Torque, response, value.
I'm using this on some old BMX bike. I replaced the singlewall front wheel with this Bad Boy. Install the wire so it's coming out the driveside. I installed this as compactly as I could, putting the "esc" under the seat, as well as the "control panel" while mounting the throttle down low on my BMX bar on the right side, so I had access to Throttle and Brake with the right hand, while the left hand is reserved for Other duty. I'm using 2x Makita 18v batteries in series to power the bike. It works well. Not a lot of watt hours for the weight, but I already own the batteries so the value / efficiency proposition is shifted in favor of Not Having To Buy More Batteries. The hub motor drives at fairly low RPM with lots of torque. With my "torture testing" I have not encoutered the battery, ESC, or motor even getting warm. I'm using a 20 amp fuse between the two series'd 5AH batteries and the ESC, and it has not blown. The whole situation seems reliable and torquue-y, but there is some lag..... If you're pedaling, and want to throttle up the motor to keep you cruising, there's always this perceivable dip as the motor's FOC or whatever programming form the ESC works to figure out what RPM to operate at, and intorduces a kinf of braking effect for just a sec. Minimal but makes for a less seamless handoff between pedal power and throttle power. Worth of note is that the included "brake levers" do NOT do anything to add or introduce or implement any kind of braking function on the motor; they simply prevent the motor from operating. So, in otherwords, the hub motor spools up to speed, and coasts back down, and there is NO electronic brake of anykind implemented that I have been able to see. Using their brake levers basically just makes it so you can't accidentally apply throttle while you're applying brake, it doesn't do anything to slow down the hub motor. I'd love to see a motor "regen brake" feature. Whether through use of the throttle, or use of the cadence sensor and brake. I did hook up the cadence sensor, and it works, but my setup does not call for it so it is left disconnected. The system works fine using only the throttle w/o the cadence sensor. The three modes limit top speed but not torque, so no matter what you'll always have the same low-speed, high torque response from the motor. For the money, can't complain. Heavy motor/wheel and cheap ESC, but it all works just fine.

Works! Top speed with no pedaling ~30kph Low powered enough that I feel comfortable using rim style brakes! I need to make some adjustments, but so far has been a blast
