Is this unit effected wheather it is the direct sunlight or shade?

I've tested the sensor shield because I had the same question (shade 75.7F, in direct sun in well ventilated area 84.6F). Mounted on the north side of the house it should work fine to protect the sensor from the elements.

Question 2

We here in Colorado, have a lot of wasps (or wasp impersonators) this looks like a perfect starter hive for a queen; anyone seen this?

The slots are definitely large enough for wasps.  You could slip a rolled up screen inside, but even the vent slots on the bottom would have to be covered as well. I wouldn't try to spray the inside with wasp killer (repels them as well) because the plastic is so cheap it would likely dissolve.  My Colorado wasps are not deterred by "bright light" as they built a nest inside one of my outdoor light fixtures/wall sconces where the lights are left on all night (learned that when I got stung changing the bulb!)  I just hung them up without any screen or other deterrent.  I guess I'll know in a month or two!

Can i use this sensor to replace the one i currently usemodel tx37u or do i buy a total new set?

Accepted Answer

This isn't a sensor. This is a sensor weather shield. Your sensor that came with your weather station goes inside the shield. If you need a new sensor, you will need to buy that separately.

Question 4

Can i place this in a mailbox because i  absolutely have no where else to place this shield from being in direct sunlight. ?

It’s unlikely you’ll get accurate readings when the sensor is in a mailbox as it has to be able to detect air temps, moisture and humidity from the outdoor environment. Some people have been able to place them on trees, under roof overhangs etc. wondering if you could create some sort of additional  sun protective shield around it that will allow for air and moisture detection?
