell which worked very well when I said: “Show front door” …. Our present RCA doorbell on our new house does not have this feature and this is the reason for installing the Vigil Plus. For the price I think it is an excellent deal and perfect for a front door with its two-way audio capability. Reviewed by JZ

Easiest one yet...
I have three outdoor Netvue cameras, having two standard Vigils and one Pan & Tilt version. It was a labor of love that started with testing the first Vigil 4 years ago. I bought the initial one not sure if I was going to like the whole camera dealio-thing, or if I would think it was worth the effort in the end. I must say that 1st camera was a real eye-opening experience getting it up and running, and then working well with the app. Admittedly, I was a complete newb and after feeling really proud of myself getting over that initial hurdle... about a year later purchased my 2nd Vigil... then the Pan & Tilt a year after that. Each time, the set up and linking to the app was easier than the last model... but always, and I mean always... the performance of the camera itself was never an issue. The product was always super reliable, super-crisp video and decent audio/talk functionality. This last purchase was my first foray into the battery-only model, and I had a particular good use for it as I always wanted to have a tree-viewed angle of my property, but didn't want to deal with unwieldly and unsightly power cords. Well, as I stated, after 3 other Netvue camera installs, I was hoping this was going to be easy to get up and running. But since it was not a direct plug-in, and 25' up in a tree, I wasn't sure if it was going to pan out with the wifi link etc. in short order, or if I was going to have to make it a career. It turns out the interface to get this camera connected, and the SD card formatted was the simplest of any previous Netvue camera I've tried... it even talked to me when my wifi password was not correct (my mistake). I had that little gizmo up and running in 20 minutes and looking at video from the SD card immediately afterward on the app. The camera image (both day and night) are fantastic, just like all my other cameras... yet noticeably better than my very first Grandpa of a camera that's been out there in the 110+ heat of Phoenix weather for over 4 years now. I'm not sure how you can beat these little Netvues for the value... I've always purchased them on sort of sale or lightning deal, and the bang for the buck (especially once I figured out the sd card option worked for my particular application) is ridiculous in my opinion. My next test will me the solar power version/option model... which, living on Phoenix should be a no-brainer since clouds around these parts are about as scarce as snow days! :)

Good wireless, battery-powered cam
I have 3 other Netvue cameras (2 home cams, 1 orb mini) that I’ve had for a while. Even though they are not rated for outdoor use they are all permanently outside (covered) and they are all rock solid! So when the Vigil Plus came out I expected the same quality. However, this camera is outdoor-rated but I’m using it indoors. I attached a gorilla pod tripod to it so I could place it in areas where I want to keep track of pets using live viewing. The video quality is fantastic and it has all the features you’d expect except one major one—continuous recording. I love that about my other Netvue cams but then again they are plugged in to a power source. The Vigil Plus’ shining moment is its large battery. I presume they didn’t include this continuous recording feature because it would drain the battery too fast. It’s just not that kind of camera. This is a motion, security camera that you place in out of the way places where you may not have an electrical outlet handy like a tree, shed, etc. It’s a truly “wire-free” camera. On a technical note, I usually get an error pop-up when trying to access the live view for the first time but then it usually connects—a minor annoyance. There was one instance where it lost connection altogether and I had to restart it. Since then it has been ok. I have tested it indoors and my next phase is to test it outdoors, uncovered in a remote part of my yard. I hope the only biggest challenge is the WiFi reach! I’ll update this review at that time.

As advertised: UPDATE: Not as advertised
Needed to replace a 5year old Netvue Vigil that was DC powered and hooked up to Ethernet and placed in all types of weather and was very easy to use and very reliable up until it stopped receiving power. Tried a Reolink based on reviews and could never connect to Wi-Fi no matter how many times I tried., Tried a Zumimall and was able to connect but the notifications for motion detection were more miss than hit if that, and if you had multiple users you needed to log in every time, extremely frustrating. The Zumimall was offered at a deep discount as well. Should’ve stayed with Netvue and would have saved time and frustration with the others. So far this Netvue connected instantly and the picture quality is great and the use of the app is easy. The motion detention seems to be what I expect. UPDATE: Connecting to live feed most times is very sporadic, Goes offline even though signal strength is mostly Medium and then constantly goes offline. And after only 2 weeks the battery has drained more than half. Recharging to full and buying a WiFi booster to see if that helps the connectivity. If the booster and/or recharging battery does not help then it will be returned.

Easy Installation and great streaming quality
Really enjoy the excellent picture quality and wide angle of this camera, day and night. The flashlight and siren button on the APP actually works and useful when necessary. I have the APP that run a few Netvue cameras. In the App I could simply add this new camera and follow the procedures in the App to add the camera to the system. This camera needed to be mounted on wall or tree. I wish it came with other options that it can be easily stand on a surface with a bigger stand, being able to screw to a tripod or something. I love to move the camera around often. It does not come with power adapter but came with USB charging cable. The connection of the charging cable is a little bit hard to fit in my unit, however it works. The initiative connection from the App the the camera take about 3 seconds, longer than other Netvue models, due to the quality of the picture. Once the connection is established, it runs really smooth. Truly enjoy this camera. Plan to add a few more in the future.

Completely Unreliable
If you are purchasing this for use as a security camera, keep shopping. I have had nothing but trouble with these cameras since the day I installed them. I am tech-savvy and have very strong and reliable wifi, so the issues are not operator error or system instability. I have a total of 4 Netvue cameras. The 2 older ones (wired, no batteries, used indoors) work great and record constantly. The 2 Vigil Plus wireless cameras I purchased in February rarely work properly. The most common issue is not being able to connect to the camera at all - and that usually happens when I am not at home. It is VERY frustrating to receive an alert and see a picture of someone standing on your porch, but not be able to interact or even connect to the live camera at all (2-way sound is useless if I can't connect to the camera before the person leaves). Other issues: The date and time stamp on my alerts is off by several hours on both cameras, even after double-checking the time zone settings on both cameras and my home wifi connection. Battery life is a JOKE! I got the cameras in February and have already had to charge them, even after fully charging them for an entire day and night before installing them. Considering they rarely work correctly, I'm certain it isn't excessive activity using up the battery life. The timing of the snapshots on the alerts is way off. It snaps a series of 3 pictures as long as 10 seconds after the actual activity began - usually a picture of someone walking away from the door and 2 more pictures of my empty porch. It takes a very long time for the live feed to load, so if an event is happening and you need to quickly check in, you cannot. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts to load the live stream - up to 2 or 3 minutes. That is a long time to wait if somebody is ringing your doorbell or stealing a package from your porch. If I only had one of them and it consistently failed to work, I would keep trying to troubleshoot this. I have 2 and they BOTH consistently fail to connect, fail to record, and just fail.

Wireless!!!
This is my 4th netvue camera and it works great. I have 2 orb cameras and a fixed camera that I use indoors, but I wanted an outdoor camera as well. This Vigil Plus camera is perfect for my application. I didn't want to have to route cables outside and this camera allows for that - a completely wireless installation. It has a built in rechargeable battery and connects over wifi so all you have to do is mount it. After opening the package, I charged the camera for about 8 hours until it was fully charged, then proceeded to power it up. Since I already have 3 other netvue cameras, I just had to start my netvue app and add the new camera to it. Setup was a breeze and within a minute or two I was streaming video from the camera to the app. I'm not sure how long the battery will stay charged, but there is a battery charge indicator in the app to monitor it. I've only had it for about a week, but so far my ony complaint is that I didn't get a solar charger with it to eliminate the need for periodic charging. Great camera so far!
