I LOVE that this radio has a plethora of channels available for useage. I also like that this radio can switch between many models. I can use the radio to operate the RC excavator, then select the RC dump truck to haul away the load. I can operate many models from this one remote! This radio I CAN'T recommend for beginners. It's somewhat difficult to program & set up! Once the initial programming has been completed, this is an AWESOME radio!

No issues setting it up, everything works. Use OpenTX tools for update and use them to back it up before update. Charges via USB, mine has a 2S lipo. Please mind the voltage requirements. Note this is for ACCESS protocol receivers only. However with a module (fit in back) you can run older protocols, it seems there is an external module available for anything, even toy RC's. These modules usually cost 40 to 50 dollars. I strongly recommend buying the STK tool to run firmware updates on your RX (some can update from ACCST to ACCESS), or stability RX setup, or even just an an easy power source for binding, testing etc. The instructions are great for the STK, read them carefully though. Great product, and yes there is a learning curve, but the one I bought here ultimately works fantastic.

I bought this back when it came out and at that time was about $120. I have been using Spektrum for years and tired of paying $400-$600 for a TX. I was new to FrSky and OpenTX, and was over whelmed with everything that had to be done. The SW updates doesn't bother me at all its understandable why it needs to be done. The versatility of OpenTX makes the options you have almost unlimited once you figure how to configure them. I have 3 planes set up for the Taranis X9D plus 2019 and I love it. I have 2 electrics and one glow. WHAT I do NOT like which can be fixed with another SW update once its out is I had a plane set up with a S8R receiver and installed a SR8 PRO receiver in another but had to update the SW in the TX module for it bind and once I did this I could not communicate or even bind to the S8R receiver. BUT this is a set back but I will update this plane to a SR8 Pro. I just wish they would leave the prices of the receivers low. I originally bought the SR8 Pro at $28 now they are $40. If the price keep going up I may have to switch back to Spektrum. I've been flying fixed wing for about 30 years and this was a major change for me but glad I did it. I would NOT recommend this for beginners learning to fly as it may discourage them with trying to set up the TX.

Not for newbies, alot of functionality, takes time to get used to all the features, but it works well

Not a beginner radio. Beware this unit will not support D8 receivers. All of your old models will not work. I had to return mine without even opening. It's very confusing and not clear when you buy it to figure out that unit will no longer support existing protocol. Unit will not have battery and also antennas on those units based on the pictures are not replaceable.
