I saw VietNam on tour with the Black Angels a few years ago and was totally blown away. They were instantly my favourite new band and it was strange there wasn't much written about them or old music to track down. They sounded like Canned Heat with Lou Reed writing lyrics and delivered with a growl like Johnny Cash after too many cigarettes. Then they broke up by 2008, or it was at least obvious there wouldn't be another album, and that was it. This one is a lot like the snapshot on its cover - a moment in time you can't get back. Maybe it was too good to last. I'm sure its deleted by now, get it while you can, dig it for a lifetime.

The album in whole is really good if you like blues rock with a twist of psychedelic theme to it. The song "Welcome to my Room" is the reason I bought it, but I soon fell in love with the chorus of "Gabe". It is one of those albums that you can listen to over and over, day after day.

Interesting...I like the hippie 70s influence, although it is a little mellow for my taste. Decent overall.

Read their article in Rolling Stone and gave it a try. It's hard to find this CD Anywhere, so I got it off Rhapsody. But get it if your into straight rockn'roll and no overproduction. I hate to compare artists but to give you an idea, Dylan and lou Reed is the voice and the band just cranks. A must for anyone sick of todays teenebopper carisma. Have had it in my player for a week straight now. Also check out Rose Hill Drive, The Muggs and American Minor.

Got this after reading the article in rolling stone. Was turned off at first by the fact that it appeared that they are behind their time. Then i came to appreciate their uniqueness and musicianship. The guitar work was not phenominal, but it was impressive. The lyrics are mainly political/metaphorical, tho nothing that hasnt been done before. Other lyrics are about living hard and being anti-establishment. They are blues/rock based, laid back, and fluid. Most songs are written around guitar tho one has orchestra (eww, stripped down is best). They have a unique, easy going sound that revolves around hazy and loose sounding guitar. Very nice. They are more than a hippie-revival band and are rather sophisticated for coming from a american blues sound. Its really a shame that they will never get big in the new pretty-boy emo music scene. Tho they wont be famous, they seem to get satisfaction from saying "F-- you" to the polished corporate-dominated music industry, and i appreciate that more than anything. Please buy this and support them, they deserve the money for going against the times. Hope they find success somehow.

Vietnam is finally starting to get the recognition they deserve and it is about time. This band is refreshingly straight forward in the sound they lay down. It has been called psychedelic, and is such, but in the vein of the Velvet Underground. The music is raw and powerful. If you have never heard it imagine a cross between The Jim Carroll Band and mid seventy's Lou Reed. The lyrical content helps carry this description further with constant references to hipster city life that will leave your searching for your old copy of "The Basketball Diaries." A listen will transport you back to addled all night parties and smokey concert halls. Fans of edgy blues and psychedelia do yourself a favor and be sure to pick up this CD.

Great album! Sometimes psychedelic, sometimes angry, other times poetic... but always sung from within the singer's soul.

Vietnam est le groupe de l'américain Michael Werner qui, au même titre que Roky Erickson, Sky Saxon, Greg Sage et Ron Asheton, est un héros oublié du rock'n'roll des seconds couteaux. Ce premier album est sorti en 2007 dans un anonymat total, alors que c'est une petite pépite de psychédélisme punk rempli de complaintes hallucinées et hallucinantes. Le groupe de Brooklyn est constitué de 4 gus débraillés, aux mines patibulaires avec des visages obscurcis par des cheveux longs et des barbes de SDF, si j'en juge par la photo de l'album, qui jouent des blues psyché sortis d'outre-tombe, portés par la voix nasillarde de Gerner (aux intonations proches de celle de Bob Dylan). A ses côtés, le guitariste Josh Grubb, le batteur Michael Foss et le bassiste Ivan Berko ne sont pas en reste et il suffit d'écouter les sérénades de promenade nocturne que sont "Toby" et "Too tired" pour être irrémédiablement séduit. Parmi les nombreux invités, on notera la présence de Jenny Lewis au chant, et, plus improbable, le bassiste de Maroon 5, Michael Madden, qui coproduit l'album avec Dave Scher des Beachwood Sparks. Un disque qui fait partie de ma discothèque secrète, et, qui, par conséquent, a droit à la notation maxi de 5 étoiles

La page artiste, ou certains commentaires sur d'autres sites, présentent Vietnam comme un groupe psychédélique s'inspirant du Velvet Underground. Cela sonne plus comme un album de Bob Dylan du tournant des seventies, avec le Band assurant derrière. Surtout que la voix du chanteur a, cherche et retrouve les inflexions du Bob Zimmerman. Donc bien bon, même si on n'a pas affaire à un groupe de le taille du revival psyché des 80's ou même de The Morning After.
