It works! No headache!
Like all professional women in their upper-40s with a spouse and teenagers, I am a BIG FAN of wine. However, I am not a fan of waking up with a headache and a fuzzy brain. My friends and I saw the Ullo on Facebook around the same time and I decided, in the name of science, to try it out for all of us. The other reviews mentioned lower prices outside Amazon, but we live on a military base in Japan with an overseas military address, and the Ullo website would not ship here. At any rate, it arrived yesterday and turned out to be much larger and heavier than I expected. It's about the size of a baseball, and you'll want to be very careful perching it atop your expensive crystal wine glasses. The packaging is sophisticated and attractive, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I had a little difficulty getting it locked back together after inserting the filter, but by matching the ridges in the filter holder with the ridges on the inside of the black part, it went together easily. I also didn't expect that you're supposed to take a minute or two pouring the wine through the filter. You know how that feels like forever when you're waiting for the microwave to beep? It feels even longer when you're waiting to drink your wine! On the bright side, the necessity of a slow pour kept me from putting away a bottle of wine as quickly as I certainly could, which may lead to somewhat lower consumption than usual. It gave me a minute to think, "Do I really want another glass of wine?" My very first sip tasted a tiny bit weird... I can't explain HOW but this is a wine I drink several times per week and it just tasted a little off, but only on the first sip. Subsequent sips and glasses did not trigger any kind of reaction or awareness to taste. Okay so blah blah blah, I drank a bunch of wine, went to bed, and woke up this morning feeling... (drumroll please)... FINE! I didn't wake up sweaty in the middle of the night and stay awake for 45 minutes, I didn't have a headache in the morning, I didn't feel blurry, and I didn't say "Ugh" when I stood up. This thing really works! Keep in mind that each filter is only good for ONE bottle of wine, and now I'm kind of wishing I bought the white wine carafe to filter the whole thing at once. Replacement filters are a bit spendy, too; if you buy the 10-pack from Amazon you're adding $3.99 to the price of each bottle of wine you consume. Regardless, to enjoy the effects of wine without the consequences is well worth it to me!

It works!
A friend who is allergic to sulfates recommended this product to me and I am so happy he did. It really does work. As I got older I started to get a headache after just one glass of red wine. It was disheartening because I really like red wine and I love to go wine tasting. This device has a filter in it that you pour the wine through and it greatly reduces the sulfates in the wine thus also greatly reducing my headaches. The instructions say you need to use a new filter for every bottle of wine, I experimented a bit and found that one filter can last for 2-3 bottles as long as you pour all the bottles within an hour or two, so I do this when friends are over and they all want to try the new filtering system. However, when you let a bottle stand over a full evening, maybe 3 hours or so the filter doesn't work as well for even just one bottle, so in that situation I would just put in a new filter. So, knowing that, it is easy to make this system work for each situation. It is a bit awkward to change the filters until you get the feel for it. And the first replacement filter I used was a bit to thick to fit into the device, I thought it was user error, but when I tried another filter it for perfectly, so it may be that there is some inconsistency in size. I have not run into that problem again. I haven't noticed a change in the taste of the wine and neither have any of my friends who have tried it. It seems to be a well constructed product and it is easy to wash after use. I recommend this product if red wine has been giving you headaches.

