Starrett quality is worth it. Went to HD and bought the Empire brand, and 7 of 8 of them on the rack were dinged on the ends like the whole batch was dropped on a concrete floor. The Starrett is the same 1/8” thick, and aluminum, but does not flex like the Empire did. A+

It was packed well and arrived flat and undamaged. The 2" width and the thickness of the metal makes this pretty sturdy with less bend than I would have expected when holding it up from one end. The numbers are nice and large and all of the tick marks are easy to see (this is coming from someone whose eyesight is far, far, far from perfect!). It has enough heft that laying it on a long piece of heavy plastic that had been rolled up tightly for a long time kept the plastic from snapping back into a curl while measuring, marking and cutting. Nice length for those long cuts with an X-Acto knife! I would kind of like to have a cork back on it to help keep the ruler from slipping but considering the thickness of the ruler itself, I'm not sure I want to add any more to it. All-in-all, it's a nice hefty ruler for the price!

At the time of this writing, this product is $5.25. I use it as a straight edge to set up an industrial planer. The thickness is apps. 1/10 of an inch, so it is thin, yet sturdy. Very nice printing of numbers and measurements. As it is aluminum, I can set the outfeed fences of the planer, and rub them agains the HSS knives, without dulling or nicking the knife. In short, it was exactly what I was looking for and at a very good price, and from a quality manufacturer.

I use this for Woodworking. I seems sturdy although the Aluminum edges can get dinged. It is also very easy to read. I do wish it were 2 1/2" or 3" wide and a little thicker for double duty use as a circular saw guide. Having said that it is a very nice and easy to read straight edge and far cheaper than the equivalent Stainless Steel models. Just watch edges when using as Katana or Chiburui practice.
