can the pump run with the nozzle closed without damaging the pump?

I have let it mine run for a few minutes while moving tanks around, have had no issues. I wouldnt let it run indefinitely though.

No. It is sold separately. This pump comes with the manual nozzle and you will also need to order the swivel joint separately if you want one. I recommend it.

Tuthill/Fillrite currently has no petroleum transfer pump certified for aviation fuel.

what wire gauge uses this unit?

I'm sorry.I didn't use the wire that came with the pump as it wasn't long enough. I had 12 guage already and that is what I used.