ULLO 3 Week Use
So I have been a big fan of wines and enjoy the socially and special occasions. My favorite are reds (Cabs, Blends,). I researched on something that could make the experience of drinking wine that was young or sweeter without the consequences of the headache and sensitivity to sulfates. Enter ULLO, which I purchased 3 weeks ago. Here is my own subjective review of this interesting wine accessory: IMO It Does In Fact filter sulfates and the dozen or so bottles we used our ULLO on sweet to semi-dry wines that we served at social events and smaller gatherings did not give guests or us traditionally headaches or even individual reactions to those sensitive to wine. Net is they enjoyed drinking the wine and were pleasantly surprised by the ULLO process and how it transformed the wine. Transform the wine? How So?: By reducing or eliminating the sulfates a majority of people have sensitivity to AND also improving for the majority of the wines the taste. Wines BEST SUITED for ULLO: Sweet, Semi-Sweet, White and Very Young Reds. All improved with filtering via ULLO Wines NOT SUITED for ULLO: Any Mature Reds, Vintage Port, and any sparking effervescent wines. ULLO does not help here IMO on the taste and very little sulfates are traditionally even present. On the Sparking wines the ULLO will completely neutralize the effervescence and leave a flat taste. USE of ULLO: Easy instructions if you pay attention to the simple directions. Option to Aerate or Non Aerate by rotating the plastic bezel on the ULLO. I would aerate the young red and sweet wines and seemed to improve the overall taste. CLEANING very simple by taking apart the base and removing the filter and quick wash and rinse and your good to go SOME THINGS WE LEARNED AFTER MULTIPLE USES OF ULLO: You have to make sure that you are careful opening the ULLO filters as they are delicate and tearing the package open can catch a edged of the filter ripping it and making it useless. Just gently shake the filter in the package and then open and you will not have this issue. Place the filter with the canted bottom in the filter and make sure it seats well. Then attach the base and you are good to go. Using the ULLO you can place it over your glass or even over a decanter. Be advised as other reviewers noted it does take 3 to 5 minutes to filter the wine so a slower process. The Filters: Yes Expensive, Yes only recommended 1 Filter for 1 Bottle or 750ML. Yes adds $3.00 to a bottle of wine as other users feedback on the overall filter cost. However at lease in our experience we were able to rinse the filter (cool water gently rinsing) and were able to use it on another bottle of wine with no after effects. This is not recommended by ULLO but we did have success in stretching the life of the filter. You will have varied opinions on how ULLO alters the taste of the wines. It does change the taste in our opinion but it is a taste improvement. That is why it should not be used for the higher cost, aged reds, ports etc. Those are best enjoyed after you decant or aerate to appreciate the wine flavor. Overall Verdict: You be the judge. If you are heavily into your wine, frequently consume or socially entertain with the higher sulfate traditionally lower cost sweet, semi or young red wines and are sensitive to sulfates and their impact then this is a good solution. Realizing the cost upfront and frequency of use will be you largest decision and knowing ULLO is not for ALL wines. Also, you can purchase the filters directly on Amazon or I have seen them stocked at Best Buy. Frankly I have not seen anything that can minimize or vastly reduce sulfates like ULLO does and many people that had to refrain from enjoying wine can now do so with this product.

Costly Replacement Filters Above My Budget
The replacement filters became very expensive for my budgetโan ongoing cost that ultimately led me to stop using the purifier not long after the initial purchase. Because I didnโt use the product for very long, I canโt really comment on its overall quality or effectiveness.

Must Have
Itโs the only way I drink red wine. It helps with flushing and produces the hangover effect.

It really works
I bought this a long time ago but hadn't used it until recently. I can say that it really does work. I ended up using it for a few glasses of red wine which would normally give me a really bad head ache and hangover the next morning however with this I woke up the next day and had no hangover or head ache what so ever. Try it out it really works.

For anyone who drinks wine and is sensitive to sulphites BUY THIS PRODUCT
I am extremely sensitive to sulphites in anything whether it be wine or food. When I saw this item on Good Morning America I darn near died. My problem forced me to give up wine altogether so I had nothing to lose by trying it. It was amazing! My wine tasted better and I had no after effects from the additive. I have recommended Ullo to several people who have the same problem as myself. It is great.

Needs Improvement, But Does The Job
Overall, my girlfriend loves this thing. She used to only be able to have 1 glass of wine before she felt a headache coming on, but now she can enjoy as much as she wants. The only issue is that the pieces don't fit together 100% so when she has it set to "Air," wine leaks out the edges. It takes a long time to pour, but overall she says it's worth the mess and the time to avoid the headache.
